INTRODUCTION
Human resource is the association of individuals who create the workforce of the
company,industry, business sector. In narrower concept it is known as human capital, the
knowledge which the individual embody. HR includes labour, personnel associates, manpower,
individuals. As in every organisation the role of HR is significant because various activities
related to administration, Recruitment, Selection, training, preparation of salaries, making
records of attendance are perform by them. With the help of HR every organisation work with
easy flow. Human Resource Management is the approach to manage people effectively in the
organisation. It is determine for the purpose to maximize performance of employees with regards
to employer's and organisation strategic objectives. In the organisation through providing time to
time motivation Smart managers of the company make control over the employees that leads to
increase productivity and growth. By offering various monitory and non financial incentives
Human resource Team can easily motivate their employees that tends to increase retention of
workforce for long term. The organisation that was selected for the project is Morrisons. It is the
fourth largest chain of Supermarket in UK. It was introduce by William Morrison in 1899. In this
report various related topics are discuss as these are Contemporary issues faces when it comes to
people management, description of the skills & behaviour needed to be an effective people
manager. And also give explanation about HR process underpin and support management when
it comes regarding effective performance management (Lehtimäki, 2016)

Q.1. Issues face by management team when it comes towards people management?
At the time of making control when the workforce are engaged to perform, their activity.
Many issues are face by the company. AS may challenges and difficulties are come in the
journey of HR job. The management team of Morrisons generally face the problems in following
matters as these are explain with the example of theory as follows:
 Adapting to Innovation: It has helped the company to understand problems solving &
cognitive style. Kirton's adaptation innovation theory provides an explanation to our
inherent differences based on how we solve problems and think creatively.
Understanding this is like getting to know other people better, once you know how

people think and behave, you're better able to collaborate with them and avoid
unnecessary conflicts. Morrisons generally face the problem related to Innovation
adaption in the working place. To overcome with the problem various initiative steps
must be taken by management team so that it can easily achieve the objectives of the
company (Thompson, 2016)
Disruptive innovation is the most important theory of innovation. It provides an explanation
regarding why established and large organisation eventually get overtaken by smaller ones and
the concept of disruptive innovation is also introduces by it. In simple words it explain that small
companies can disrupt the organisation large market by releasing new version of an offering that
appeals more to a subset of the audience. ON the other hand new technologies are released by
small companies whose quality are inferior as compare to large companies. But makes up for it
in another way like a lower price. Overtime this advanced technology will begin to improve to
handle more demanding uses ( McEntire, 2018)
 Theory
Leadership Development: It is the process that helps to expand the capacity of individuals to
perform the role of leader in the organisation. To facilitate the implementation of strategies of
company throw building alignment and growing the capabilities of others. To guide the team
members properly so that they can easily achieve the objectives of the company, the leader must
be , knowledgable, talented, having excellent communication skills. To develop the qualities of
leadership in individual is not easy. Various training and development programme is conduct for
that purpose in Morrisons so that the qualities of person develop develop and highlight (Hansen,
2017)
Theory
Trait Theory of leadership: It assumes that people inherit various qualities & traits that make
them better suited to leadership. This theory identify behavioural characteristic shared by leaders.
Traits related to courage, self confidence, are the features that could lined to smart leaders. There
are so many people who have personality traits associated with leadership, There are various
individuals who lack some key traits often associated with effective leadership yet still excel at
leading groups (Hayes, 2017)

Q.2. Knowledge, skills & behaviour needed to become an effective manager?
To run the business in productive manner , there is need of smart manager in the
organisation who give direction on regular interval of time. The individual must posses the
following qualities to become the effective manager.
Skills: He/ she must have excellent communication skills so that second person can
easily understand what first person try to say. He/ she must posses the quality of soft skills and
managers must have talent of delegation of authority & power. The another quality they should
have is excellent convincing power so that he/ she can easily satisfy the other party as according
to terms. He must become a good communicator & listen the views of their team members. Have
technical skill also so that he/ she is familiar with the technology. He should recruit and select
the right candidate for their team. The employees should motivated by manager if they perform
best (Nissen, 2018)
Knowledge: To become effective manager, individual should have deep knowledge of
labour laws, law related to salary & wages, security benefits etc. Knowledge of computer is must
so that Manager can easily perform all the administrative work in the organisation. Advanced
and updated knowledge of tax help them at the time of making calculation for salaries and
deductions.
Behaviour: He must posses the quality of cooperation, coordination and high patience
level, He should not act as dictator but try to involve their teams at the time of taking decisions.
He must be loyal towards their team members and organisation.
The organisation Morrisons necessarily want these qualities in their manager so that
business and productivity can easily increase (Shaw, 2018)
 Motivating: It is the process in which appreciation is given to workforce for their
better performance. It increase the confidence level of employees and also to
improve morale of the workers. The organisation Morrison motivate their
employees by providing them money benefits. Festival bonus is provided in cash
by the company to serve this purpose. By providing various non monetary
benefits like good working environment, facilities related to health and safety,
retirement benefits the brands try to retain their workforce for long duration in the
in company (Barrera, 2020)

Maslows theory of motivation
Psychological needs:It is related to basic needs as it is primary requirement for
every individual because without these survival is not possible. Morrisons
motivate their workforce by satisfying these needs by giving appropriate salary &
Wages (VanGuilder, 2018)
Safety needs: It is totally relates to security. Some of their examples are
prevention from health issues by providing facilities of safe drinking water,
canteen facility, availability of spittoons, rest room, neat and clean toilets etc. Job
Security are another example of it. Morrisons provide all these facilities to serve
the purpose of motivation ( Oishi, 2016)
Love as well as belongingness needs:In includes need of friendship & love as this
requirement leads to coordination and cooperation. By maintaining healthy and
familiar environment Morrisons motivate their employees that results they put
their maximum effort an attain the goals of the company.
Needs of Esteem: It relates to status, respect, authority. If basic needs are fulfil
people try that their esteem needs also tends to fulfil that increase the respect in
the society. Morrisons motivate their work force that leads to develop confidence,
freedom in the minds of employees.
Self actualisation needs: It includes self satisfaction as by conducting training &
development programme smart managers of Morrisons develop confidence in the
employees in this manner they motivate their workforce.
 Delegation skills: If the company is larger it becomes essential for the
organisation to divide their work among different employees. As per functions
and levels, the task is divide. As Morrisons is large supermarket and it involves
various department so it necessary for managers to delegate the work to control
the whole work. In the organisation work is divided in to levels. Each unit has a
manager who controls the work of various subordinates at the next lower level.
The resulting organisational structure is known as managerial hierarchy. As it
help to monitor, coordinate and plan over multiple phrase. The main purpose of it
is to raise performance of organisation. In variety of ways , it achieve their goals.

Theory
In managerial hierarchy, every incumbent plays role of both subordinate and subordinates,
except for those at the very top level. The respective organisational arrangement requires the
settlement of suitable “ vertical relationship ” between subordinate and manager, called
delegation accountability relationship's. Managerial hierarchies are needs to develop informal
lateral relationships between managers at the same level in different divisions.
Q.3. What HR process underpin and support management when it comes to effective
performance management ?
Key strategies of HR to improve the performance of workers.
Make employees comfortable: By making their workforce comfortable it supports the
organisation to achieve the goals of the brand. Expert & smart managers of HR understand easily
how their employees feel comfortable &b happy in the work place. By providing benefits like
gifts, bonus, promotion, perquisites, allowances on regular basis they can easily make their staff
happy which also create healthy environment in place of working.
Keep their workforce happy: Pleased and happy employees will be committed to their
activity. Before deadline they complete their work. The plans & actions that every HR manager
try to bring in an organisation should help the employees to be happy in their work satisfied with
the overall working environment and also to ensure harmony between employer & employees.
Satisfies or happy employees will remain focused in their work and contribute towards the
execution of mission of company. So by using this strategy Morrisons can easily increase the
sales and revenue.
Plan Incentive programs: HR managers of Morrisons can plan and & try to implement
incentive programmes to increasing employees productivity at work. Executing finest incentive
programs can assist business to meet & increase required workers productivity at workers. It is
not easy task to manage employees productivity and it is also a challenge that can Human
resource managers to think differently and come up with strategies to increase performance of
employees.

Time to time appraisal of employee: Increasing productivity of employees is important
objectives in all kind of business . The best part of HR in Morrisons is that theat they perform the
job of formulating policies, programmes, procedures to analyse management of people. But few
HR try to implement workforce appraisal program to boot employees output.
CONCLUSION
On the basis of deep analysis it had to be conclude that in every organisation Human
Resource and HR management help the company to work with easy flow. Every Managers of the
corporate must have the features of self confidence, professional knowledge so that they can
easily handle the situation and challenges. Communication skills plays crucial role in prospect
of Human Resource because many moments face by manager where they need to represent on
organisational behalf. The qualities that every managers must have are decision making skills,
talent of team building, delegation intelligence, problem solving skills, Ability to handle the
situations effectively.
