TASK 3
Evaluation of Training and Development practice and its impact on employees
Training and development is an HR practice which is performed by managers of
company to introduce new comers about the company and enhance skill set of existing
employees. Training and development are two different activities which is conducted by the
managers and are explained below with their impacts on the employees and ultimately on
McDonald's.
TRAINING
This is basic concept of HR development which is concerned with developing particular
skills to desired standards by conducting thorough practice and instructions. Training is defined
as the organized process or procedure for providing knowledge to staff for definite purpose and
attainment of better skills. Training is needed to be provided to all personnel of every
organisation irrespective of their qualifications and expertise.
DEVELOPMENT
This refers to the development of organisation and process of making efforts to increase
the capacity to achieve and sustain new and better goals that benefits the organisation and its
employees. In relation with personnel development is defined as the sessions and programs
conducted by HR individuals of company to enhance the skill set and knowledge of existing
employees in order to update their knowledge (von Rosing and Laurier, 2020).
Training and development are two unique concepts both are used to increase knowledge
of employees but training is given to both new and existing staff on the other hand development
programs are formulated for existing personnels for improving and updating their talents. In
McDonald's the employees are skilled and qualified still they face problems and unable to
perform assigned tasks effectively. To enhance their talents and improve their performances the
HR department of McDonald's will conduct and undertake various training and development
activities which are as follows:
Methods of training and development
McDonald's is an American fast food company which is operated as Restaurant having several
outlets around the globe. This represents that McDonald's have huge customers and employee
base which belongs to different geographical areas and cultures. Therefore, it is important for
9

company to introduce staff to the culture of the organisation and train them accordingly. The
training methods which are used by McDonald's are as follows:
On the job training is the most common form of training workers which is most effective
too. On the job training is basically a training method in which members are placed on specific
duties and being trained on it by making it necessary for them to perform the task according to
the instructions given. Through this process HR managers of McDonald's can guide staff about
how to conduct their activities and supervise them and correct them when required (Berentsen
and Schar, 2018). On the job training process will be effective for the company's employees as it
enables them to gain through understanding of their jobs and the ways in which they need to
perform them appropriately. This is a process which involves less cost and time helping
managers in managing finances and being more effective and efficient. This will also motivate
and encourage personnels as leaders are in close contact with them developing good relations
and building healthy working environment.
Off the job training is another effective method which is used by McDonald's HR
department and managers to train staff and develop better talents and expertise. Off the job
training means using external resources which are away from the job field for developing better
skills and expertise in employees. For example, lectures, management education and
conferences. This technique is less effective in comparison with on the job training in context of
McDonald's as it is a hospitality service provider who serve huge number of people on daily
basis.
Training and development activities are very important and essential in case of McDonald's. The
company is facing huge problems with employees as they are qualified but are not capable of
performing their tasks. Training and development activities are beneficial but also have some
drawbacks which are described below:
Advantages of training and development to employees and McDonald's
Motivates employees- One of the most effective and beneficial feature of providing
trainings to employees is these actions which are taken by the management encourages and
motivates staff to perform with their full potential. All personnels will be properly supervised
and guided by managers correcting them at each level this will make them feel important for the
company and they try and put all efforts to do their tasks appropriately driving huge profits to
entity.
10
Document Page
Job satisfaction- Once all workers are properly trained and motivated to do jobs in
effective manner and also, willing to learn new things and present innovative ideas in front of
management of working. This motivation and increasing involvement of employees in the
company will provide them job satisfaction. Employees are the key resource of every
organisation, if they are satisfied with their job it helps McDonald's to reduce their employee
turnover ratio and save finances which will be needed to recruit new people.
Disadvantage of training and development
Leave to new jobs- People are trained, gain new skills and expertise which are better and
updates for time being they practice those skills in current company and then leave to new places
for acquiring more beneficial opportunities (Akhmetshin and et. al., 2018). This is the biggest
drawback of training and development as the benefits of those activities are served by people to
some other company.
Time consuming- The actions which are being undertaken in training and development
of staff are time consuming and involves huge investments. This makes managing of budgets and
finances of company a little bit hard. Also, McDonald's is using on the job training method more
which causes delays in conducting tasks and serving to customers and affects the goodwill of the
entity. The staff take more time to complete their service as they are being supervised and
corrected at the time which makes them do the job again and again wasting lot of time and
creating delays.
McDonald's provides trainings to staff for improving their performances and giving them
orientation and brief knowledge in relation to those areas in which staff is lacking. Training and
development practices have huge impacts on the performances of personnels which are in
company and serving to customers visiting McDonald's restaurants.
