Good (Morning/Afternoon/Evening) everyone! Today I would like to take the
opportunity to share my views on the problems or difficulties that the international students in
the various foreign educational students. I personally believe that the landscape of the
contemporary educational system has changed in a substantial manner within the last few
decades. For example, since the traditional times, education has been seen as a machinery
which offers the right kind of tools to the individuals that they can utilize in the latter part of
their lives to cope up with the professional world. Furthermore, with the globalization of
education the focus or emphasis of the students and their parents is on international education
since it allegedly offers the best quality of education. However, there are various kinds of
problems like cultural, religious, language, educational and other kinds of problems that the
international students face.
I personally believe that the internationalization of education has opened new
windows of opportunities for the students and they are having access to the quality of
education that the earlier generations rarely had access to. More importantly, it is seen that
the focus of the students is on getting admitted to one of the Ivy League educational
regardless of the fact whether they have the right kind of qualification and skills or not. In
this regard, I believe that one of the major problems that the international students is the
language barrier. It is pertinent to note that in the majority of the First World nations English
is the official language of instruction. However, it is seen that the majority of the
international students are from the nations where English is rarely spoken. Thus, the students
despite having the right of skills or qualifications often fail to perform in an effective manner
because of their failure to understand the lessons which are being taught to them in English.
The educational system which is being followed in the various First World nations is
a collaborative one and thus the students are often required to collaborate with each other for
the purpose of education. However, this problem of language barrier hinders the students to

understand the things that their classmates are trying to say and thereby also inhibits to form
effective bonds with them. The net result of this is the fact that the students often feel lonely
and homesick because of their inability to connect and form friendship with the native
people.
Cultural difference is another problem that the international students face in the
foreign nations. For example, it is generally seen that the cultural traditions and beliefs of the
international students are drastically different from the ones which are being followed in the
nation to which they are going for their education. The net result of this is the fact that these
students often find it very difficult to integrate themselves within the cultural tradition
followed by the people of the nation to which they have gone for education. This often gives
rise to diasporic feelings and they start to compare that the practices as well as the actions on
the basis of the ones that they have experienced in their own motherland. In the majority of
cases, the students often come to hate or distance themselves from the people of the mainland
and try to form friendship with people with cultural affinities similar to them.
The educational structure which is being followed in the foreign educational
institutions is different from the ones that are followed in the native land of the student. For
example, in the majority of the First World nations, regular assessments are undertaken in
which the students are required to submit various kinds of assignments. However, the
international students are not used to this and thus they find it very difficult to follow them in
an effective manner. In addition to this, majority of the foreign educational institutions use
online student portals wherein the students can find all the important information regarding
the course that they are undertaking. However, this is not been followed in the third world
nations and thus the international students from these nations often find it very difficult to use
these online portals. Furthermore, another major problem that the international students face
in the foreign nations related to the financial aspect. For example, it is a commonly known

fact that foreign education requires a substantial amount of capital and thus the international
students even after getting admitted to these educational institutions find it very difficult to
meet the basic expenses.
To conclude, the machinery of international educational offers various kinds of
benefits to the students however there are various problems associated with the pursuit of the
same. Some of the most common problems that the international students face are related to
the aspects of language, culture, finance, educational system followed in these foreign
educational institutions, religion and others. Thus, it can be said that the experience of an
international student depends on the manner in which the student is able to deal with these
problems.
