Introduction
This reflective assignment shall provide an overview regarding how effective leadership has
impacted on the success of Quality Management in Medtronics. The actions and decisions made
and the different qualities of the leaders associated with the success factor shall be described here
in detail. Further improvements shall also be suggested in the final part.
Discussion
I have been performing in the product development and innovation team of Medtronics. The
leader present in our group helps in guiding and training us to make advanced medical
equipment for our customers. The effective kind of leadership has boosted the daily activities,
ensured better communication and innovation among us. During the past few months, due to
effective leadership, the production rate of medical equipment has risen by 30% (Medtronic plc,
2018). The overall costs of production such as employee turnover could be cuddled by 5%, still
making room for further improvements to be brought forth (Atherton and Kleiner, 2018). The
profit earnings ratio has come to a level of 41.49% (Medtronic plc, 2018). Innovation has
developed as compared to the last 2 years and the development of new products for the markets
has increased due to effective leadership. With better leadership in our group, defects in existing
products can be easily found now, however, due to poor surveillance and old technology has
plagued the recall and repair activities (Mohiuddin and Hossain, 2016). This dampens the
reputation of the company.
Conclusion
Some improvement measures can be suggested here:
● Leaders have to better trained by management body so that they may devise new ways to
reduce the costs implications: employee turnover and redundancies. This training shall
not require extra financial costs as it is the responsibility of management to perform so
and it can be done within 30 days.
● Leaders should be equipped with better surveillance and performance evaluation software
and tools so that they may guide and help the staffs in the best possible manner
(anticipated benefit: increased productivity).
Anticipated benefits for the organization:
● Time: Better trained leaders equipped with better surveillance tools shall play a role in
guiding the staffs and enable them to finish a given task within the shortest range of time.
