Management (i)Summarize Mr. Josephs’ concerns about running Kisko Products Mr. Joseph is highly concerned on the new workplace legislation laws and procedures enacted. He is concerned on their impacts as they increase the hydro incurred costs and also increasing fees for several existing government programs. This will be likely to bring down the Kisko product business as he feels that the family enterprise is under risk (Foss, & Saebi,2017). He is Laos concerned that running kisko products is faces pressure for lower prices from other big retailers like Costco and Loblaw. He is also concerned about the seasonal employees who are not permanent and might not be loyal. There also exist narrow and unforgiving niche in the business and also increased competitors who will want to grab the entire business. There has been a cruel blow to the business as a result of the province ne workplace legislation which affects the minimum wage rates hence negatively impacts Mr. Joseph kisko products (Foss, & Saebi,2017).There exist rise in cost and as seen most of his products. He is afraid that increased power cost would reduce production. (ii)If you were a spokesperson for the Federal/Provincial/Regional/ Municipal government how would you respond to each concern? As the spokesperson for the provincial government I would recommend the enacting of suitable workplace policies and legislation that favors both the small retail business and 2
Management the workers. I would also address Mr. Joseph concern by helping the small business to relocate their manufacturing operations to a suitable and profit making environment. I would ensure laws and rules are put in place to ensure fair play in business and reduce unnecessary competition from large company rivals (Saebi, & Foss,2015).Attracting foreign investors like Google will also help small business to be established in the province. In the province favorable terms and policies of trade should be enacted to maximize on economic output. Policies should be enacted to increase province low productivity. Power policies are important in order to increase power and reduce extra electricity rates. (iii)Consider the business model for Haircut-on- wheels. Describe the business model used by Carol and Kimberly? Franchise business model The Beauty on demand business model used by carol and Kimberly is in hybrid form as it involves the sole proprietorship kind with those characteristic of a salon corporation. It this model, it has allowed them to grow the business by selling the rights the salons brand(Saebi, & Foss,2015).The cost sensitive items are placed low. Haircuts on Wheels is fast-paced and interesting. Stylists receive on-going training to improve skills and efficiency, everyone works as a team; everyone has areas of proficiency and potential forgrowth. The model enables them to their researching skills, implementing and improving on new ideas. 3
