Summary
Three people are interviewed through a face-to-face interview session for networking
purpose. The main purpose of networking with these people is to build the interaction with
them due to uncertainty of the career path I have to choose after completing my graduation in
management. These people will assist me in learning more about the potential career. Making
valuable connections will them will make them assist me in providing career guidance and
the direction in which I should set my career path on.
The first person interviewed is from the reference of the family circle who is an
entrepreneur in a small electrical equipment repair company who is running the business for
past 7 years. This person has completed bachelor of business management and then pursued
master of business management. Later, he gained expertise in entrepreneurship through
training courses and digital business certificate training. The person performs the decision-
making of various tasks and provides my decisions on the meetings per week. The budget
planning as well staff allocation decisions are mainly taken by that person too. The second
person interviewed is from a professional contact made in the college seminar who is now an
advertising content writer in the advertising promotion industry for 5 months. This person
has done bachelors of commerce and masters in advertising course and worked in the
advertising promotion industry, designing and editing various ads as per the themes and
occasions by the company on certain subjects be it for product launch or product marketing.
The third person interviewed is from the college batch mate’s circle of friends who is in the
human resource department serving in a company for 3 years. This person has completed his
graduation degree in accounts and complete masters in management of business
administration and also pursued human resource development course training too. The person
is a HR manager of a company and performs recruiting as well as screening candidates and
selecting them for the company.
These 3 people are interviewed on various purposes for seeking advice on the career
guidance. As I am pursuing my education in management, the first person I interviewed is the
entrepreneur as this person can guide me in the business operations and the process of how to
set up a business. I will get an overview of the business and its functioning activities. The
second person I interviewed being the advertisement content writing is to measure the
activities performed by knowledge experts in the marketing industry, It is a purely
communication and marketing based job-profile.

Self –Reflection
Lessons learnt from the activity
This assignment made me help to reflect on the main values learned in my academic
course.
On terms of decision making, it encouraged me to expand my knowledge and develop
analytical and critical thinking to increase the decision-making effectiveness mainly in the
area of career decisions. The decision to make career choices require lot of constructed
thoughts to base the decision upon certain parameters like course structure, area of expertise
and the future of career development on entering the type of career, in future.
On terms of communication it made me learn the various types of communication
skills both in verbal and oral communication while communicating with the people I have
interviewed. The fluency in speaking as well as the type of questions relevant as per their
career chosen along with the framing of interview template to ask them the questions in the
template is a good exercise for interpersonal communication.
On terms of networking, the interaction with three types of people successful in their
career as well as the daily activities performed by them made me take the inputs of what I
prefer to do and should I do to excel in my own career. Networking with the right people
from the same background helps to get a direction in the same line of academic field with the
certain probability of success as estimated from the success of others involved in the same
line of career.
On terms of teamwork, I have learnt how the collaboration between the interviewee
and the interviewer is needed to bring a good momentum and flow in the responding process
with accuracy of data. In the teamwork, the data needed and the data given should be
consistent as well as per with the requirements. The trust and the honesty in the answers
provided by the interviewees are required, which gets established on the basis of open
communication channel and support from the interviewer’s side.
On terms of time management, I learnt how speed and respective time allocated for
each interview is needed to build a relationship with the interviewees through the networking
process. The proper time and the jotting down of answers within the time frame is crucial for
efficient flow of communication. The time necessary to make decisions in life for career and
the time to execute them is much needed for bringing discipline and moving in the right
direction of career pathway.

Positive feedback on the networking activity
This exercise about networking made me learn the art of speaking and understanding
the psychology of other people through interaction with professionals, students and
entrepreneurs as well as managers in different walks of life. The more you network in your
career, the more contacts and the advice as well as support you will get in stabilizing your
career. I enjoyed during the activity and the most interesting part of the activity was getting
varied responses and the clarity of different career choices. Although all the career options
are in the same line yet, they are little different. The networking reduced my fear of public
speaking and communication with other people. It increased my confidence on how to ask for
guidance and how to process through the whole interview session in the face-to-face form of
interview. The interview technique was an indirect type but with structured questions. The
different types of reactions also made me understand how the job I will prefer and the
activities on the job will be as compared to the present job activities they are performing.
