2INTERCULTURAL EFFECTIVENESS DEVELOPMENT PLAN Section 1: Introduction Effectiveness in terms of intercultural communication is a unique ability of an individual that helps the person to establish communication in a diverse multi-cultural environment in the workplace. This report would help me to build a personal development plan as well as an action plan in order to improve my effectiveness towards intercultural communication in coming future. SinceIhavejoinedtheuniversity,Ihavebeenfacingcultureshockintermsof communicating as well as interacting with my fellow mates, studying with me. This type of culture shock aroused since I have been undergoing various psychological disorientation that I have been experiencing in several degrees as I entered into the new environment in my university. When I came here to study, I was not quite aware of the culture of the people who had been studying in the university for long time and I was also shocked due to ethnocentric attitude of people, as they believe like that their culture is superior enough in terms of ethnicity and they disregard the entry of people who have different cultural background. Section 2: Reflection and Interpretation Review of weakness I have realized that the basic intention of mine is to investigate into the improvement of performance of mine in terms of effective communication and gather trust, respect and love from my fellow members. However, due to lack of adequate knowledge on various cultures as well as customs,I often face difficulty in speaking to other people from other cultures since I do not have good hold over native languages in which they speak. I want to become a good advisor in my class to my fellow mates, therefore I lack the confidence to speak to them in an open platform.
3INTERCULTURAL EFFECTIVENESS DEVELOPMENT PLAN The primary elements of establishing importance of mine among the pupils actually relies on face to face interaction and constant communication through virtual medium(Adler, Doktor and Redding, 1986). In this aspect I have often experienced that female classmates often withdraw themselves from talking to male members and the males try to dominate over the decisions of female members, as a result they feel neglected and there had been a decrease in frequency of their participation towards decision making processes(Zinn and Dill, 2016). I feel that I have weakness towards convincing them that they equal fundamental rights irrespective of their gender and foster within them the spirits of working with understanding among each other. In-depth analysis on different reasons associated with weakness This is because I have not been able to adjust myself in a culture that is mostly associated with the theory on collectivism. Collectivism is usually manifested in the society where people learn to get integrated into cohesive form of groups since their childhood and there they know ways to adjust themselves without having a doubt on loyalty that exist among themselves(Harris, Moran and Andrews, 1991). I would like to use certain measures in order to determine various weaknesses towards intercultural communication for example cultural maps, preference on time as well as certain orientations on culture. From the communication model of Alder, I have come to know that misinterpretation as well as misperception of cultures as well as languages have a great impact on the receiver on how he is able to decode the message he receives from the sender. According to the theories on Bipolar Categorization, it is actually very difficult to predict behaviours associated with people and these are actually having an effect on the dimensions of the organization (Adler, 1981). I find that it is necessary part of mine, to adopt certain

4INTERCULTURAL EFFECTIVENESS DEVELOPMENT PLAN changes in my behaviour towards the social culture so that people recognize me as a part of their family and have a respect on my integrity. I would like to take into account the biculturalism as well as various methods on identity integration that would help me to evolve myself. Usually bicultural are exposed to two differentculturesandtheypossessgreatersenseofcreativityaswellascognitive complexities,my goal is to motivate myself so that I can perceivetrue essence through the mainstream and maintain identities associated with ethnic culture that would be compatible as well as integral, this helps in Bicultural Identity Integration (BII). Section 3: Development of an Action Plan An action plan helps to overcome various weaknesses and would also help to improvemy effectiveness in terms of inter-cultural communication at the college as well as workplace in future. The main mission behind my goal is to achieve effectiveness in terms of cross- culture communication so that I can adjust myself in the new surroundings and the environment in my university. The factors that mostly lie underneath my minds while communicating with people who belong to another cultureare actually the thingsthat mostly lie invisible and never come to the surface. This debars me to continue easy communication with my friends like their values, way of thinking against the other culture, subjective knowledge as well as implicit learning(Gelfand, Erez and Aycan, 2007). Various cultural orientations actually make me as a person to be more compatible in any type of business environment. Theories of Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck in the year 1961 as it has been mentioned in the lessons, certain factors actually have a great deal of impact on relationship with people that is individualism otherwise collectivism(Tarhini, Hone and Liu,
5INTERCULTURAL EFFECTIVENESS DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2014). According to him development of three factors in the pyramid like Personality, Culture as well as Human Nature would help me as a person to become compatible to any surroundings in the societal level. Conclusion Therefore from the above discussion, based on the action plan proper methods need to be adopted so that I can form good bonding with my teachers and friends and adapt to the new environment or atmosphere in the college. So I must undertake responsive actions and adopt necessary changes within myself so that I can establish a unique place for myself in the university. The journey would be tough however with proper support and guidance from the formulated action plan would help me to turn myself into a complete new individual.
