Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification
To provide the desired patient and systems outcomes in health care organizations,
interdisciplinary collaboration should be effectively used (Mattison, et al., 2017). The main aim
of interdisciplinary collaboration is to promote frequent, structured and documented
communication among staff. To deliver quality patient care and improve patient outcomes within
the health care organization that I interviewed, all nurses must work as a team together with all
other staff members in the organization. This means that they should be ready to work together
as a team, understand each staff’s education, and areas of their competence. Being aware of the
professional roles and obligations, communicating effectively with other nurses as well as
building connections to plan and actualize safe consideration results into desired patient and
systems outcomes.
The health care institution that I interviewed is based in St. Paul, Minnesota which is a
non- profit and Christian-based organization. The organization provides an expansive cluster of
great lodging decisions, care and administration choices for grown-ups. The organization has
6400 workers who serve 27,000 older adults via affiliated senior living communities in
communities in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa, and through Optage home and community
services.
According to the interview from the clinical coordinator of the organization, the current
issues that are facing the organization are the increasing rate of nurse turnover. According to the
clinical coordinator, the turnover has negatively affected his effectiveness of work since he has
to cover all the shifts that are opened if a staff leaves or calls in. As a result, he cannot effectively
finish his work at the required time.

The main issue of why nurses leave the job is because of the workload that they face in
the organization. According to the clinical coordinator, the nurse to client’s ratio is too high as in
a shift one nurse is required to serve 30 residents where 22 are in long term care and 8 are in the
transitional care unit. Besides providing all nursing care, a nurse does the admission, provides
medication as well as follow up activities such as visiting the family to provide guidance and
counseling. A high turnover of nurses may also mean that nurses might be suffering from poor
communication within the management, they don’t receive enough recognition and rewards or
there are inadequate trust and collaboration between coworkers. Such issues have negatively
affected the outcome of the patient and systems outcome of the organization.
Collaboration approaches mean involving all team members from various disciplines to
work together towards the common purpose and set goals. The other idea of team members
working together is to share decisions, resources, and responsibilities together (Salas, Reyes &
McDaniel, 2018).
One of the collaborative approaches that could solve and improve the interdisciplinary
team in addressing the challenges being faced by the organization is the change in leadership. As
per the interview, the organization is being faced with poor leadership and management. This
remains one of the causes of the challenges being faced by the institution. According to (Creamer
& Austin, (2017), positive leadership and management provide clear direction and vision for the
staff via promoting an atmosphere of trust where everyone’s contribution is valued. Besides,
positive leadership and management provide clear direction and vision by ensuring that all
essential resources such as infrastructure, equipment, a mix of skills, competencies as well as
personalities are available. With such an approach, the organization can solve the issue of
