1IT FOR BUSINESSExecutive SummaryThe aim of this report is to get a proper understanding of the POS system and its benefits. Thisreport focuses on the new POS system implemented by Four Seasons Greenhouse and Nursery, asmall nursery located in Colorado. The use of manual registers for data tracking and maintaininginventory caused business loss or negligible profit. The small nursery could effectively useinformation and achieve competitive advantage by using the new POS system. This report alsoprovides recommendation for using Wi-fi technology and wide area network for the POS systemof the nursery. This report also gives suggestions such as use of firewalls, implementation ofauthorization levels and installation of anti-virus program for protecting the business againstsecurity, confidentiality and privacy risks respectively.

3IT FOR BUSINESSIntroductionThe point-of-sale systems have replaced traditional cash registers and manual datatracking process. POS systems can accurately maintain, distribute and track sales, purchase andinventory data (Rahman & Ripon, 2014). POS systems help organizations to generate morerevenue and increase profit margin by simplifying and enhancing operational efficiencies of thebusiness (Refer to Appendix 2). This report analyses a case study of a small business, FourSeasons Greenhouse and Nursery that has started using a POS system since 2008. This reportdiscusses various advantages and disadvantages of the POS system. It shows how this POSsystem will help the organization to achieve competitive advantages and facilitate the decisionmaking. This report recommends suitable telecommunication options for the POS system of thebusiness and discusses the various types of business risks that can occur due to the POS system.It also gives suggestions for protecting the organization against the business risks. 1. Advantages and Disadvantages of the new POS SystemThe POS or point-of-sale system has been able to overcome the challenges faced by FourSeasons Greenhouse and Nursery (Refer to Appendix 1). Several advantages of the new POSsystem are:1. The process of manual tracking gets eliminated by implementing a POS system. POSsystems can automatically produce business reports for effective operations of the organizations.The POS system can be considered to be an advanced version of a cash register. It enhances theaccuracy of the reports and saves time.
