1INVESTIGATE ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS IN MARITIME LOGISTICS AbstractThis study focuses on risk analysis in maritime logistics with focus on Australian cases. Theresearch has identified different factors that created risks in maritime logistics. The aim of theresearch is to analyse factors causing environmental risks in the maritime logistics. In addition, the risk management framework has been discussed in the study. The research will use positivism philosophy with a deductive approach and descriptive design.Data will be collected from both primary and secondary sources. The date collection and samplepopulation will be managers and employees of maritime logistical companies in Australia. Therewill be close-ended questions included in questionnaires. The data will be analysed using bothqualitative and quantitative analysis method. The expected outcome of the research will help inmitigating risks involved in the maritime logistics.

3INVESTIGATE ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS IN MARITIME LOGISTICS 1. Introduction1.1Research BackgroundTransport industry has been a developing market for transportation of goods and materials.Approximately 90 percent of the goods in volume are transported by waterways. Therefore, theneed of industrialization is vital in the trade business through waterways (Bergqvist and Egels-Zandén 2012). Ocean transport has been one of the great sources of income for the country. Therevenue invested in the waterways has been increased by 4% in recent years (Song andPanayides 2012). This is the effect of industrialization in the maritime industry has beenincreasing the profit for various companies in the industry. The analysis of the markets in theindustry has been a great impact for the researchers in order to understand risks involved intheindustry.Environmental sustainability in port industry has been a growing concern for the portauthority and policy makers in the industry (Panayides and Song 2013). Communities includedin this industry have been affected by risks involved in the port. The evolution of maritimelogistics has been a major content for the development of the port facility in the industry. Theincrease in demands of maritime transportation has attracted investors to invest in the industry(Acciaro et al. 2014). The maritime logistics have been creating a major impact on thedevelopment of the tourism by increasing the facilities at ports. The revenue of the sea ports hasbeen increasing with the implementation of the maritime logistics. The bulk cargo ships contain various bulk materials including crude oiland various crudeminerals. Therefore, the transaction of money is huge in this context. The logistics of themaritime industry have to be well maintained for avoiding financial loss in the company. This

4INVESTIGATE ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS IN MARITIME LOGISTICS research outlines the risk factors that are included in the maritime logistics and transportservices. Different risks involved in this context will be critically analyzed. 1.2Research RationaleMaritime transport has been playing a dominant role in maintaining the international trade for acountry. The transport of bulk materials and commodities with the help of large ships has beeninfluencing the market. However, intermodal transport has become a global phenomenon that hasbeen mechanized by industrialization. As mentioned by Osthorst and Mänz (2012), ports havebecome elements in global commodity chains that help in maintaining the transport of themaritime industry. The import and export of goods are done on the ports of the respectivecountries. The risk management on the ports has been a critical issue of the industry. In recent years, Australia has been facing challenges in the development of the ports and itsinfrastructure (Holmgren et al. 2014). Major risks include the diversity in the change of climatein Australia. The climatic change has been creating risks regarding accidents over oceans andhardware damage in cargo ships. Therefore, rates of transport have been increased by 3.5 % bythe shipping company (Acciaro and McKinnon 2013). This has created the rise in the price ofcommodities in the market. Therefore, the development of maritime industry is a critical point inorder to maintain different scenarios in the state. The adoption of 2030 Agenda for SustainableDevelopment in order to prepare a framework for the development of ports in Australia has beensigned (Acciaro and McKinnon 2013). The International Convention for the Safety of Life at seaamendments has been verified for the gross mass containers improved for stability and safety ofships (Arıkan, Fichtinger and Ries 2014).

The research willprovide detailed intimation of various risks including climatic change and its impacts on themaritime industries. The research will help in fulfilling the objectives and aim of the researchthat will be initialized. 1.3 Research Aims, objectives and questionsThe objectives of the research are as follows:To identify the environmental risks involved in the maritime logistics
