INTERCONNECTIVITY OF KENYA, INDIA AND VANCOUVER1
The countries India, Africa and Canada are all in different continents. India is in the
continent of Asia, Kenya is in the continent of Africa and Vancouver is in the continent of North
America. They do not seem to have any much similarity when looked from above but if studied
in in-depth these countries are more connected than can be imagined. The interconnectivity of
these three countries will be studied in this essay.
Kenya and India are maritime neighbors. The visits between Kenya and India have
increased in the past few years because of the trade relations that exists between both the
countries. There are a lot of Indians reside in the eastern part of Africa (Campbell, 2013).
Ancient Greek authors had written about the presence of the Indians in Africa. There are
evidences of a trade relation existing between the Swahili coast and the India. India and Kenya
both share a common legacy when it comes to colonial rules. India established its first office of
the Commissioner for British East Africa residents in Nairobi in the year 1948. There is a
bilateral trade relation that exists between India and Kenya. An India-Kenya trade agreement was
signed by both the countries in the year 1981; under that contract both countries stated each other
as their most favorable trade partner (Henry et al., 2013). The major Indian export to Kenya
includes petroleum products, steel products, pharmaceuticals, yarn, machinery, yam, power
transmission equipment and vehicles. According to the official report by the Kenya Investment
Authority, the second largest investor in Kenya is India (Hye, M. A., & Lau, 2015). The money
invested by the Indians in Kenya has created a lot of jobs for the Kenyans. The pharmaceuticals
companies of India have a major presence in Kenya. A Joint Business Council was set up by the
Federation of the Indian Chambers in the year. This is how the countries of India and Kenya are
