PART B
INTRODUCTION
Child labour is an illegal act which is being carried on from several centuries in the world
and it is now being considered highly illegal and irrational to be practicing. Even the
governments and legal institutions of different countries has taken several steps for mitigating
and eventually eliminating child labour from the society. This report also help in understanding
child labour issues and need of these issues to be addressed.
Compare the arguments for and against banning all forms of child labour in supply chains
Child labour is considered as one of the major issues globally as it is affecting millions of
child every year globally. There are several businesses which have major child labourers and this
includes sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, construction etc. In current scenario, global
supply chains are more exposed towards child labour as children and adults are more exploited
and facts and figures shows that it is being outlawed in every major economy of world. It is
shown that not all types of child labour are considered as threat to physical, social and emotional
wellbeing of children. There are several international, government bodies which are working
towards ending child labour from global supply chains. Child labour is also considered as a
major issue due to lack of education and higher poverty rates which influences children to work
and their rights are being exploited by different organisation and businesses. It is being
considered that there are arguments for and towards child labour in supply chains and

international labour organisation have focused on distinguishing between hazardous and non-
hazardous form of child labour (Dammert and et. al., 2018).
Arguments against child labour
International labour organisation defines that child labour is considered dangerous for
children when there is exploitation of them in terms of mentally, physically, socially and
emotionally. There are several negative impacts of the child labour on the children and it can be
possible in several forms. Child labour affects the education of children as children which are
working for long hours may face negative impact on their education and it can affect their future
development and also it can affect their accessibility to further education and economic
opportunities in future. Millions of children which are working in the dangerous conditions
which are hazardous for them and making negative impact on them in terms of mentally, socially
and emotionally. Children which are working in hazardous conditions may face several problems
related with their health and mental well-being. Children which are working in mills, factories
may face several long-term problems such as problem in breathing, weak immune system, health
problems related to heart, face etc. Children might face several issues such as malnutrition, abuse
and exhaustion (Meyer and et. al., 2020).
Child labour is considered as major issues in global supply chain and despite the efforts
of international bodies and government there is no permanent solution for this issue. Many
children which are trafficked or migrated from other country or nation and many of children
which are uprooted by poverty or conflict are most vulnerable towards this and trafficked
children are mostly subjected to violence, abuse and violation of human rights. Child labour is
considered as discrimination and inequality in society and it robs childhood of the children and
also robs their rights related with equality, education, opinion etc. Child labour affects education
of their children and it also affects child physical and mental well-being.
Argument in favour of child labour
There are several negative impact of child labour but there is one argument which
belongs in favour of child labour as communities in which there is high levels of poverty child
labour or a child income plays vital role in survival of families which are dependent on their
child for food, shelter and clothes. Child income can help families in their survival and also help
in providing support in social and financial terms. If there is no income for the families then
several families might face problem related to food, shelter etc. high poverty rate also increase

the chances of exploitation of families and communities (Dammert and et. al., 2017). There are
several law and enforcement agencies which focuses on prohibiting child labour in mills, textiles
and factories but due to high poverty rates children of several families have to work in order to
provide stability to their families. Child labour that's why consider as benefit for families because
under the right employment conditions, part-time, casual work help in managing their families
and completing their needs in terms of food, clothes and shelter. Despite all the measures from
international and national bodies there are arguments in favour of child labour as it helps poor
families in their survival as lack of basic needs affect their survival and increase in poverty rate
also make children more vulnerable towards exploitation. People which argue in support of child
labour states that creating an effective workplace and supporting children to work is helpful in
various situations (Cho and et. al., 2019).
Child labour which is considered as major issue all across the globe as it has negative
impact on the physical and mental health of children. It is important to take effective approach
towards child labour as there are several factors which work as major force towards child labour.
High poverty rate, lack of affordable schools and education etc. are considered as force towards
child labour. There are several beliefs which also influences this issue and it encourages child
labour as factor for building and developing skill of children. There are several cultural and
social traditions which also encourages child labour and major causes of this issue includes
socio-economic disparities, poor governance and poor implementation of international and
national agreements. This issue affects the health and well- being of children which are working
in conditions which are hazardous and dangerous for children and which can also make major
negative impact on children health in long-term scenario. Effective and strict rules and regulation
are important to overcome this issue and to prevent children from any kind of exploitation
(Boersma, 2018).
Supporting Evidence
Several countries have made some strict rules and policies which helps in saving children from
their exploitation and helps children to have their rights which can help them in developing and
boosting their confidence. Bureau of International Labour Affairs works with different
organization like world vision to stop the exploitation of children and to provide better
environment for their growth and development.
