INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

INTRODUCTION
 Information technology is simply use of any software, system or computer to retrieve,
transmit, store, sending information, manipulate information or data in the
organizations or enterprise.
 This information technology can be used in business organizations in improving
customer care, manufacturing, human resource management, transportation, business
communication and in many more ways to improve their business and gain competitive
advantage.
 This presentation will focus on classification of computers, importance of internet and
transformation of business through social media.

Classification of Computers
Classification of computers can be done on the basis of size:
 Super Computer
 Mainframe Computers
 Mini Computers
 Micro computers or personal computers

Classification of computers can be done on the basis of size:
 Super Computer:
 One of the most powerful type of computers are Super Computers which are
designed for applications that require large amount of calculations like in weather
forecasting.
 These computers are very costly therefore these computers are only used by large
corporations, universities who can afford them or government.

 Mainframe Computers:
 These are very large probably the size of a room and much expensive designed to
do thousands of calculations for users simultaneously like for ticketing and making
reservations for flights, flight scheduling etc.
 These computers are used by large private organization or government
organizations.

 Mini Computers: These are mid sized computers less powerful than mainframe
computers but stronger than desktop computers.
Example: Program data processor, HP 3000 series
 Micro computers or personal computers: Most frequently used type of computer are
microcomputers. These are also known as personal computers. These type of
computers are mostly used for personal use only i.e. one person at a time. These type of
computers can be easily carried and are for personal use only.
Example: mobiles, laptops, tablets, personal digital assistant etc.

Importance of internet
In today's world internet is important for both an individual and for business in many ways.
 Importance of internet in business context:
 Internet has helped marketing department of an organization by providing organizations
different benefits, options and a platform to do marketing like only advertisement,
social media etc.
 Internet has also provided cloud storage facility to business organizations to store their
data and information.

Social media has transformed business interactions with stakeholders and customers more
easy as:
 Almost all the customers and stakeholders of any business organization are available
ons social media, so organizations can easily keep a track on their customers and
stakeholders and provide them services more easily according to their demands,
requirements and needs.
