INTRODUCTIONLeadership is art of motivating group of people to perform for achievement of commongoal. The concept of leadership in management is to direct workers and colleges with strategy tofulfil the need of company. Organization and co ordination of its activities to attain businessobjective is purpose of management. Tata Steel Group Ltd. a steel making company headquarterLondon. Corus group was formed by merging of Koninklijke Hoogovens along with British Steelin 1999. The report will address different roles and characters of leader as well as manager. Alsorole of leader and function of manager will be addressed in different situational context alongwith assessing of situational, system and contingency leadership theories. Further, approaches ofoperation management along with role of managers and leaders will be assessed along withimportance of operation management to achieve business objective. Finally, factors withbusiness environment affecting decision making and operation management by managers andleaders will be explained.LO1P1 Role and characteristics of a manager different from that of leader.According to Mahadevan, 2015 leadership is the ability to evaluate and forecast longterm plans and policies and influencing the followers towards achievement of desired strategy.According to Reid and Sanders, 2015 leader is inspiration and director of an action. Theindividual is person in group possesses combination of personality and skills for people to followhis leads.According to Hitt, Carnes and Xu, 2016 manager is a person charge of certain group oftasks or department of company. Both the managers and Leaders in Chorous areconcerned about the achievement of the final goal and Manager and Leaders both are responsiblein allocating the resource in such a way that they can be maximum utilized by the management(Reid and Sanders, 2015).Whereas in some case the managers and leaders are apart from each other like leaders areresponsible in creation of vision and managers are responsible in creating goals. Leaders in theorganization act as change agents whereas managers stick to their work and structure to bringbetterment and advancement to it(Reid and Sanders, 2015). Noted at time the leaders tend to beunique they develop the system and task according to their personality whereas managers adoptthe behaviour and working techniques of others and follow a decorum in the achievement if thetasks thus based on this behaviour it can be said that leaders are responsible for taking risks so asto try new things as they know that the risks leads an individual a step closer to success whereasmanagers tend to work on optimum risk as they consider several control measures at the time of
