Task 1 – Impact and potential of virtualization
The steps that have been implemented by EnviroTec Engineering are as follows:
1. Relocation of its offices to less expensive areas: By relocating the company offices to the less
expensive areas, the company can reduce the operational costs of the organization. The virtual
mainframe that will be set up and the other input output devices that will be set up requires labor,
transportation and other costs. The less expensive areas have labor which are cheaper. This will
enable the organization to reduce the operational costs.
2. Encouragement of the virtual teams: Virtual teams can be able to solve the business problems and
apply solutions way too faster because of the application of different minds from different
locations on one problem. The flexibility in the work culture increases as each employee has the
opportunity to interact with his colleagues from different areas. It can annihilate the burden on
one team of one location. It will thus enforce better business solutions.
3. Introduction of web-based applications: The web applications lead to better service management.
The performance of the system increases with the web tools such as E-learning platforms, web
conferencing tools etcetera. The virtual teams can perform better using these web tools.
4. Setting up of Virtual Private Networks: Enabling of the VPN’s for a network enable security in
the network and reduce the probability of security breaches and cyber-attacks. They also enable
the facilitation of production as a lot of persons can connect to the networks. They enable the
rigidity in the network so that the people in the organization can work in a better way.
P1.1: Current Virtualization Solutions
The virtualization solutions that should be implemented should fulfill the following the following seven
types of virtualization:
1) Virtualization of Operating system: It involves the setting up of virtual machines, i.e., developing
a second instance or many instances of the current operating system. This helps in the reduction
of cost that the organization would spend on setting up of actual operating systems.
5
Document Page
Figure 1- Virtualization of OS
2) Virtualizing the application server: This virtualization concerns with the load balancing. The
management of the servers and the applications is done so that they both can be managed in one
instance.
3) Virtualizing applications: This is the ability to use the RAM and the CPU on the local systems
while they are stored on the server.
4) Virtualizing the network: The management of the IP addresses of the systems in the organization
virtually is very important.
5) Virtualizing the hardware: The hardware can be virtualized similarly to the operating system
virtualization by allocating the parts of the hardware system to perform several tasks.
6) Virtualizing the storage: The virtual storage system is set up to manage the data storage.
7) Administrative virtualization: This includes administering the privileges.
Some of the current solutions of virtualization are as follows:
1) Desktop virtualization: The isolation of the logical OS and its instance from the access client is
known as desktop virtualization. The types of desktop virtualization techniques that can be used
are host based VM’s, shared hosts, image streaming on the operating system, physical machines

based on the host and the VM’s based on the client. The top desktop vendors whom EnviroTec
Engineering can contact are VMware, Citrix, Microsoft and Splashtop.
2) Server Virtualization: The system should be customized in a way by the help of server
visualization, the means by which the system could support multiple applications.
3) Consolidation of server: The organizational costs can be reduced, utilization can be improved and
the control could be regained through the server consolidation. It is a process of improvising the
resource allocation on the server so that the server number or locations can be reduced.
4) Client virtualization: The applications can be maintained and patched properly so that the
management labor and cost of staff could be reduced.
5) Disaster recovery principles: The disaster recovery principle is related to the time required for the
protection and recovery of data. When data recovery time is reduced, virtualization is easy.
6) Cloud services: The recovery, backup of data and reliability can be obtained, which are the pillars
of the virtualization can be obtained through integrating the cloud services, whether public or
private.
M1: Identify and apply strategies to find appropriate solutions.
The strategies that were applied to find out the virtualization solutions are as follows:
1) Identifying the vision of the organization: The vision of the organization should be made clear
before setting up the virtualization. The virtualization solutions will depend on the objective of
the organization behind implementing it. There can be many reasons why the organization wants
to implement virtualization. The aim can be to consolidate hardware, achieve load balancing or
reduce costs. EnviroTec Engineering needs to lower down the costs. Therefore, it would focus
more on desktop virtualization.
2) Virtualization Planning: The first step towards virtualization is to define the goal. Secondly, the
organization needs to describe the current environment. An inventory is to be prepared of the
organization’s environment and the organization’s needs. The hardware and the software that
needs consolidation needs to be identified. The workload needs to be identified so that the load
balancing techniques could be identified. The virtualization environments have to be chosen at
last.
3) Identifying the difference between physical and virtual: The organization should identify that
there are many differences between the physical and the virtual environment. First of all, the costs
related to the deployment of physical machines and the cost related to deploying of servers are
very different. These costs were first identified by EnviroTec Engineering and then the
virtualization solutions were suggested. The lifecycle of the work loads in context of virtual
machines have also to be identified. The disaster recovery plans while implementing
7
Document Page
virtualization are also altered. These all differences were analyzed and then virtualization was set
up.
4) Network Planning: The workload needs to be identified and consolidated so that the storage and
network can be identified. In case of EnviroTec Engineering, due to the large number of
employees and high traffic on network, the virtual network has been set the way required. There
was high traffic, therefore, there was also a need of virtual storage.
5) Identifying the cloud service: For virtualization, there may be a need for cloud storage. Therefore,
the cloud service has to be chosen accordingly which integrates with the hardware and the
software. It was also pondered that how the cloud service would benefit the organization in
future.
6) Timeline: The setting up of virtualization takes time. Proper timeline has to set up so that the
different phases of virtualization could be set up. EnviroTec Engineering has to set up a time plan
so that the virtualization can be set up.
P1.2: Technical requirements required for implementing virtualization
The technical requirements required for implementing virtualization are as follows:
1) Hardware requirements for virtual PC’s: These are the hardware requirements that are required
for the setting up of virtual desktops:
CPU & BIOS: The virtual desktops are very efficient if there is a constant CPU support.
If it falls, the functionality of the virtual machines would fall. The CPU should support
virtualization in a full-fledged way which should also be assisted by the hardware. The
settings of the BIOS should also be changed so that the machines support virtualization.
For virtualization, a virtual CPU is required for a single virtual machine. But, the number
of virtual CPU’s depend on the
RAM: Sufficient amount of RAM is required, at least 2 GB in the case of updated
windows to support full virtualization.
Hard Disk Storage: In case of virtualization, each VM needs its personal disk space for its
virtual drive. For the setting up a virtual PC, a minimum of 20MB of hard disk is needed.
In case of virtualization, at least 15- 20 GB is needed as a hard disk storage.
I/O Devices: The input and output devices would be required for setting up of windows
guest operating systems. The Ethernet or wireless adaptors would also be required for the
installation and updating of the virtual system (Alomari, 2015).
Network: Proper network should be set up for the virtualization. Following guidelines
should be followed while setting up the network:
8
Document Page
i. For the incoming data traffic, a distinct network switch has to be set up.
ii. A physical network switch has to be set up for the other traffics on the network.
iii. The network switch should be able to balance the workload. The network should
be dedicated to the usage of the data and access to each virtual machine should
be set up.
2) Software requirements: Following software requirements have been drawn out for the setting up
of virtualization:
A mandatory software for virtualization: A mandatory software, for example, VMware
vSphere ESXi, VMware vCenter etc. are mandatory for setting up of virtualization. Both
of these are centralized software used for virtualization. Other non-virtualized, bare
installations such as Citrix Xen, Microsoft Hyper-V, Red Hat KVM, etc. are not
supported by some systems such as Cisco.
Purchasing options for the selected software: Among the different virtualization
deployment options, a mandatory purchasing option should be selected for the software
selected for the virtualization.
Installations and update files: The installation and update files of the VMware are
required for the installation and updating of the selected software.
Virtual machine file system: This is required so that the storage could be facilitated even
for the multiple VMware installations. Thus, deployment becomes easy.
VMware Tools: These are the drivers for the virtual desktop machines which have to be
installed while the VMs are in running stage (Cisco.com, 2018).

P1.3: Critical Evaluation of the solutions
The virtualization solutions that have been proposed are critically analyzed here:
1) Microsoft Virtual PC: It can be critically evaluated on the following aspects:
Scalability: It is a free product related to virtualization provided by Microsoft. Thus, it is
scalable on all products that use windows. Thus, the scope becomes limited. It can be
deployed on any version.
Redundancy: It does not facilitate saving of multiple snapshots of the instance. This
affects mirroring.
Figure 2- Load Balancer in Microsoft Virtual PC
Support: There is no USB support. This is one of the limitations in the support.
Environmental Factors: All the common web-based applications work on this and the
remote access is more enhanced (Mundhra et al., 2018).
10
Document Page
Figure 3- Remote Desktop in Microsoft Virtual PC
Cost: It is a free product and can be a good choice for setting up virtualization.
2) VMware Server: It can be critically evaluated on the following aspects:
Scalability: It can be deployed on maximum of the operating systems. We have to just
take care of the 64-bit OS and 32-bit OS.
Redundancy: The load balancing, backup and mirroring is fully supported by VMware.
Figure 4- Load balancing in VMware

Demonstrate convergent/lateral / creative thinking
Lateral thinking was in the mind while we were opting for VMWARE as the virtualization solution.
EnviroTec Engineering is the firm that is dealing the conversion of the waste that is generated from the
regular household activities than with the proper use of resources it converts these wastes into electricity.
But now EnviroTec is becoming large and is now working on the large scale with lots of employees
scattered in different places. Now it is now becoming very much difficult for this Engineering firm to
maintain this large amount of task and data management. So now they are in urgent need of Virtualization
so that they can handle these tasks without any problem. This virtualization will not only help them to
data management but will also make their many tasks very easy to operate. By the use of virtualization,
they can be updated to the technology and will be very much advanced in terms of server management,
networking, and database management. VMware is the best tool when we are taking about the
virtualization. Dell technologies developed this tool for the parallel running of the various types of
operating system to make the task easier as only one O.S. can be used for various management.
19
Document Page
Task 3- Virtualization Deployment
P3.1 Implement the proposed solution. Document the steps of deployment, such as
planning, installation, configuration, testing, fine-tuning.
The Proposed Solution that is chosen is the VM ware it is chosen because it endowed with the abilities of
better Management with the scalable approach for the future. Also, it is highly secure and could be used
as a cost-effective method.
Deployment Steps:
The VM Ware needs to be properly installed upon the host device in order to create a virtual device for
the management of the system for the EnviroTec Engineering. There are several steps using which the
VM Ware could be Deployed on any system. This includes several processing steps including:
1. Planning:
a. This step invokes first finding the system specification
b. Check for Cost, Risk, Changes, Time and Quality
c. Check for the need of Equipment
d. Create a Road Map
e. Turn on Virtualization in the BIOS menu
2. Installation:
a. For beginning the installation first download the VM Ware from the official Website
b. Open VMware-workstation-full-14.1.2-8497320.exe
c. Select the next button on the prompt window to go to the next step
d. Agree for the Terms and condition
e. If needed Check the Enhanced Keyboard Driver
f. Begin installation
g. Enter valid Key details
3. Configuration:
a. 64-bit OS
b. RAM for the Virtual Machine (2048 MB Min)
c. 20 GB Min Hard Disk Space is needed for OS installation
d. Network Adapter: NAT
e. Other Devices: CD/DVD, USB Controller, Printer, Sound Card
4. Testing:
For testing a separate environment is created with the dummy data of the firm such that if the file gets
corrupted then the data remains unharmed.
In testing phase, the memory allocation should not be done within the main memory of the Host OS. As it
can increase the risk of host system hung up (Customtech.com, 2018).
5. Fine-tuning:
This could be done by:
a. Creating a virtualized environment in which after testing logs are saved
b. Using those logs the virtual machine’s setting could be changed
c. The Host hardware should be improved to match with the Virtual Machine Requirements

P3.3 Analyse test results in regards to the case study requirements
EnviroTec Engineering is the firm that is dealing the conversion of the waste that is generated from the
regular household activities than with the proper use of resources it converts these wastes into electricity.
But now EnviroTec is becoming large and is now working on the large scale with lots of employees
scattered in different places. Increased RAM, disk performance, and hard disk performance and proper
memory allocation of RAM would ensure that EnviroTec Engineering would gain benefits from the

Task 4 – Management
There are various virtualization tools available online all are having different capabilities. Such as some
of the tools are used for providing historical data and some provide the performance measure in real-time.
P4.1 Tools for management and monitoring of virtualization
Vizioncore vFoglight (once in the past Quest Software Inc.’s vFoglight) is the one of only a handful few
multiplatform executions estimating instruments and can screen both Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware
Inc. vSphere. VFoglight has the coolest interface, yet it might require a lot of assets to run.
Figure 11- VFoglight is one of only a handful couple of items that can screen both Hyper-V and vSphere execution
The red, green, yellow markers on the dashboard are important, like the apparently captivating charts and
the dials showing execution status. VFoglight, it just records all the information on the guest frames and
furthermore "cautions with the ace appeal." This thing has point by point building depictions, models
workload movement, and it manages the resource to utilize and diverse virtual server ranches.

Veeam Screen from Veeam Writing computer programs is a bit of the greater Veeam One suite. The
screen presents as a customary application for windows in which SQL Express can be included a close-by
database or interface it to our own specific database.
The watching and organization gadget arranges with the non-paid Veeam Business View for showing the
virtual infrastructure on how your association is created. The screen offers awesome points of view for
"top talkers" in the different resource domains: CPU, memory, accumulating and framework.
Figure 12 Veeam Screen offers an OK point of view for "top talkers" in each one of the particular resource domains: CPU,
memory, accumulating and framework.
The thing has above 125 execution alerts, and also it can relate vSphere execution information along with
vSphere events, which is also important for examining. The free type of Veeam Screen has a couple of
imperatives, for instance, giving only 7 days of history.
Veeam Screen notwithstanding goes with scope association, change the organization and
specifying/chargeback limits. The business adjustment of Veeam Screen is agentless and consolidates
custom alerts. It is like manner engages organization of guest, host and vCenter shapes

P4.2 Procedures and tools that can be used for maintenance of your virtualization
environment.
VKernel Corp. was the essential association to feature virtualization confine examination. Its vOPS
instrument passes on as a virtual machine, so there is no OS allow or standard application/database
acquaints with performing.
The VKernel vOperations Suite joins the Execution Analyzer, Farthest point Head, Streamlining operator,
Specifying and Chargeback parts.
Figure 13 vKernel vOperations suite is profitable for scope evaluation and predicting resource demands.
It is moreover available as a vCenter module or an Online interface and joins with Dynamic List. The
parts are basically opened with allowing keys, and just a single machine is required for each and every
impacted thing.
The single machine cuts the disease nature of virtualization watching and organization
A by and large new section in the market is VMTurbo Inc's. Virtualization Organization Suite (VMS).
VMS is a virtual mechanical assembly that gives essential virtual establishment seeing at no cost.
Additional modules (approved autonomously) consolidate Journalist, Coordinator and Streamlining
specialist, and the free Screen piece. The lion's share of VMTurbo's virtualization watching and
organization things are presented in a single virtual mechanical assembly.
25

The Journalist module revolves around execution uncovering and point of confinement specifying, not by
any means stock reporting like Veeam Reporter.
The coordinator oversees think about how conceivable it is that circumstances and is a degree association
gadget instead of a physical-to-virtual (P2V) organizing gadget. Streamlining operator helps in resource
change and bottleneck ID.
Figure 14 vMTurbo Screen is a degree association gadget, not a P2v orchestrating contraption, as the name may propose.
P4.3 Choosing between virtualization monitoring and management tools
Pick which limits are most fundamental for your server cultivate.
Not all virtualization watching and organization devices are made proportional. Some are normal for
general execution checking and alerts, while others offer very certain cutoff examination or exploring
capacities. Execution gadgets may be bundled with various things, for instance, change the organization
or declaring applications.
Veeam Screen and Adventure vFoglight are solid instances of standard, virtual structure execution
instruments. Regardless, lesser-alluded to execution instruments, for instance, Xangati, VKernel,
SolarWinds, and VMTurbo offer exceptional features. Guarantee you look at pariah merchants
beforehand you select a mechanical assembly.
