Introduction
The local area network (LAN) can be used in the business for connecting the different
departments and floors of the organization as this will cover the small geographical area of the
organization. This report will cover the scenario of Footfall Field Marketing Ltd organization as
they want to connect their three separate floors in one building. This report will include the
discussion about the local area network in which LAN technologies will also be included. This
report will design the local area network for the organization along with the configuration of the
network devices. The report will also cover the testing of the designed network and after that its
maintenance will also be covered in this report. The report will also focus on the performance
and effectiveness of the network in the organization for their users.

Task 1
1.1 Critically evaluate different LAN technologies
LAN (Local area network) is mainly used for connecting the small geographical area which is
related to the organization with the help of cable connection. This LAN connection can be done
by implementing wireless connection by using the server link as this will make the data sharing
easy for the organization. There are various types of LAN technologies that are used by
organization while connecting their network. Following are the various types of LAN
technologies:
IEEE 802 standard: This LAN technology mainly deals in the MAN network metropolitan area
network and LAN (Local area network). This technology is effective for the organization as it
provides access method, high speed, media and topologies. Variable size packets in the network
have some sort of restrictions (Gong et al, 2015).
VTP: This network also known as the VLAN as the tracking protocol which is basically refer to
the Cisco proprietary protocol. Within the LAN technology VLAN information can be taken
with the VTP domain. This technology also helps to describe the VLAN in the Wide Area
Network (WAN). This is configured between the two layers of the networks. This will carry the
three versions.

DHCP: This term defines as the dynamic host configuration protocol that is the server protocol
which automatically provides the IP address with the IP host that mention the default gateway
and subnet mask (Otto et al, 2015). The main advantage of DHCP is that this will provide
TCP/IP model configuration to the clients in their network and this will also reduce or overcome
the administrative department workload.

FDDI: This term refers to the Fibre distributed data interface and this is mainly used by the
organization as this is the backbone of the LAN and through this organization can achieve the
100mbps speed within their network.

Token ring: This is the technology that is used in the network to gain the networking system but
this not wide. This can be used by the organization to expand or enhance their resource
utilization and performance level (Wang et al, 2016).

1.2 Critically analysis traffic intensive services and their performance
Within the intensive service, there are mainly two types of things that include the bandwidth and
internet. These types of services will help organization for reducing their problems within the
network. There are some of the traffic intensive services and their performance which are
discussed as below:
DSCP: DSCP refers to the differentiated service code point that is basically a type of the internet
work protocol. This will mainly provide the type of service layer that helps various devices for
getting the connection in the network. This service used by the organization for defining the IP
header field. There are mainly 8 type of the field within with upper 6 bit which contain the value
and that is known as the DSCP.
QOS (Quality of services): Quality of services is mainly used for measuring the performance of
the telephone signals and internet signals (Gupta et al, 2015). Users in the network use these
qualities of services for evaluating the performance in the network for buying some of the
specific purpose. In the network when user check the QOS (Quality of services) then there are
some of the factors which consider the some errors, transmission delay, network availability and
jitters. Within these services the video streaming services that are demanded with some of the
online services which important for the good quality of the services. On the other side, audio
streaming services are also used for listen the information.
IP precedence: This service is available in the IP header that is mainly defines the RFC 791.
This type of services performed by the network services control and shows that if the precedence
values are high then IP packets have the high priority (Belhaouane et al, 2015).
With the help of the above discussion it will become clear that the organization will use these
types of services for achieving traffic intensive services with the resources proper use, quality of
bandwidth and the proper management of the services. These traffic intensive services are also
required in the network for achieving the communication flexibility.

1.3 Discuss LAN concerns and make recommendations to sustain network security, performance
and reliability
The LAN (Local area network) is mainly used by the organization like Footfall Field Marketing
Ltd for connecting their main servers with the same segments for effective communication but
this will despite to the access control on firewall. On the other side, firewall is mainly used for
connecting the number of devices on the DMZ because through this they can get the security
within the network will be achieved. Data is also protected with the help of the firewall in the
network. There are some of the securities in the local area network that are required by the
organization to protect the network:
ACL (Access control list): This is the security system that will be used in the organization to
access the control over the entries of the accessibility within the network because through this
network can be secured and protected. Within this type of security system the users will be
restricted to access the information without having permission of the authorized user. This will
protect the network and its information from the unauthorized users. SACL and DACL are the
two types of access control lists (Sama et al, 2015).
Security issues: Security issues are required by the organization for protecting the switches and
routers local configuration from the mainly unwanted access and manipulations. On the other
side, all the network devices within the network need equal type of the security for accessing the
data prevention from the loss and theft. For providing the network security it is suggested to
configure defaults and security in the network. For the organization it is also recommended that
for managing the data they need to use centralized devices as this will improve the security of the
data in the organization.
Switch port control: This security system is important for the organization as this will protect
and secure the local area network because this can be used for controlling and also to limit the
addresses to find (Porras et al, 2015). This will be allowed for sending the traffic in switches
ports in the network. The organization Footfall Field marketing if use this security system then it
is essential for them to provide the configuration of the switches for the security purpose.

2.1 Design a LAN infrastructure to meet the organization requirements
The organization Footfall field marketing can implement the local area network (LAN) for their
networking system. The LAN implementation at the workplace is required for connecting the
three separate floors of the buildings. This local area network is design by preparing the
following type of the specific requirements and suitability so that they can effectively implement
the technology at their premises:

Technologies in the networking system
Within the designed networking system there are different types of the technologies. The
organization Footfall field marketing can use the Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) in
their networking system as this will help them to address the devices in each floor easily and that
will help them to remove or add more devices in the network. Switches are also used for
grouping the designed VLAN or VTP within that STP is also implemented. This will also avoid
the loops of the packages in the routing. The organization will also use the hybrid topology
within the LAN which connects the devices in the network (Goswami and Asadollahi, 2018).

Routers are also used to send the packages in the network from one system to another. Devices in
the system are used to route the packages to the end devices with the security and encryption.
The traffic intensive services in the network are the prioritized for attaining the quality of
services and performance (Palkar et al, 2015). Some of the rules are also established for the data
sharing and communication between the users so that user requirements will be achieved such
as- computer management in the network from other network devices.

2.2 Suitability of LAN components
The designed local area network design for the organization has used number of devices and the
technologies for meeting the expected needs and demands of the users. The type of used
technology and effective tools should perform as per the defined requirements for delivering the
satisfied services to the users.
Switches: In the network switches are also used in the network for segmenting the different
groups of the devices. For example: for the management of the organization they want to access
the network devices in the network for their data and information but other type of the network
devices not able to access the components of the network. Used switches in the network are
effective to attain the isolation within the network and devices segmentation for the effective and
quick maintenance (Kim and Feamster, 2013).

Routers: Organization require to use the routers as per their abilities and capabilities for
addressing the network devices so that three separate floors can easy get connectivity with the
internet connection. Routers are needed in the network for extending their network in the next

floor along with the devices. One of the routers is required to connect the devices with the
internet services provider.

Firewall: Configuration or implementation of the networking system is not the only task which
is performed by the organization but it is also important for the organization to manage the
network security (Paek et al, 2017). LAN of the organization need the security of the data against
the invalid request and attacks in the server and for this firewall configuration is required.

Technology: In the network, DHCP technology is used for addressing the devices of the network
within the range without the external efforts for all the types of the devices. In addition to this,
VLAN technology is also used for offering the communication among the three floors of the
organization. STP technology is also used for improving the performance in the packages of the
routing and the resources utilization (Peng, 2012).

Storage: In the network, the external storage is used for taking the backup of the data after the
fixing time of the external. It is also essential to retrieve data when the devices are failed during
communication or lost the data due to the attacks.

3.1 build and configure a LAN
LAN connectivity in the network for the organization such as Footfall field marketing need to go
through the certain following type of the process for installing and configuring the network
devices so that they can attain the effective networking system:
Switches configuration
Switches in this networking system are mainly used for grouping all the devices so that sharing
of data can easy. The configuration of switches with the desired set of the IP address and the
various parameters are used for meeting the requirements of the VLAN network and
segmentation. In the STP is also configured for using the devices.
Router configuration
The configuration of the default routers need to be modified as per the vulnerable attacks in the
network. The organization also configure the router for the interface, device configuration and IP
address which are related to the routing protocols and password encryption.
Firewall configuration
Firewall configuration in the designed networking system is required to filter the not required or
unwanted requests of the users for accessing the resources of the network. Firewall is also
required to constraints the network users for the communication with the other users and also to
identify the actions and malicious code in the network packages.
Technology configuration
For configuration of technology they can implement the DHCP technology which is used for
addressing the network devices which are enforced with the help of the specific steps of the
configuration.
Bandwidth aggression: This technology is also required for allocating the equal bandwidth to
the network devices and also constraints the accessibility of the bandwidth. This will be
configuration with the help of commands that can be used for the bandwidth aggression.

VLAN is configured on the switches for communicating with the other type of local area
network. There are various types of the commands which can be used for selecting the database
and the VLAN for network device configuration.

mainly based on end devices to the recognized user.

3.3 Evaluation and testing of network
The organization Foot-Fall, need the local area network design and its implementation for
supporting the sharing and communication between the three separate floors of the organization.
The organization requires proper and effective system so that they can provide communication
flexibility to the managers and they can share the data and information to other departments. The
finance and sales departments of this organization need to get connected with the computer
systems with the effective isolation of all the devices and effective use of the bandwidth and the
features of the network and its devices security (Comer 2015).
The organization uses the network routers for expanding capabilities of their network to the end
devices and the packages of the routers between the various types of the devices with the
effective security and encryption. On the other side, the switches are also used for segmenting
the devices as per the three floors departments through which their operations will be isolated
from the other network devices. The physical connection in the network is used mainly for the
critical transactions and wireless connection is also offered for accessing the network and its
devices with the help of the wireless access points (Gratton, 2013).
The hybrid technology used for this network will increases the cost of this network in the cabling
but this will also support the network with the high availability of the data. This type of network
can also use the alternative path for addressing the devices in the network. Effective and proper
utilization of the access control list and firewall for implementing security in the network.

 The physical security in the network related to the end devices need to be considered by
the organization so that they can contain the confidential data and then access that data as
the part of the effective communication.
 They need to update the configured network in the tables and also update the access
control list on regular basis for any new devices and also regularly change the permission
for the security (Bonald and Feuillet, 2013).
 For the improvement it is also recommended to the organization that they can use the
latest type of the technology in the switching and routing of the data packages for

network devices with the effective use of the technology and resources.
 The organization also needs to be ensuring about the critical information and financial
which has to be transferred with the secured network channels such as- Ethernet
connections apart from the open and wireless connections.

4.1 Monitoring of LAN
The development of the Local area networking is done with the help of various qualitative
services and features which are managed with the help of various monitoring services in a given
time duration. In order to increase the reliability of such services, the monitoring becomes very
much important and enhanced.
Also, with the help of traffic analysis services, the safety can be highly reliable along with the
analysis of the user access.
Tools
Microsoft network monitor:
The Microsoft network monitoring tool introduced by Microsoft is developed with an idea to
keep the diagnosis of the network intact and to support the monitoring as well as the performance
standards. This not only helps in the generation of reports that are enhanced but also activated
the network transmission along with performance of the devices.
GFI LAN Guard:
The GFI LAN guard tool is generally known as the third-party tool used for commercial
purposes in order to monitor the utilisation and performance of the bandwidth along with the
analysis of its performance and configuration requirements.
Also, in order to centralise the configuration management the availability of network
management is also ensured by the tool (Kim and Feamster, 2013).
Along with that the important functions like the data encryption services as well as the important
changes in the configuration to make it stronger and secure the services like verified password
access for the management and hence developing the performance can be appreciated.
User access

The user access allows the users to look-up the information along with the files and resources
and their management. The devices that the management possesses in order to provide the
managers with the access so that they can analyse and discover the problems and the user access
also denies the access to all those who do not have a password which makes it a better and secure
way of accessing the files and management information.
Traffic and bandwidth analysis
The traffic and bandwidth analysis enable the user to analyse and formulate various strategies
and control mechanisms in order to ensure the proper and optimum utilisation of the resources
(Johanssonand Mattson, 2015).
Check configuration
In order to increase the safety features during the configuration of the software the network
devices are checked for the configuration and with the help of customisable settings the default
and faulty configuration can be avoided.
Checking rules
In order to keep the access of the device along with the files and information safer the
management has to organize and keep the rules under check in order to keep the control in hand
and make necessary changes in the rules in accordance to the requirement.
The demand also impacts the formulation of new and better rules which is attained with the help
of effective and enhances communication along with the service devices that are used in day to
day business operations.

4.2 Resolve LAN issues to improve security, reliability and performance
The LAN has been facing various problems in terms of the security and reliability along with the
performance in accordance with the standards that are set by the firm in order to analyse the
structures and make it more secure. We can analyse the following changes in order to avoid this
and improve the functioning and reliability of LAN:
Connection errors:
The connection errors in LAN are majorly seen and analysed because of the presence of the
failed local network devices. This can be so because of the lower capacity of the strings for
connection and because of which the performance is also not up to the marks and expectations.
The solution is to ensure a safe and reliable and more durable string connection and that of setup
which should not be around local users (Murray, 2013).
Degraded performance:
The degraded performance is seen because of the main reason of bus topology which leads to
more devices and improper utilisation of resources.
The solution to the same can be to limit the number of users n a single network and to ensure the
performance is not impacted by the number of devices.
Security:
The security can be ensured by improving the server storage and limiting the malicious
behaviour and number of users on the network (Jansen et al, 2013).

4.3 Performance of a LAN
The whole performance of the networking system is very effective for the organization as this
network has cover the various types of the switches, routers and devices for offering the
performance, reliability and security. In the requirement comparison the organization is mainly
use the high bandwidth so that the devices that can be used for sharing the information and data
so that communication between the users becomes easy. Switches are also used for segmenting
all the devices into the groups and distribute the bandwidth between the devices so that all the
devices must allocate with the equal bandwidth (Robertazzi, 2012). LAN use the access control
list for allowing the employees of the organization for performing the marketing and sales
departments operations so that they can effectively manage their performance and control the
traffic in the network.
The wired connection is also used for attaining the high performance as they are effective to
secure the end offers to the end network communication. On the other side, the wireless devices
are used to the backend devices in the network for the wireless devices. The organization uses
the monitoring tools for optimizing their performance and control the traffic in the network. The
performance of the network is empowered with the help of the usable topological, latest
protocols and effective technologies for setting the networking system (Bonald and Feuillet,
2013).

Conclusion
The above report is also about the implementation of the local area network in the Footfall Field
Marketing Ltd as they want to connect their three separate floors with each other. The report has
concluded that with the help of the local area network they can effective provide the
communication system between all the departments. With the above report, the well designed
network design for the organization is also provided. The report has also discussed about the
traffic intensive services and quality of services so that performance of the system can be
managed. The configuration of the network along with their testing is also conducted in this
report which concluded that the network is effective for the organization as all the results are
achieved. In the end of the report it is concluded that the network is effective to meet the
requirements of the users.
