Leadership and management both are important factors for any organisation but they are different from each other. The main difference between the two is that who can work for manager and arrange business activities in systematic process that is management on the other hand leader have people who can follow the guidelines and principles. Leadership is all about acquiring people to get the picture and faith in the vision to set out for an enterprises to obtain goals and objectives, while management mainly related to administrating and making sure about to routine activities are occurring as they should(Hallinger and Chen, 2015).. For example – A company wants to launch new product in the market that time manager can handle each business activities which is related to launching on the other side a leader guide to their promotional team that how to promote products in market and motivate them regarding to their work so both personality play their role in particular organisation. For example - Tesco plc are planning to open new stores on specific place that time all responsibilities come on manager. For open new store need to purchase land and invest money in stores so it will be done by effective team. The team guide by leader regarding to work because a leader know about every member and about their skills. every activities so he can be applied their rules for people. So as per the above example it is defined that leadership and management are different from each other and play their roles. 4) What You have learnt about leadership from your own experiences, on this course and elsewhere ? From the my point of view I can understand that leadership is the process where a leader influence to their team to work for particular task and achieve in effective manner. A leader can work any where like school, workplace etc. for example – In my school in each class appoint monitor who can play role leader and motivate to employees to keep silence and do their work according to situation. Many times it is considering as complex procedure because it is not easy to tackle many peoples at same time. The complexity can reflect in the evolution of leadership theory over the past 80 years. When I was in college that time professor select me as a leader for cultural function. I can face many problems regarding to my work and it is not easy to tackle all team members on that time(Jefferies and et.al., 2016). I can identify different leadership approaches which can help to understand leadership in effective manner.Participative leadership– In this type leadership a leader can not take decision on individual basis. He can invite to every people of team and take meetings and discuss about the issues. When everyone agree with particular decision then leader can take particular decision. Advantage- It will affect as positive manner because other team member learn how can take decision and get motivation. Disadvantage– The disadvantage of this approach that it can take much more time so as a result many time decision making process will be delayed.Transformational Leadership– The particular theory mention that teams can identify needed change, develop a vision to direct the people regarding to change with the help of inspiration. There are applying changes through motivate to people and implement the plan in tandem with committed members of group. Advantage– The advantage of this type leadership approach that it is important part of integral activities. With the help of this theory set vision and try to achieve in effective manner. Disadvantage– The main disadvantage that on the set time can not take right decision as per the lack of resources. 7
Situational Leadership– According to this approach a leader can take appropriate step as per the demand of the situation. If according to critical situation company have not particular strategy and policies that time apply this approach which can help to handle issues in effective manner. Advantage– The main advantage of this situation that leader can handle any type situation as per the demand and apply effective strategies to sort out problem. Disadvantage– The Disadvantage of this approach thatTransactional Leadership– The transactional style of leadership use by managers where consider of motivation and direction to followers primarily with the help of primarily appealing to their own self interest. According to this approach a leader can believe of the system of reward as well as punishment. If a junior desired any thing and follow the rules that time he does not go as per the wishes of the leader. Advantage– Employees motivated through reward system and their superiors have to obey with the orders(Jeon and et.al., 2015). Disadvantage– Many times employees can not self motivated and they have to closely monitor different activities and control to work from them. From this report I have learned so many thing from this MODULE. As it helped to enhance my knowledge about various theory like trait theory, situational approach, Katz skill leadership and relational theory. These theories help me to know about which leadership theory is good for motivating the employees. This MODULE is very helpful for me that states that how leaders help to complete targets with the help of employees. Transactional theory help managers to motivate and provide right direction to employees that help to achieve goals. 8
