Aborigines Protection Act
White Australia policy
Aborigine’s protection Act is a legislative act that was amended in 1909. Its main aim was to
provide protection and care to all Indigenous communities living in Australia. It was the first
protection and care act that applied to all Indigenous people. Before the act was implemented,
many of the Indigenous communities were restricted from gaining access to free government
services such as education and healthcare. The act came under control to protect and ensure that
the whole communities, including children, have free access to education and health care. The
legislation has brought a large impact on the current health and wellbeing of the Indigenous
Communities and their families. Through the act, the social and emotional wellbeing of the
community has improved. As per (Macoun, 2011), the incidences of mental health and chronic
disorders among the community have decreased by 40 percent. Besides, the right to access to
education and integrated health care has improved the living standards of the community. The
community has been empowered to participate in health programs that have improved the overall
health and wellbeing of the community (Macoun, 2011).
