1.Introduction
Knowledge management is regarded as a process based on the creation, sharing, usage
and proper management of the levels of knowledge as well as information of the organization
(Idris, Nita and Godwin 2015). This is considered to be a multidisciplinary approach that
helps in the achievement of the organizational objectives and using the knowledge in the best
way (Donate and de Pablo 2015). With the same, in this contemporary world, social media
expedites the contact among the employees who wants to absorb knowledge from their peers.
All these aspects are effecting the workplace atmosphere and the stress level of the
employees in several ways.It is also to note that the process of knowledge management is
considered to be important for the proper analysis of the issues that are faced by the
organization that is selected for analysis.
This report shall elaborate on analysing the ways by which an organization has been
able to make effective use of this knowledge in order to maintain the operations in an
effective way. The chosen organisation for this purpose is “Muscat Municipality in
Sultanate of Oman” (Palanivel and Sulaiman 2014). It was developed in the early twenties
when administrative organizations had first started their operations. The municipal council is
a part of the developed municipality and different branches of the municipality as well.
However, the challenges that are being faced by the organization will be the most significant
part of the analysis that will be made in the report in detail.Furthermore, critical evaluation
will be made that would be related to concept related to proper knowledge management
process and proper implementation of these concepts to resolve the issues that are faced by
the organization in the course of its operations (Tidd and Bessant 2018). Lastly,
recommendations will be provided with respect to the case situation and the issues that are
faced by the organization.
2. Discussion
2.1. Issues and challenges faced by the company
Today, companies are facing many issues and problems in terms of information
management (Conger 2015). In several different ways, the emergence and rapid growth of the
electronic information has worsened all these problems and issues over the last two decades.
Some of the very common management problems are that of little integration and
coordination among the information systems, huge number of disparate information
management systems, direct competition among the information management systems, very
limited and very patch adoption of the prevailing information systems by the organisational
employees, low quality information comprising of shortage of duplication, outdated
information and lack of consistency (Sanchez 2015).
It is to note that Muscat Municipality is a public institution that is dedicated towards
the enhancement and improvement of the public services. Its main responsibilities are
creating modern road networks and highways for the beautification of the city and the other
important services like building permits, rent contracts, parking violation, Muscat
Municipality license in the capital city of Oman, Muscat. However, it is to note that Muscat
Municipality is recently facing some significant issues in terms of Knowledge management
aspect (Baawain et al. 2017). The organisational culture within the municipality has been
found to be not supporting the view that a company must value the knowledge and ideas that
