INTRODUCTION
Management is the operation of an entity, whether it be a nation, a corporation, a non-profit
organisation. This is the planning, coordination, hiring, administration and supervision of
organizational operations. It also controls the staff in the organization. This is often known to be
science, art and trade, and to bring individuals together to reach goals by merging and leveraging
capital successfully and efficiently (Anderson and et. al., 2018). It has a range of roles, such as
accounting, finance, consultancy, communications, banking, corporate management, human
capital, distribution and operations. This is a plan that lays out the organization through
concerted actions of workers to accomplish goals through the utilization of tools such as capital,
technical, environmental, human resources. If all activities of organisation are properly managed
and organised then it will helps to improve the organisational productivity and profitability.
To understand about this, Vodafone has been taken that is multinational telecommunication
company in UK. This organisation is providing fixed line telephone, internet television,
Broadband, mobile phone, digital television, IPTV etc. by understanding people demand and
current trend that helps to manage the organisational; activities and business performance. Every
organisation is needed to manage people who are working in this organisation that helps to
manage the activities and increase business performance. This report covers different topics such
as difference between leadership and management, roles and function of leader and manager and
interrelation between organisational functions which helps to maintain the business performance
and increase profitability.
MAIN BODY
About Organisation – Vodafone is a multinational telecommunication company which was
founded in 1991 in order to provide telephonic services to people. the registered office of such
organisation is located in New bury, England, Berkshire which are based in London. It operates
services in different regions such as Oceania, Europe, Africa, Asia and others which helps to
provide the services and maintain the good profile of organisation. Vodafone owned and
operated network in 25 countries that helped to increase the business activities. It has a primary
listing on the London Stock Exchange that increases brand image. Management structure states
how a company organises its management hierarchy and activities that helps to complete the task
which is assigned by superiors. This organisation is following Hierarchy structure where head of

each department are responsible to manage their performance by getting reports from their
subordinates and supports them to complete the functions (Reid and Sanders, 2019).
In business environment different forms of businesses are exist such as sole proprietorship,
partnership, corporation, limited liability and cooperatives which are providing different types of
products and services. In sole proprietorship all business activities and functions are managed by
single person who owned enterprises and maintain the business performance. In partnership, two
and more than two persons are started their business by sharing profit and loss ration which helps
to run business and maintain functions. Whereas limited liability is the another form of
organisation where member who have involved in business running activities up to limited
liability who take responsibilities and steps to run their organisation and maintain the
profitability (Gabriel, Maxwell and Orgill, 2019).
In Vodafone managers and leaders are playing different roles and functions that are as defined:
Management – This is the process which is used In this organisation, all activities and
functions are managed by managers and leaders which helps to improve the organisational
productivity.by management in order to decide goals, and manage activity by making plans and
strategies which helps to improve the organisational productivity and profitability (Combe,
2014).
Leadership – This is also a continuous process which is important for organisation to
retain employees and inspire them to completing the work is consider as leadership (Fukasawa
and et. al., 2013).

Leader – A person who have knowledge and motivational skills that uses to attracts
employees and getting things done in certain period of time is known as leaders. In Vodafone,
leaders are playing important role as they understand the problems of their employees in order to
adopt new technology and distribution process where leaders lead them and motivates to
complete the task in effective time so organisational can attain their goals (Hughes, 2012).
Manager – A person who with charge of making decision and getting goals by planning,
organising directing and controlling the organisational functions which helps to improve the
organisational productivity and profitability. In Vodafone, manager decide goals to increase the

management and leadership that are interlinked to each other that are as defined:
HRM with marketing – The HR manager understand the requirement of marketing
people in marketing department that helps to fill the vacancy by recruiting then marketing people
have special knowledge and experience to attracts people and increase organisational sales. Both
functions are important without marketing people do not get information regarding new products
and services where as without HRM function employees recruitment process cannot be done
(Solove, 2012).
Finance with marketing – To run any functions and activities finance is important
which helps to complete all task and functions effectively. This is important for organisation to
manage both function with the help of people so activities can be performed. The finance
department of Vodafone is providing finance to marketing or advertisement, introducing
something and running functions which helps to complete the task effectively (Hazen and et. al.,
2014).
IT with operation – This means all functions and activities in an organisation should be
continue and operate on daily basis so it can reach on decided targets. In Vodafone, managers are
operating their functions and managing activities effectively. They manage functions and new
technology that improve organisational productivity and profitability (Wilkinson, Wood and
Demirbag, 2014).
Different management theories that are uses by management of Vodafone that are as defined:
Classical management theory – This is considered as oldest management theory which is
used to focuses on operations and creation of standards in order to increase production and
output. The management of Vodafone are using compensate and benefits as primary motivation
for employees that helps to perform well and increase organisational productivity (Management
theories, 2020).
Scientific management theory – This is also a management theory which uses to focuses
on maximising the production, minimizing wastages and reducing production times which helps
to improve the operation and increasing employees performance (Riebsame, 2019).
Administrative theory – This theory is developed by Henry Fayol, who is founder of
management and stated that management is the main process which should be used by people in
order to manage and run activities effectively. The management of Vodafone are consider all

managers provides detailed guidelines and direction to perform the activities and completing task
effectively (Riebsame, 2019).

From the above report it can be concluded that people management is the important process
and activities which is required in all organisation that helps to complete the task and maintain
business performance. Manager and leaders are different people who are playing different roles
and functions in order to complete task and business activities so productivity and profitability
can be maintain effectively. Manager is people who have management attributes and strong
planning to increase organisational productivity. Whereas leader is a person, who motivates and
inspire employees to achieve common goals by working collectively. Management theories are
used to provide better quality of products and services by managing people and maintaining
