The internet is creating a generation of anti-social youth
Internet addiction is so common in our youth generation in the modern digital life of people
and it is quite prevalent in secondary and universities students. The increasing use of Internet
not only affects the health of our youth generation rather it forces them some anti-social
activities like cyber-bullying, pornography, and other anti-social activities like theft, hacking,
blackmailing, and sexually harass people through online and social media accounts. Many
researchers have found in their research that there is a positive and direct relationship
between internet uses and social behaviour of the person. The moral behaviour of youths and
implications of antisocial internet behaviour will be investigated in the present work.
Behaviour related to the internet uses is almost similar to the social behaviour of our daily
life. There are many illegal and anti-social activities performed by youth generation with the
help of the internet which is a major concern. Some of the concerns may minor effect on our
society while some of their activities badly affect the society.
One of the major issues that is found that large number of young students are involved in
cyber bullying where they blackmail and harass people via social networking sites.
Cybercrime and hacking people's account with the help of the internet is a major concern
where large numbers of young students are involved in cyber theft. Cohen-Almagor (2018)
said in his article that our young generation is using so much time on the internet and social
networking sites. Social networking sites are the key links of connecting people and establish
a relationship. However, with these channels our young generation involved in many
cybercrimes and frauds with people. Social media provide a platform to establish a fraud
relationship with other people and bullying other people on same social network site. Shin
and Lwin (2017) stated in their article that the scope of cyberbullying is increasing every day
because of the excessive use of internet all around the world. Young people post a worst
comment or libellous comments about a certain person or community. It not only affects the
mental and psychological health of that person rather a sensitive message can also cause riots
among people in different community people who belong to different religions. However, it
shows that these young people and adolescent are not culturally developed in the society or
their moral value was not evaluated by themselves or their family members.

Brewer, Cale, Goldsmith, and Holt (2018) stated that the linkage of internet and social media
sites create many anti-social activities. In most of the cases, the role of a young person was
questionable. In modern days, almost all young people have their own mobile phones, which
are connected with internet and social media. The addiction of internet leads to the
pornography and posting sexual contents on Internet. There are many young people who are
posting adult contents or videos to other people, which spread vulnerability in society. These
pornographic activities not only affect the health of user rather it also affects the health of
those children and kids who are connected with various social networking sites. It has been
observed that young people are generally involved in sending offensive pornographic
materials on different social media sites and other websites. It is one of the major concerns of
internet use. Pornography is a serious problem because of excessive internet use or addiction
of Internet (Dyer 2018). Young people download porn videos and watching it on their
devices that further affects their both physical and mental health.
Many young generation students who are studying in the college and universities trap people
on the internet and ask them for their bank details for hacking their accounts or selling them
fraud products. People are hacking the account of other people on the internet. People who
have no idea about these things can easily be trapped with these people and they lost money
for those products, which does not even exist on the Internet. In such scenario, people with
anti-social behaviour target the people with unethical and immoral activities like posting
sexual contents, writing blogs that spread rumours among people, posting fake news and fake
messages to people, etc. Social media is providing a platform for such type of anti-social
people who posts anything on these channels without caring about the impacts of their post
and activities. One of the major reasons behind these activities is a lack of social behaviour or
immaturity of young people. However, addiction to the internet is also a major cause that
forces young people to use irrelevant things such as porn videos, hacking people, or
cyberbullying (Montez de Oca, Meyer, & Scholes 2016).
The anti-social behaviour of youngsters also affects their daily life and their social behaviour.
It determines how people behave in society and act. There are many anti-social behaviours of
young people are related to their internet uses (Ebenezer, Ibukunoluwa & Oluwadamilola,
2016). People who are surfing the internet in the late night may not attend their classes on
time; people who are addicted to pornography were found to be guilty in rape cases or
involved in socially undesirable sexual activities etc. The excessive use of the internet may

motivate young people and student for cheating in exams. In some cases, it has been seen that
students are involved in alcohol and tobacco consumptions. Apart from these activities,
illegal downloading of files, sensitive documents, films, or any video clips without
permission is also included in those anti-social activities. It has been seen that a large number
of people and youngsters are using different sites for downloading contents. Among these
young people, a large number of adolescents are involved in downloading sensitive
information or videos from the internet. Online Gambling is also a major concern for internet
users where people invest the money on different sites.
In conclusion, the excessive use of the internet or pathological use leads to various anti-social
behaviour and activities in the young generation. Pornography, cyber-bullying, blackmailing
people, and posting sensitive information or content are some of them on social media.
Cyber-bullying and pornography is the serious concern in this modern WWW era. Trapping
people for sexual relationship is the worst example of anti-social activities of our young
generation on internet. These activities not only affect their mental health rather the social life
of these people is also affected and leading to real-life anti-social behaviour. The anti-social
activities of these people not only affect their own lives rather it affects the health and mental
stability of other people in society. However, one of the main causes that leads to these bad
behaviours and anti-social activities is the moral and cultural development of children. The
role of parents is so important in reducing these unhealthy and unsocial behaviour of young
generation.
