INTERCULTURAL COMUNICATION
Intercultural communication is a term which is often used for describing wide range of the
communication issues which arise in the organisation consisting of different individuals from
variety of culture, religion, ethnic, social and educational backgrounds. The individuals bring
unique experiences as well as values to company. Businesses who are able to have effective
communication between member of different cultural groups are seen as better equipped to
success. Failure of resolving and addressing the cultural conflicts and the tensions affects the
performance and results in decreased productivity (Bin-Tahir, Bugis and Tasiana, 2017).
Intercultural communication is essential in the organisation with diverse culture.
Language
It is considered as cornerstone of the intercultural communication. The differences in the
cultures are reflected in number of ways. A cultural norm could have different perception
regarding time and other culture could different idea regarding personal space and body language
in the conversation. It is considered by many of the researchers, owners and employees that
language is an important element in the effective intercultural communication. Language issues
are also becoming source of conflicts and inefficiency in increasing the diverse workforce
around the world.
Diversity Community Policies
As companies are becoming multinational they are encouraging programs to celebrate
diversity and for encouraging communication among the groups and individuals from different
cultures and backgrounds (Özdemir, 2017). Companies who institute the diversity programs
without knowing and understanding cultural assumptions on which the programs are based face
difficulties in enacting diversity policies.
