Intercultural Business Communication 2
Introduction
Intercultural Communication (ICC) is necessary to make a balance between
people of the same organization with different cultures. Most of the international
organization faces intercultural business communication issues in their working
process. It is a critical challenge in front of organizations. It can create serious
issues between employees. Therefore, it should be managed in a proper time. In
addition, the company should take initiative about the employees and their
intercultural business communication issues (Varner, 2000). Moreover, the company
faces other challenges because of the intercultural communication issue on their
premises. In this case, employees create a wrong communication in a bad manner
that is not good for their reputation and it will affect the image of the company as
well. According to Hofstede (2002), cultural relation can be managed using different
guidelines and ethics of business. It can be depended on various conditions, such as
economic, social and political background.
This report discusses the case of intercultural communication. It has
happened between the manager’s communications. This report first identifies the
misunderstandings, and then discusses the participants’ behaviors and following
this it considers strategies to improve business communication and intercultural
communication.
Misunderstanding between participants
According to Holliday (2010), ICC is necessary to reduce communication
issues that are rising because of misunderstanding and individualism. The
misunderstanding has been created between the Anders and Chinese manager.
Anders has worked as a Swedish regional manager in the company. He was
disturbed because guidelines are not followed by the subsidiary in Vietnam. He was
very disappointed with the subsidiary because they are not following the guidelines
of the company about the suppliers. It is a company policy for purchasing no more
than 30 % of any particular item could be supplied by a single supplier.

However, the Chinese manager has replied that he only use vendors, which
he related. That was against the guidelines of the company. The Chinese manager
has provided details about the vendors that are of Chinese origin. He said that those
vendors are much more loyal and reliable. He cannot believe in the unknown
vendor. It is a huge misunderstanding between the regional manager and the
Chinese manager of the company.
Discussion about the behavior of participants
In the given scenario, Anders behaves in a proper way for their business. He
sends many notes to the subsidiary Chinese manager for following the guidelines of
the company for suppliers. He has the responsibility to manage the entire subsidiary
and manage its functions using guidelines provided by the company in various
situations. It is necessary to follow all the rule and regulations of the company to
avoid conflicts between colleagues or seniors persons.
The way of asking of Anders is good, as, after several reminders, the Chinese
manager not sending proper changes in the list of vendors. The range of suppliers is
limited and most of them from the Chinese background. Therefore, Anders raised
that problem with Chinese manager of the subsidiary. It was against company
guidelines. He had proper manners of business communication with their junior. He
calmly explained that practice, which was not properly based on the guidelines of
the company. The company must know about the roles and responsibility of each
employee on their premises.
It is necessary to follow all the rule and regulations in the company and it
applies to each employee of the company. Effective business communication is
necessary to avoid many things, which creates conflicts between employees. The
regional manager has performed his duty for the company and Chinese manager
provide better supplier to the company. Effective communication is necessary to
avoid conflict (Bolander, 2019). As some cultural issues in the selection of supplier,
it may affect the guidelines of the company. Business communication makes
bonding between intercultural people in the company. It is not a big issue to solve
intercultural challenges. Intercultural employees can take different advantages of
these things in their professional work (Carbaugh, 2016).
