Theory
The psychodynamic theory
refers to work developed by
Sigmund Freud that holds that
an individual’s personality is
controlled by three factors
which include; the Id, Ego and
the Superego (Bornstein, 2018).
According to Freud, the Id is
responsible for making
demands while the ego puts the
demands into reality.
According to Freud, Superego
is the moral reasoning forces of
the individual personality and
which entails what is right or
wrong as perceived by society.

develop Ego and which acts as
a mediator between Superego
and ID and it’s responsible for
moral acts or criminal behavior.
Behavioral Theory According to the proponents of
Behavioral Theory, they believe
that human beings are not born
with the ability to act violently
instead they learn criminal
behavior from society. Some of
the sources include mass media,
family interaction, and
environmental experiences
(Hoermann, Zupanick, &
Dombeck, 2019). Behavioral
Theory holds that one will
engage in criminal behavior
when the rewards to the
behavior outweigh the
negatives of the behavior or
punishments.

The proponents of Moral
Development Theory hold that
individuals are likely to commit
crimes or engage in deviant
