INTRODUCTION
Child labour can be defined as work that deprives children from their childhood by
forcing them to perform specific task or activities that are harmful for their mental and physical
development. In another words, a child need to work in physical, mental, social and morally
dangerous environment that cause harm to them. So, this report has discussed about the argument
pertaining to for and against banning all forms of child labour in supply chain.
MAIN BODY
Argument for and against banning all form of child labour in Supply chain
Child labour is one of the biggest issues that resulted in forcing children to perform
activities or do labouring rather than going to school in order to enhance their skills, knowledge
and capabilities. Around 168 millions of children are affected by child labouring in supply chain
across worldwide. At the same time it has been identified that around one in ten children take
part in child labour. The government of developing countries have limited resources,
infrastructure thus they are not able to implemented child labour laws and health or safety
regulation effectively (Redelinghuys, 2018). Child labour is performed mainly in export oriented
industries such as leather tanning, garments, footwear, glass manufacturing and gems stones.
Many of the companies operating in these industries enforce child labour in their supply chains
with an motivate to reduce overall cost.
There are many reason that clearly states that child labouring need to be reduce in supply
chain so that child can get opportunities to get educated and have healthy, better lifestyles.
Rather than working in dangerous environment in order to complete the work for getting specify
amount of money. Likewise children belong to school rather than workplace as child labour in
supply chain deprive children to go school and do work which results in reinforces
intergeneration poverty cycle. Thereby it is potential threat to growth and development of
national economic because of denial of education and forcing to work at place that may cause
mental and physical health issue (Baruah, 2018). Child trafficking is link to child labour which
always resulted in abusing the child in mental, physical, emotional and sexual form. Such type of
children are either unpaid for their labour or pay cheap amount for doing various work in supply
chain of company. Thus it causes mental harm, stress to children or adversely impacting on its
health and well being in long run.
