INTERNET OF THINGS IN FARMING 2
Abstract
The topic that has been chosen for the research is “Internet of Things in Farming”. The main
purpose of this report is to identify the methods of smart farming with the utilization of IoT
technologies that will help the farmers to increase their productivity by using innovative farm
vehicles. In the research, it has been found that the agricultural system is mostly dependent on
the human efforts for carrying out various kinds of farming activities. In the agricultural sector,
there are various kinds of challenges being identified and which is not possible to be solved by
the human efforts only (Jayaraman, Yavari, Georgakopoulos, Morshed & Zaslavsky, 2016). The
problem statement for this research is about the identification of the soil testing and monitoring
mechanism related to smart farming with the utilization of IoT. Agriculture is regarded as the
basis of life for all human beings and farming is found to be the primary source of crops and
various kinds of raw materials. With the advancement of technologies, it has been found that the
Internet of Things (IoT) can be used as a medium for enhancing the productivity of crops.
According to the recent researches, it has been found that the changing climatic conditions result
in affecting the agriculture in different ways such as changes nutritional food qualities, changes
in rainfall, average temperature, ozone concentration, and level of carbon dioxide. Based on the
studies of the recent experts it has been found that the Internet of Things has the capability to
fulfill crucial requirements of farming (Channe, Kothari & Kadam, 2015). In addition to the
utilization of cloud and big data, the IoT can be used for monitoring the livestock, scanning of
water tanks, predicting the diseases that are related to crops, and various other applications. The
applications related to IoT and cloud computing can be combined for enhancing the production
of crops for the farmers.
