Background of research
Bullying is the one of the offensive activity that is observed in most of nations of entire
Europe. In the UK also it is one of the common problem and it is observed that bullying is
common in schools and colleges of the UK. There are number of ways in which bullying related
activities are implemented by people (Vanderbilt and Augustyn, 2010). Sometimes people speak
abusing words to someone and try to hurt that person self-respect. On other hand, in case of
bullying sometimes by showing some symbols harassment of individuals is done. All these
things cannot be permitted in any society. Annual bullying survey that was conducted in 2016
revealed lots of facts about bullying in the UK. Facts revealed that 1.5 million young people or
50% have been bullied in last one year. Out of these million people 19% were bullied on daily
basis. On this basis it can be said that bulling is the activity that is taken place on large scale in
the UK. Interesting fact is that if comparison is made in respect to male and female in terms of
bullying percentage then in that case it can be observed that 66% of males and 31% of females
are bullied out of total number of people mentioned above. In researches carried out it is
observed that everyone have its own definition in respect to bully (Tippett,Wolke and Platt,
2013). 12% respondents in research state that they bully people on daily basis and 14% state that
they sometimes bully individuals. Fact also revealed that 20% individuals physically attacked
somebody as part of bullying activity to make someone fearsome. Depression is the common
thing that is faced by the people suffered from bullying activity (Annual bullying survey 2016
bullying statistics in the UK, 2016). There were 41% respondents that observed social anxiety
due to bulling activities. It can be said that bullying is the one of the term that mentally affect
large number of people. If bullying activity going on consistently then in that case one can go in
depression and can be suffered from any mental disease (Weston, 2010). It can be said that it is
very important to ensure that such kind of activities are prevented from taking place in schools
and collages so that students does not face any problem and mentally remain healthy. If
individuals will not face such kind of mental problems then they will be able to focus on their
study in proper manner and will be able to perform better at workplace. Sometimes individuals
that suffered from bullying activities decide to commit suicide (Einarsen, Hoel, Zapf and Cooper,
2011). Research that was conducted reflect that 33% respondents that are bullied have suicide
related thoughts. Hence, it can be said that bullying is also one of the factor due to which
individuals commit suicide at workplace. It is very important to take steps to control bullying

related activity and in this regard there must be strict provision to take action against culprit
people so that students can be protected from bullying related activities in proper manner.
Over the past few years it is observed that bullying activity increased consistently at rapid
pace and student’s non serious behavior is one of the main reason behind such kind of
conditions. There are number of ways like physical, social, verbal and cyber bullying that is
commonly observed among the people. Verbal and cyberbully is increasing consistently in the
UK as in former one individual speak wrong words and sentences to other person and by doing
so harass others. On other hand, in case of cyberbully through Facebook posts and what's app
attempt is made to threaten front person. Through cyberbully individuals comes in depression at
very fast rate (Zapf and et.al., 2011). This is because usually youngsters are habitual to use social
media like Facebook on daily basis and for many hours. Hence, those wants to create mental
pressure on them usually make messages that contain threat. Such kind of activities have direct
impact on individual person life and even individual that is not present in front of other person
easily harass individual through social media. Thus, social media is used as primary tools to
harass someone. In UK annual bullying survey it is identified that 54% of respondents believed
that at some point of their life they were bullied by someone. It can be said that out of
respondents every single respondent was bullied even single time in its life. Relevant survey is
indicating that 37% of victims observed social anxiety and 36% observed depression due to
bullying activity. ¼ of total victims have suicidal thoughts in their mind. Thus, it can be said that
condition is not good as revealed by the facts. 17% of young people observed cyber bullying
(Weston, 2010). Facebook is one of the major tool that is used for bullying purpose. Apart from
this, Instagram, Twitter and Snap chat are the other common tools that are also used by
individuals to harass someone to great extent. It can be said that this is the time to control
bullying at workplace and to increase awareness among youngsters that such kind of activities
have negative impact on individuals and sometime they prepare to commit suicide. Hence, there
is need to take some strong action for benefit of people.
