INTRODUCTION
Leadership is an ability of individual to manage various individual and people within
organisation so that best outcome can be gained. Leaders use various styles of leadership to
influence individual to work for better growth and success of enterprise. This report is about an
case study of “The Dag- Bruken ASRS case” which stated that various challenges are faced by
project manager in effective leadership and management. Therefore it discuss about various key
issues in managing people and the way leadership can be used to improve performance of team
member. It also evaluates various factors that impact on quality of project or engineering activity
and impact of leadership styles in quality issues in The Dag Bruken ASRS project.
Key Issues That were Faced by Operational Manager in Managing People
Various issues were faced by operational manager of The Dag Bruken ASRS project such
as ineffective management of people, communication and poor working environment which had
lead to poor performance and failure of project. Manager of company does not have various
skills and knowledge that lead different challenges for itself to manage different people within
organisation. Absence of various skills such as effective communication thus team member were
unable to understand views, ideas of other individual which leads to failure of project.
Fragmentation of team member also leads to ineffective cooperation and coordination between
various individual towards particular goals of company (Swanigan, 2017). Communication
between employees ceased when manager of when groups are required to take separate breaks
thus in effective management of people has lead to failure of project. Another issue that was
faced by operation manager is that employees were dissatisfied with DB policy change and
appointment of part time academic as they were paid higher hourly rates. At the same time full
staff does not have excess to claim for extra payment for over time than normal hours such
leadership styles of operation manager has create barrier in effective management of people and
completion of particular project (George and et.al., 2016). Another issue development team has
never work together as unified and synergistic unit so they work heterogeneously. Poor
management and leadership skill of operational manager of The Dag Bruken ASRS project such
as MD has skills to develop new and creating ideas concept but does not have abilities to
influence other to work in similar manner so that desired goals can be achieved. Another issue
of ineffective managements is that MD was not able to separate roles and responsibilities of each

individual so it leads to lot of confusion among staff member, supplier and client thus making
project failure (Inayah and Balqiah, 2017). Company pressurise its full time employees to for
extra work and pay less amount of compensation will has lead to dissatisfaction and loyalty of
employees towards firm. Therefore two DB contractors are approached by client to consult for
a day so independent contractor provide crucial and inside information of firm to client because
they have paid extra amount. It lead to cancel or termination of DB contract and impacted
adversely on company cash flow, stakeholder confidence and credibility of firm. Management
was unaware about all such activities so in effective management of people have lead to cancel
of contract and failure of project. Operational management has used autocratic style of
management thus it would never encourages ideas, view, opinion of different employees that are
working within firm thus reduce their motivation level and sense of belongingness
(Sirisomboonsuk and et.al., 2018). Manager has dictatorial attitude which impact on motivational
level and performance of individual to put their best for growth and success of The Dag Bruken
ASRS project. Manager of project was not able to monitor and track performance of individual at
the same time not able to clearly assigned roles and responsibilities to each which lead to
communication and conflict regarding task to be performed. General Manager has no experience
in IT project management so assignment of such role within organisation has impact on success
of project (Love, 2016). Therefore all such issue were faced by general manager in effective
management of people for completion and succession of The Dag Bruken ASRS project.
The way leadership can be used for effective management of people
Various methods should be used by operational manager of The Dag Bruken ASRS project
to improve performance and productivities of employees so that company can gain maximum
output. Such as it should uses democratic styles of leadership to enhance motivation level and
morale of different individual that are working within firm. Operational manager by encouraging
views, idea and opinion of other people can develop feeling of belongingness and motivate
employees to work hard so that next time project can be made successful (Cullen and Leavy,
2017). It also helps in retention of employees and loyalty thus no crucial information of project
can be shared to other people which will lead to cancellation of project. Operational manager of
The Dag Bruken ASRS project needs to use different leadership styles in order to manage people
such as democratic styles of management. Democratic styles of leadership helps in motivating
employees to put their best as it create feeling of belongingness among existing employees.

Various soft skills also need to be improved within operational manager of company in order to
build strong relationship with people. Interpersonal skills and ability to influence other people
have manager to coordinate and cooperate work of different individual towards common goals of
The Dag Bruken ASRS project. Manager need to reward and recognise effort of various
individual by use of innovative method such as social media. Provide equal opportunities and
compensation to employees to reduce feeling of discrimination among employees at the same
time should rewards employees that have work hard (Marchewka, 2016). Extra payment to
employees that have work hard will induce individual to put their best so that project can be
made successful and company can get competitive advantages. At last manager need to provide
good working environment, clearly state roles and responsibilities of each employees and enough
break time so that they can easily communicate and coordinate or satisfy their social needs.
Therefore, all such steps will helps operation manager to effective manage team work and
member of team to make project successful and effective so that company can earn grow and
survive within industry.
Key factors that impact on quality of project or engineering activity
Various factors that have impacted on quality of project or engineering activities is
ineffective leadership style and organisational structure which has lead to deal of various
function and activities. Employees were given responsibilities that they have never performed
such as GM has background in civil engineering project management despite of that it was
assigned to IT project management. So less skill, knowledge of individual to perform specific
function has lead to ineffective performance of activities and resulted in failure of project. No
employees have skill, experience and knowledge of types of IT development that adversely
impacted on quality of products manufactured by company. In effective communication and
performance of employees has lead to poor quality of products and rejection of project by the
clients (Dulebohn and Murray, 2019). There were some of the serious technical limitations in use
of combination of Fox Pro combined database and front end with visual C++. After analysis of
three month about development of communication module and initial design of traffic control is
more difficult than initial anticipated. Such issue in quality of products has occurred due to
ineffective management of people and assigned of incorrect position to individual to perform
specific task and responsibilities. Less availability of resource and various technologies, good
working environment also impacted on quality of The Dag Bruken ASRS project. Operation

management does not formally inspect various process and activities performed by different
individual within organisation that has affected adversely on quality of project thus
dissatisfaction among clients. All the decision were taken by operation manager that has reduced
employees capabilities and morale to work effective to make project successful thus impact on
quality of project and engineering activities. No formal testing plans were designed by manager
through the development project and when it get time it conduct test of their own work. Third
party is not involved in inspection or testing of work and it were checked by self generate or not
carried out. There are several problem with software review such as review were not planned and
prepared, participants of project don’t understand the review process and review focus on style
rather than substance. Another reason for in effective delivery of quality product is strained
relationship between management of DS and SCT thus they have less trust between each others
(Rehacek, 2017). Thus conflicts between both have resulted in refusal to provide various
information’s to client without formula documents thus delay in manufacturing of products and
competition of activities. Language of PLC coding was difficult and sophisticated to work this
was because combination of individual components made the software components very
awkward and hard to develop. Therefore it can be stated that lack of design documents,
specialisation function and formal documentation has affected quality of project.
Factors which majorly affect the performance of the organisation were the majorly
conflicts and aggressive behaviour of employees towards company due to inappropriate
behaviour of the leader. This also increases the employee turnover which also impacts the cost of
product negatively. Project also does not have potential leader who can influence their team
members to achieve objectives of the project effectively (Kerzner, 2017). Deadline also helps to
analyse all the factors in the project and manage them effectively. it is very essential methods to
reduce the project resource wastage and allocates all the potential resources to achieve objectives
and increase the sales effectively. due to unavailability of MD in the project the objectives of the
business also suffered and it also reduces the project quality. SCT demands inventory
management system with effective technology according to market trends to increase the
potential of the business effectively. there are also many factors like lack of proper formulation
of policies resulted in the efficiency of the company to achieve its objectives. There is a lot of
negative impact which the leader is creating in the organization because of lack of experience in
handling the employees of the organization. It is very important for the leaders to have a strong

command on the employees but that is only possible when the leader has a strategy which they
can follow in the organization. Planning a strategy in the organization gets in an effective
functioning and a better productivity (Latif and et al., 2020). There are a lot of policies in the
organization which have to be implemented effectively so that the employees feel motivated in
the organization but that is missing in the organization because the leader is not being able to
function effectively him. The leaders are the role models of the employees but in this case the
employees are not being able to follow anyone because they are not having a strong leader over
them. The employees are also not being able to meet the expectations of the organization because
they are not being motivated or having a clear communication or transparency in the
organization from the leader’s side which is very important. Leader has to improve himself only
then he will be able to take care of the employees which are working under him which can be
done by first making an effective strategy which is going to make the company have a better
functioning. Then have a communication in the organization so that there is an effective
functioning which is a very essential factor. The company will have to train the leader first so
that he can function effectively in the organization only then the employees will get the best in
the company. The operation and the productivity in the organization is going to get effective
when the company is going to have a solid plan for themselves.
Impact of Leadership Style and Team Performance
It is very essential for Dag Brucken to understand the importance of leadership traits and
characteristic which helps to develop effective leader. Case study provides information about
autocratic leadership style as this styles meant that no other employees has the right to participate
in the decision making process other than the leader itself. This also reduces the opportunity of
the project to gain better information and innovative ideas from employees. This also impacts
the performance of team to achieve project objectives. Team leader is not efficient in providing
effective information and guidance to their team members which also increases the employees
turnover. Implementing autocratic leadership styles also impact the performance as it is very
essential for employees to increase the social interaction with one other to reduce the mental
stress and also relax for some time (Grisham, 2019). Dag Brucken has also restricted the
communication and human interaction of the employees which increases the agitation and
isolation in the organisation. It is very essential for leader to develop effective information and
also understand d techniques and methods to implements that knowledge and skills to increase

motivation level of employees and provide them healthy working environment effectively. there
are many factors helps to develop effective leadership qualities and motivate and influence their
employees in the organisation effectively. Innovation is the process which tackles place in the
freedom to think and in this case the leaders are not allowing their employees to make any
decisions. This is also reducing the efficiency of the team to achieve their objectives effectively
(Gemünden, Lehner and Kock, 2018).
However, ASRS project is based on the technology and technology changes rapidly.
Project also needs to adopt change management to increase the efficiency and attain high
performance team gradually to compete in the market. Autocratic leadership style helps
organisation to control all the movement and provides all the decision control to leader to
efficiently adopt new changes according to the market trends. As IT managers also requires
skills and knowledge which is not available to achieve the change management. Leaders have the
efficient knowledge to increase the quality and actions to gain higher productivity to increase
profit margins effectively. Change management of technology also helps ASRS project to gain
more information and helps to delegate authorities to other potential employees who also has
skills and knowledge to achieve the objectives effectively. it is also very important for leader to
learn management skills to provide effective managerial functions and develop effective policies
which can be followed by the managers effectively. It managers has the potential to understand
all the instructions which are taken by the leader (Nicholas and Steyn, 2017). Nonetheless, leader
does not has the potential skills communicate and influence their employees to achieve their
objectives effectively. motivation is very essential in any organisation to in increase the
performance of the project and improve the efficiency effectively. Leadership style portrays
potential skills and knowledge which needs to be integrated according to needs and wants of the
customers effectively.
Leader was also not effective in providing g potential information in the team which
impacted the performance gradually. Increase in the employee’s turnover also reduces the cost of
the organisation and impacted the quality of vision. Dag Brucken was not able to develop
effective understanding about all the cultural value, behaviour, and attitudes of employees to
develop vision, mission and objectives of the project team. This also reduces the efficiency to
achieve the project effectively (Ahmed and Anantatmula, 2017). It also affect the employee
morale and decision making efficiency. Due to lack of proper information employees and leaders

are not able to communicate in the organisation which is also increases the communication gap
rapidly. Increase in the competition has increases the employment opportunity for the team
members which have potential skills. This reduces the talents from the company. Leader also
needs to adopt motivation techniques to increase the performance of the team and develop
effective management strategies to improve the structure and redefine all the roles and
responsibilities according the potential skills and knowledge of employees. This will helps to
company to increase the potential and attract more talented employees from the market
effectively. company also needs to develop effective technology which helps to analyse the
current market trends and also increase the quality of system with the help of effective
leadership. This also impacted the brand value of the company and due to autocratic leadership
style it reduces the credibility of Dag Brucken in the SCT ASRS project. This also impacted the
team performance as after develop system the company was not able to provide all the proper
information to SCT company in time which also reduced the goodwill in the market (Lai, Hsu
and Li, 2018). It is also very essential for the business to develop new information system which
helps to increase the quality of inventory management of the client and also helps to increase the
brand image in the market to attract more large clients effectively.
CONCLUSION
This report concludes that it is very essential for any business to understand the internal
and external factors of the business environment and nature of business to adopt effective
leadership style. it is also very essential for company to change the leadership style according to
situation to increase the efficacy of the business and gain better profitability. Leaders need to
have proper managerial skills and knowledge to increase the performance of the employees in
the organization and also understand all the factors which impact the quality and develop
potential strategies to overcome all the factors effectively. Report discussed about different
issues which occurs due to lack of proper leadership in an organization which also reduces the
team performance and impacts the communication channel throughout the organization. It was
also analysed that continuously change in the IT industry is very essential to adopt change
management and increase the potential of ASRS project and achieve core competency in the
market effectively.
