2 IOT SMART CITY 1. Introduction 1.1 Introduction to the Problem and Domain Background: The IoT or Internet of Things is the specific system of quite a few interlinked computing device, object, digital machine, mechanical machine and many others, which are eventually provided by the UIDs or unique identifiers (Wortmann & Flüchter, 2015). There is a significant ability for transferring data on the network without even needing any humans to computers or humans to humans interactions. These things of the technology of Internet of Things could either be a person or any device that comprises of the in built sensors for altering the users as well as transferring confidential data within the network. The organizations are utilizing the Internet of Things for operating more efficiently or effectively. An improvised decision making as well as enhanced customer services is provided by this technology. The overall efficiency is highly improved and hence the client obtains economic advantages and the human exertions should be reduced (Lee et al., 2013). The Internet of Things includes extension of Internet connection beyond the standard devices. The remote monitoring as well as controlling of the devices is easily done with the help of IoT technology. Applications of IoT in Smart City: The Internet of Things in smart cities helps in the urban rapid growth or development to provide higher strain or stress over the existing infrastructures (Yang, 2014). Various important as well as significant applications of this technology of Internet of Things are present that helps in the total growth for any smart city. All of these applications usually have invited extreme innovation and effectiveness to properly enhance the several services. Moreover, the overall expenses of the smart cities are reduced to a greater level. The reliability and trustworthiness of the transportation system is yet another significant application of the technology of Internet of Things. Moreover, an
3 IOT SMART CITY extremely efficient and effective water supply connection is also provided by this technology. The Internet of Things even makes energy efficient buildings for its users (Gubbi et al., 2013). Hence, it is quite easy with the legacy infrastructures of the buildings for saving energy and finally improving the sustainability. Public safety is quite improvised with the systems of video monitoring for tackling the various safety concerns, which come up with the growth of smart cities. Some of the major cities comprise of several cameras that monitor the traffic to avoid accidents (Zanella et al., 2014). The software of video analytics is also provided by the technology of Internet of Things for helping the procedure of checking the hours of video footages within the smart cities. The public transportation often gets disrupted as soon as there are various road closures, equipment breakdowns or bad weather. These affect the growth of the smart cities and hence the residents suffer a lot due to this issue. The traffic congestion is also reduced with the help of the technology of IoT. The transformation of the smart cities is eventually done with this particular technology. Water supply is considered as the most important and significant requirement for any city and the Internet of Things technology helps to get the potential for transforming the way these cities could consume water (Chandrakanth et al., 2014). The smart meters could improvise the leak detection as well as data integrity and the prevention of lost revenue for the inefficiency is obtained. The analysis of data is also easily done with these IoT applications. In spite of having such important advantages, there are some of the major security issues present for IoT smart city. These types of security issues or problems often become major challenges for the residents of the smart cites. The first and the most important security issue of the IoT smart city is the lack of security in the constrained devices (Zanella et al., 2014). The lack of authorization and authentication of the IoT devices is yet another important security challenge for the residents of smart city. Moreover, these residents often
