INTRODUCTIONIt is an important task to know how fast your internet is working. It is interesting to observe patterns, see details of how the fast the data is transferred over internet. There are certain parameters which can help us measure the internet speed. Some of them may be:PINGJitterUpload and download speedPacket lossThe above written parameters help define the internet connection speed.DETAILED ANALYSIS1. PINGPING is a short for Packet Internet Groper. PING is used to troubleshoot internet connection problems. It is used to find if a particular IP address is accessible or not. Its sends packet to the given address and waits for the response. PING is used to find how fast your internet is working. It determines the time taken by the data to reach the server and come back to the computer again.Result in Case 1: The first test shows values of PING and Jitter on different dates. These are measured to test the internet speed. As clearly depicted in graph for case 1 connection, valuesof PING are found after every certain interval of time like 4-5 days. It is observed that varies from 27 to 71 milliseconds. The average of all values comes around to 30. Mostly, the values are near 30 itself like 27, 29, 36 milliseconds etc. It is rare to have a very high value like 71 milliseconds (only on 3/20/15). The value of PING indicates internet speed. The higher the time value of PING, the more time does packet takes so the lesser is the internet speed and vice versa. There is no constant pattern in value for PING for case 1. But it is observed close to 30 milliseconds only. This means average time taken for data for round trip from computer to the server and back is around 30 milliseconds.Result in Case 2: As shown graph for case 2, the value of PING does not vary much. It is approximate to 25 milliseconds itself. It majorly takes value of 22, 23, 25 milliseconds, whichmeans that the speed of internet connection is almost constant. Only once the value reached to 58 ms (on 15/3/15) indicating a low high speed. The value of PING should be as less as possible so as to have higher internet speed.

2. JITTER:Jitter is used to determine the variation in latency of packet. It is average of the deviation from the network mean latency. The value for jitter (generally in ms) should be as less as possible indicating that there is less of latency. Result: The first test is conducted for measuring values of Jitter along with PING values. It isobserved that values of Jitter are much related to PING values. It is interesting to know that as the value of PING increases, so does the value for Jitter. This indicates that slower the dataconnection, the more is latency in network packets. In the graph, jitter varies from 5 to 59 seconds. When value of PING is 79, the jitter is 51 milliseconds. For PING value of 29 milliseconds, Jitter is around 5-6 milliseconds. Hence, we can conclude that Jitter is dependent on PING and approximately 20 milliseconds more than PING value.3. UPLOAD AND DOWNLOAD SPEED:Upload speed refers to rate at which the data is transferred from the computer to the internet. In contrary to that, the download speed defines the rate of transfer of data from internet to theuser’s computer. The upload speed is always less than the download speed. It is not as per internet connection, but is already set by cable operator.Result of Case 2: In case 2, both upload and download speed of the servers are recorded on different dates. Both upload and download speed are related to the PING values. The more thevalue of PING, the higher is upload and download speed. It is quiet interesting to observe thatAverage value of upload speed is 2.3 Mbps and value of download speed is around 21 Mbps. But the upload speed is always less than the download speed.Result of Case 3: In case 3, the download speed of servers within 300 miles is observed for past 30 days and compared with the globe world wide. The rolling speed appears to 22.9 MBps on each date when the test is connected. So, the download speed appears to be constantfor each value.

CONCLUSION:The PING did not vary much with the date. It was close to 25-30 milliseconds. This isbecause the internet connection speed did not vary much with time. Jitter is directly proportional to the PING. The more the value of PING, the more is value of Jitter. It shows same graph pattern as PING. This means network latency increase with increase in travel time of data.Upload speed is always less than download speed.Average value of upload speed is 2.3 Mbps and value of download speed is around 21Mbps.After observing the results, it can be concluded that a weekly test must be conducted in order to keep track on the internet connection speed.
