The branch of psychology which utilizes
psychological theories and principles to the
companies is called Industrial-organizational
psychology.
This branch is often called also as the I/O
psychology, people working in this field focus on
improving the productivity of the workplace and
related challenges for instance the physical and
mental well-being of employees (Riggio, 2017).

Who are I/O Psychologist?
Those scientists and practitioners who have
knowledge and experience in the designing,
implementation and elucidation of research in
psychology and those who implement their
research outcomes to assist in solving the
human and organizational challenges in the
setting of organized work are called as I/O
Psychologists (Riggio, 2017).

Role of I/O Psychologists
The I/O Psychologists have a number of
responsibilities (Riggio, 2017). They are –
• To recruit and hire the suitable people for the
company’s specific job roles working along with
the human resources personnel.
• To train and develop the employees using
psychology.
• They are also responsible for the maintaining the
mental and physical wellbeing of all the
employees.
• The I/O Psychologists can also evaluate the
company’s structure to recognize the strength
and weakness.

By hiring a I/O psychologist, the company will
benefit in a number of ways –

streamline the HR department.
