IoT and its impact on workplace
Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the modern systems integrate complex machines with
sensors and high end software programs that help in analysing data to raise productivity and
reduce costs and operational time (Madakam, 2015). Considering present work environment,
workplaces have renovated into inter-connected systems where people operate in accord with
technology. Moreover, the business efficiency has been increased with sharing of job duties
between computers and human resources and thus created a new environmental ecosystem.
According to various researches, it was also found that IoT market will be worth $225 billion
by 2020 with improving business process by bridging the gap between the information and
world (Nayak, 2018). Although, IoT infrastructure requires servers and cloud networks and
demands for sensors and physical device so as to accept, emit and process signals.
The potential impact of IoT on workplace is myriad in relation with empowering people,
increasing isolation digital dependence and various other collaborations. The first impact of
IoT can be said to be as increased workplace collaboration. IoT will make a more insular
workroom for the swift development of significant and new technologies that will benefit in
progress ease of collaboration. According to a review in Harvard Business, it was found that
58 percent or primary adopters of IoT system in the workplace recommend that it encourage
greater collaboration and results into innovation. For example, iRobot Ava 500 includes a co-
operative effort amid robotics firm iRobot and Cisco that enables individuals to have a more
true remote presence in a workplace anyplace in the domain. The importance of this system is
that it enables typical audio-visual conferencing to offer a physical existence with autonomy
of drive within an area. In every enterprise corner and base, Ava 500 is free to roam and
communicate face to face with slightly more than screen tap.
The next potential impact of IoT on organisation workplace can be called greater productivity
and efficiency as IoT developments enables management to get more in less time with
fulfilling higher scale tasks faster while creating fewer mistakes in the work. IoT technology
enables business firm to follow and control each aspect of the company from controlling
inventory to administering field service employee where each tool and devices are connected
to a centralised system (Bersin, 2017). This directly helps the organisation in improving data
analysis and organisation results and widen the opportunity in relation to business expansion.
In addition, improved connectivity IoT provides organisations to get more easily connect
