1INTRODUCTION TO TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN
Description of Different Emerging Technologies
List of the chosen emerging technologies is given below:
1. Fuel cell vehicles
2. Recyclable thermoset plastics
3. Neuromorphic technology
1. Fuel cell vehicles: These are the vehicles that is powered by fuel cell or a
combination of super capacitor (Ehsani et al., 2018). Fuel cell vehicles offers more
advantage than the vehicles powered by hydrocarbon fuel or electric supply.
Electricity is generated in the fuel cells by using compressed hydrogen and oxygen
present in the air.
2. Recyclable thermoset plastics: A thermosetting plastic is a kind of polymer that
can be hardened by the process of curing from a liquid resin of high viscosity. Plastics
are composed of thermoset and thermoplastics of which thermoset plastics is capable
of reshaping by heating. These kind of materials are omnipresent in this era due to its
durability. As no recycling is perfectly efficient, it results in a landfill. In 2014 some
major steps were taken as written in a journal Science announcing the discovery
indicating a specific kind of polymer known as PHT (Miller et al., 2014). PHTs are
capable of being dissolved in stronger acids in order to break the polymer chains to
form monomers to combine to make new products.
3. Neuromorphic Technology: Even the supercomputers cannot be compared with
the wisdom of a human brain. The neuromorphic chips are made to develop a process

for conducting the information in a very different way as compared to those
conducted by the traditional hardware (Furber, 2016). These chips are capable of
making resemblance to the architecture of a human brain in order to deliver an
enormous thinking power and responding attributes.
