Reflections essay on work done in the Criminological Field:
The present reflective report is based on the experiences and learning I want to have
while working as a intelligence analysis under the National crime agency (NCA) of UK as an
officer. I have gained an understanding about the NCA that it is a law enforcement agency at
national level and it is a leading organization for the organized crime, human weapon, and drug,
trafficking, cyber, crime and economic, crime in UK. The strategic role of the agency is to look I
to he bigger picture of the crime in UK (Ratcliffe, 2016). I have come to know that the
organization is involved in detecting the operation of the crime in the nation and formulating
plans and strategies over how they can be disrupted. The NCS always operates in close work
with regional organized crime units and the serious Fraud office along with the indicative police
forces. I have explored that the overall work force of the NCA till date is about 4194 officers and
out of which 1794 are the Sworn officers.
The organisational history is presented by me in this para about the NCA as it was
established in 2013 and is a non ministerial government department which have replaced the
older serious organized crime agency of the UK (Coomber and Moyle, 2017). It have absorbed
the older separated agency of child Exploitation and online protection centre in it and it is
responsible to enforce law in UK. About the organization in have also learned that it undertake
different functions under its ambit and it preprepared and presents a data base which is related to
injuries and unusual weapons, experts research on the serial killers and the missing reports at
national level. The NCA wa allotted an funds of 812 million pounds and the other agencies in
their first years gets lesser funding. The agency operates in all over the UK which includes,
England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Out the four jurisdiction except in Northern
Ireland the NCA have fully established its operation in all three sates.
However, this agency is still new and is not fully accepted in the Northern Ireland of UK
and it is not considered as fully functional in all parts of UK Also, there have been question on
the functioning of the agency. Moreover, it was sceptical for the agency regarding the
effectiveness of the model and idea behind establishment of the agency and about the limited
budget it has been allotted (Bryant, Arditti and Gustafson, 2019). In this regard I have an opinion
that the agency is doing very well in crime determination and reducing the ratio of crime every
year specially in the context of crime done by children.

I have always dreamt of working for the security agencies and the armed forces and for the
police as an intelligence analysis, so I can aid the country and keep the nation safe and secure by
assessing and interpreting the intelligence data. In the organisation NCA I want to work at the
position of intelligence analyst which is to protect the UK's national security and economic will
being in order to detect the and prevent organized crime such as terrorist attack, drug trafficking
and cyber crime. With getting a place of officer in NCA I want to serve the nation and protect is
form the organize crime which is big threat to the country in the present time. Under the UK
Intelligence agencies the seek the recruitment analysis from many educational and ethnic
background in order to tackle the diverse range of threats from inside and outside of the UK.
The reason of selection of this the agency is done on the basis that is also one of the
supporting institute in collection, analysis of the crime related data and present the effective
measures over controlling the crime rates in UK (Mann, 2017). The NCA is one of the newer
agency under the criminal department of UKso it present a wider scope of exploring my
capability as well as career growth in the police department of UK. Also, it have chosen this
agency as intelligence analysis a lower number of people have worked there so I can implement
my new ideas over data collection and generation of effective outcome with my academic skills
and earning and put them in practicality without much restriction and permission requirements.
For working under the NCA as an intelligence analyst I have developed the skills of good
aptitude and a naturally enquiring mind set with an excellent problem solving skills and ability to
works as a pert of a team. Also I have learned the ability of drafting skills with a putting
consistent attention to the details of the report that will be written in order to ensure the accuracy
level and mitigating the changes of any omission in the report formation. For working in the
organization I have developed certain skills and abilities for working in NCA effectiveness

continuously, a good communication skills, to have motivated drive, focus, initiation and
initiative taking ability. The basic qualification to do this work includes having a citizenship of

qualification required to be an intelligence analyst at the NCA where I can assist the organization
in preparation of the reports and data over the rate and commitment of the organized crime in
UK and preset the fact to the higher official and other agencies so that effective plans can be

made and significant action can be taken to reduce the crime rates and make the country secure
and safe for the community and citizen.
The outcomes of the work that will be carried out at the organization that is NCB along
with learning and skill includes getting an explainer of working with NCA for a minimum of 18
moths as this is the minimum time that is-required to be served in NCA under the job of
intelligence analyst. In this time frame I can explore plenty of the other opportunities of growth
and personal development in my carriers as well developing my professional skills as well.
Also, recruiting in NCA as a fresher will be a good sign in my resume and this might open new
opportunities of growth for the future. Also with working in NCA I can learn a lot about the
crime and data and can develop the advanced skills of data analyst and working under the
processional environment the thinks that I think I might not learn or will face as a challenge
while working as an intelligence analyst in NCA is facing the people and officers, confidential
communication with the other officers (Robinson, McLean and Densley, 2019). Also, one lag I
feel I have is related with the use of the technical equipments with latest and advanced
technologies (Sergi, 2017). This can lead to back-throw me in the performance as this is one of
the key requirement for working in the position of intelligence analyst. However, one think that I
can not while under the NCA as an intelligence analyst is dealing with the crime and the planing
and processing related with mitigation of the crimes as this is not the part of my job profile still I
have keen interest in learning same. But while working under NCS I might not get a chance do
so due the presenting effective outcomes of the data and analyses which might not provide me
enough time to explore this filed of my interest.
The significance of the work placement carried out and its contribution to NCB,
community includes the contribution that will be made by me working by working in the NCP as
intelligence analyst under my profession. By working as the intelligence analyst in NCB I can
develop the working environment and contribute in effective intergeneration of the words and
the team and conduct in my professional duties effectively. Importance of this professional job is
very importance for me and I this regard my academic work have been of immense help and with
this I learned that the academic are of importance assistance for the students and I understood
the lag which I can face in my professional carriers and the speed, depth and range of changes in
information and communications technologies means that you'll be required to constantly adapt
your working methods to meet new opportunities and threats.

The importance of this carriers and professional job for me can be stated that the nature
of intelligence and security work means that it's possible you could remain in a role for many
years. However, you'll be strongly encouraged to move jobs in order to maintain intellectual
stimulation, take on new challenges and gain experience across a number of areas. This could
mean moving within, or between, teams in order to focus on different areas, such as a new
geographical region or specific analytical techniques.
The development and improvement hast can be seen with attending the attending internal
and external courses, ranging from report writing, language learning, legislation and staff review
and development to database querying techniques, internet exploitation and digital
communications developments, attending briefings, presentations and conferences. Further I can
undertake the fallowing for my development and improvement regarding personal skills and
educational qualification which includes, shadowing colleagues, secondments within individual
agencies and between agencies, visits to, and briefings from, partner organisations at home and
abroad, e-learning training software, sponsorship to study for professional and academic
qualifications accredited by professional bodies.
I have learned that there are so many activities which has been supported for developing the
practical skills and also helps the shape the students for understanding the scientific phenomena
and concepts. It plays an important role for the training of the assessment centres, experience of
volunteer team and also practices of the interview in NCA. It is an easy way to understand and
developing the at the time of placement. Out of so many techniques There are so many qualities
requires by NCA because it is not easy to get admission in NCA where I have to improve my
communication skills at the time of getting chance for writing E-mails and communicating to
someone, integrity, physically and mentally fit for performing well in all the test and future
(Schreuders and et.al., 2018). Mental agility is also important which has been improved by the
proper concentration, focused and always active and having presence of mind for solving the
problems and situation.
I have to improve the knowledge and ability for clearing the aptitude test and pass in the
examination. There are so many skills which has been improved by me for the placement such as
I have to learn to improve the communication skills for properly communicating with others,

personnel skills such as knowledge, attitude, thought process for thinking out of box, solving
problems, ability to learn, adaptability and so on. also learn about how to work in a team and
collaborate with others that is very effective for future for working in NCA (Sergi, 2015). It
needs physical fitness which is most important because it is very helpful for future. For going in
the NCA academic skills and knowledge is also necessary for clarifying the round of interview.
There are lots of questions has been asked by the board of directors and committee members of
the NCA.
For the interview it takes lots of practices and also proper & lots of knowledge about the
NCA And for that it takes proper and effective communication skills for answering the questions
in front of the interviewer. Interview is not enough it also needs effective CV which discover the
hidden capability in front of them. CV is most effective way of selecting the capable candidate
and for improving practical skill's assessment centres is a best of way to reveal the potential
performer where candidates have to perform various test for simulate the aspects of the
descriptions and also the work environment and also it allows for demonstrating the skills for
matching the skills (Atkinson, 2018). There are so many skills which is compulsory for taking
the placement in the NCA that candidate has to communicate their things and ideas properly for
make them understand the things. Candidate has the ability to stand in public for speaking and
easily influence others which is very effective for attracting others and the skills which I have
been improved is I learned the ability to interpreting and also relay the informations from all and
also analyse the situation and information q which has been presented and also recommend the
solutions properly.
With this I can conclude the essay stating that I have gained tremendous knowledge over
the national crime agency as this was formed in 2013 over controlling and handling the
organized crimes on UK with including the child protection and cuber crime agencies in it. I
have learned that what skills and qualification I will require and what I posses in currently
which let me identify the lad in menu qualifications and the skill I possess. With this I learned
that what are the scope of learning which I can explore right now before getting not the
profession Apart from this I understood that during the module work what I have learned and this
was most relevant to my future carriers option and with identification of the skills requirement
for Woking intelligence analyst I identified the scope of personal and skill development. With
this determination I have scope of developing my skills and qualification that will be helpful in

the future to me and this can assist me in masking my carriers growth effectively and I can attain
me carriers goals I efficiently in shorter time (Sergi, 2016). I have understood that the for
working as an intelligent analyse I have to gain a deeper understanding over the working and
professional conduct in NCA which is the demand of the job and profession. To conclude the
essay I can state that I have learned about the NCA the academia educational and the
professional requirement I need, about what is already possess and what are the improvement I
need which all I have explained in the above part of the essay.
