Types of computers with one example of each.
With the coming of computers the working of the business has become very easy as the
computers helps to record the data in a simpler manner(Tkachenko, Kuzior and Kwilinski, 2019).
Many new computers have arrived in the market with different features helping the business to
reduce their cost. Different types of computers are explained below-
Minicomputers- Minicomputers are those computers that have the same features like
that of large computers but are different in some features. These computers are multi user
computer systems having connections of more than one CPU. With such facility many
individuals can work instead of using it by single person. The storage, speed of
minicomputers are however less than the large computers. These computers provide lots
of advantages to the people as they are low in price and have long battery life. Such
computers are useful for the business purpose as they have the ability to work in all
operating systems. Also the power consumption of these computers is less compared to

other computers which mean less wear and tear of the product making the product to live
for a longer time. Examples of minicomputers are the – Tablet PC etc.
Micro computer- Microcomputers are small with les storage capacity compared with
that of supercomputers and are inexpensive designed for the individuals(MingJie, 2019).
It has a microprocessor which is the CPU. Such computers include various parts which
are the input and output devices, hardware and software, operating systems which is
required to make a personal computer. These computers can be installed in any place
whether it is home or office. These computers can be used for daily recording of the
accounting transactions which the Sainsbury does. The portability of these computers is
quite easy as the computers are small in size which makes it easy to move it from one
place to another. However it carries some disadvantage as the storage capacity of these
computers are low and have the lack of security which is difficult for the business as they
have to store important information. Examples- Desktop etc.
Workstation computers- These computers are used by professionals for accomplishing
the tasks. These computers are mainly used for software development, desktop publishing
many more. This computer has the fastest micro processor have the large amount of
RAM with high speed graphic adapters (Robelet, Guimier-Pingault and Lambert, 2018).
Like other normal computers workstation usually supports the ECC (error correcting),
uses the professional grade graphics for example Quadro and Radeon Pro. Workstation
can be used by single user for business or professional use as it is a high performance
computer system. Investing in such good computers is very effective as this provides
huge productivity and have the capability to do more work than the normal computers.
For business this type of computers are good in providing the performance as this can be
used in financial analysis and for making marketing campaigns for the business. For
example- Silicon Graphics IRIX Machines (MIPS CPU) etc.
Mainframe computers- Mainframe computers compared to other computers are large in
size and are also expensive which are used by big organisation to process large data.
They have the capability to assist multiple data at the same time which means they can
carry out multiple activities at the same time without the difficulty of hanging. Such
characteristics of the computer make it perfect for the large organisations like the
supermarkets or other telecom sectors. Mainframe computers are used to centralize the
