Introduction
The ‘International Brotherhood of Teamsters’ [IBT] is regarded as a labor union in the
nation of United States and in the nation of Canada. It was established in the year of 1903, when
‘The Teamsters National Union’ and ‘The Team Drivers International Union’ were
amalgamated. Even though the Teamsters existed in the nation of Canada in the year of 1903, it
was established in the year of 1976. The charter of ‘International Brotherhood of Teamsters
Local 362’ was established in connection to the International in the year of 1962. By the year
1965, Local 362 expanded to a quantum of thousand members. Presently, seven thousand and
four hundred members of Local 362 work for the companies linked to construction and
transportation. The workers also work for other related industries. The head office of Local 362
is in Calgary and the administrative offices of the organization are located at Edmonton and Fort
McMurray (Block & Griffin, 2017). This paper will discuss the significant events and the current
issues in relation to Local 362.
Significant Events
The first significant event, which may be discussed is in relation to legislations and
statutes. In the year of 1914, the Ontario Workmen’s Compensation Act was enforced which was
considered to be the initial Canadian Model in relation to provincial legislation. As per this
legislation, a certain degree of injury is considered to be unavoidable for a worker, and
compensation must be given to the worker in relation to such inevitable injury. The other
provinces followed shortly (Gould, 2017).
The second significant event, which may be discussed is in relation to the ‘The Teamster
Disaster Relief Fund’. The relief fund mentioned above is considered to be a charity, which was
