Management is the term of art and science which is the process of planning, organizing,
controlling the activities or resources of business to achieve the goals with success. It is helps to
achieve the goals and setting of a business to make the business successful (Gephart Jr,
Helgesson, and Ganzin, 2018). It is also called as function. Management is the process of the
functions which includes planning, organizing, directing, controlling and staffing the activities. It
is an art of getting the things done through in a best and cheapest way. Management can be
defined as the process, activity, discipline, group, science, art and profession. In this report
Balfour Beatty company has been taken which is the British Multinational Infrastructure group
in United Kingdom which provides services includes construction, support, professional services
etc. This report helps to defined the background of company, it types and areas where company

1909 in United Kingdom. Balfour Beatty builds and maintain the infrastructure services in many
sectors which includes Construction, support, infrastructure investment. It is a leading company.
The company works in many countries include United Kingdom, Canada, South East Asia,
United States, and Ireland. It is the biggest construction contractor in the UK. The overall
turnover of the company was ranked in 2018 in September for biggest construction. The
headquarters in London and England. It is the private limited company in UK. Balfour Beatty
was founded by George Balfour and Andrew Beatty (Kerzner, 2019). The total revenue of
company is 8280 million in 2021. There are around 26000 numbers of employees in the

Balfour Beatty Plc is a public limited company which is the leading international
company of United Kingdom. They provide many services to develop and maintain the
economic growth with the supports of communities. Balfour Beatty operates in delivering major
multi- disciplinary projects, supply power, maintenance of services, system tracks and
components, and plant specialist etc. it is the world known company which is also operates in the
world as the leading rail infrastructure contractor. They provide finance, design and project
manage, develop and construct, operate and, maintain the assets of construction management
services (Myers, 2019).

Organizational Structure
Organizational Structure is the term of management system which helps to outlines the
activities and determine that how its direct in relation to achieve the organizational goals with
success. The organization activities may be including rules, role and responsibilities. It is helps
to determine the information of levels within the organization. Organizational structure is
playing a vital role in any company which defines the company structure. It is the method of
organization function which helps to know about the work flow of the company. there are many
types of organizational structure but for Balfour Beatty there are main two structure which helps
to defined the structure of the company which are given below-
Tall Structure: It is the term of organizational structure which is defined as the long scale
management because there are many numbers of leaders and it has unlimited levels of hierarchy.
There are many levels of management (Negm, Zeleňáková, and Minea, 2020).
 Advantage: It is clearly defined the roles and responsibilities.
 Disadvantage: There is longer lines of communication because of there is many leaders.
Flat Structure: It is refers to the small scale of management which is the term of
organizational structure. In this structure there is limited number of leaders and there is limited
number of hierarchy levels. There is lack number of management levels.
 Advantage: there is better communication
 Disadvantage: there is lack number of opportunities.

In relation to Balfour Beatty, they use tall structure of organization because company has
the big organization structure and there are many leaders in the company. they use this structure
for obtain the many levels of hierarchy management (Posth, 2019).
Understanding of the role of marketing in business
Marketing mix refers to the putting the product in the right place, at right place and right
time. It can be analysis by the 4Ps of marketing mix which defined the product, place,
promotion, and price. In relation to Balfour Beatty, they can use this marketing mix strategy to
develop and acknowledge about their product and services. The 4Ps of marketing mix in context
to Balfour Beatty are given bellow-
 Product: It is defined as the term of offering the goods and services to customers. It is
the term of manufacture the product according to customers needs and wants and satisfy
them by providing better goods and services.
 Price: It is defined aa the term of product price where the company is able to set the
product price according to product total cost. The goals of set the price of the product is
to delivered to customers and attract them to purchase the product.
 Promotion: It is refers to promotion of the products by advertising, strategy and public
relation which helps to attract and aware the customers about the product and services
which company provides.
 Place: It is refers to the location where the product will be sell in the future. Place is the
most important part of marketing 4Ps where it is analysis that product will be sell and
customers are more available in the targeted market.

their goods and services which they provide. It is also helps to select the best location to serve
and produce the services of company. this strategy will help the company to analysis the total
price of the product and services (Rossi, 2019).

Human Resources is defined as the strategic approach which is a department in business
which is responsible to manage the overall process of employee including recruiting, selecting,

hiring, training, controlling. In relation to Balfour Beatty, the human resources management
helps to selecting the best candidate for the company by analysis his abilities, talent, performance
etc. there are some functions of Human resources in company which are given below-
 Recruitment and selection: It is the process of choosing or findings the candidates for
the position and selecting the best candidate for the job role which helps the company to
develop the growth and performance by selecting the best candidates. In setting to

helps to develop the performance of the company and helps to achieve the gaols with

management helps to determine the overall process of company which considers as the
high performance of employee within the company. In relation to Balfour Beatty, they
should select the talented employees for their company which helps to develop the
company performance and helps to achieve the goals of the company with success
(Wright, and et.al., 2018).

design and develop the Construction. It has been analysis that the company use tall
organizational structure. Balfour Beatty using marketing mix strategies to develop their company

with the helps of marketing 4Ps which includes price, place, promotion, product. It has been
analysis that the Balfour Beatty uses Human Resources function for recruitment and selection of
employees. It is also defined the talent management and employee relations of company.
