INTRODUCTION
Leadership is referred as the ability of group of individuals to guide and influence the
followers and other members in group of team of organization. The crisis leadership is the
activity of responding to a business challenges as well as preventing them from happen in the
future. There are main reasons of the leadership crisis such as shortage in the leadership skills
and ability and growth complexity. This report will discuss the characteristic of Shackleton
leadership style and learnt form the leadership styles in the context of contemporary business
organization in crisis. This report will also elaborate the organizational situation by drawing on
the schools of leadership as revel recommend for improvements in performance.
TASK
1. Shackleton's leadership characteristics
He was the great leaders, and he had the most essential characteristics in the leadership
styles for become the prefect leaders. It the cautious leaders. The characteristics include the
motivation, optimistic and back breaking, freezing cold, journey across the Atlantic ocean. The
Shackleton characterize that the leaders should be motivated because it is the start of journey. It
helps the individual willing to do something and general desire which are required to fulfil the
goal and objectives (Gutmann, 2018). Keeping motivated to others helps in achieve the setting
goals and it helps in achieve the all members expedition. He was use the language of motivation.
He was the cautious leader man who never ask anyone regarding the anything. He was good at
performance and improvisation because he was not afraid about the throw away the rulebook id f
they are not working as well as he was a man for tight spot, in other words, handle the difficult
and dangerous situations. He was blessed in the people management. He was great in the
instinctive leadership styles, the instinctive leaders is admitted their mistakes because they are
quick to take responsibilities, and they desperate in built the organizational culture. The mistakes
are simply challenges for them to overcome, and they not found the opportunities to blame
someone else and points figures. The strong leaders have the good instincts and the Shackleton
were had the good instinct because he was confident in their decision-making abilities.
As a leader, Shackleton was the optimistic and positive leader because he cannot let the
worries, anxiety, sadness and anger which take made and crumble anything. The optimistic
leaders have the confidence and hopefulness regarding the successful outcomes and about the
future which are most important to manage the group of people. With the optimistic attitudes,

the leaders can achieve the positive outcomes, and they focus on the action and current situations
and get themselves in the business beyond the current crisis. The Shackleton leaders is the crisis
leaders all the time as well as believe in the future vision (Gallo, 2022). He was also trait as the
positive leaders that includes the support for the group of member's, self controlled, confidence,
empowering, caring, encourage teams and genuine person.
Shackleton leader not follow the protocol of the time, and he was leading of his time
period. He broke the strictly hierarchy on the ship by everyone pitches to do all the work and
ship. They also listen to other concerns and resolve the problems of groups of members.
Shackleton was the sticklers of structure because they respond comfortable on the daily routine,
was valued and contribution in the play and work. Shackleton was natural at the social side of
things because he lovers conversation, poetry and singsong and relaxed with the team at the time
of meal.
He was constantly planning about achieve the goals and was working with the
contingencies. He was very good at listening because he listens the concerns and doubts of teams
and solve member's issues and problems (Shackleton, 2020). He was good in keep to men spirits,
and he was encourages the games, singing ans skits in the evening because it helps in build a
high performing teams and encourage the interest levels of employees. He had an open door
policy and It refers as the practice of business leaders with leaving the company door opens so,
employees can feel the welcomed, and they ask question as well as meet informally to
Shackleton. It was helps in attract the more employees in group and desire to become a member
of group as well as it helps in enhance the retentions rate of employees.
Learnt in the context of contemporary business organizations in a crisis
 Finds things to enjoy: The celebration are most important in organization for the
stressless environmental condition in business as well as company must establish the
sense of sharing ability from starting just as Shackleton. The sense of team unity which
must be strategy with the cheerful social events in business before the works because it
helps in grow the adventures continuous as well as helps in tackle the business with
organizational cultures. The celebration helps in remain together team and their works at
the time of organization crisis.
 Create culture: If the business organization in crisis, the leaders need to create the better
culture environments where they help each other and caring as well as self-sacrificing for

others (Cheng and Shen, 2020). With the positive organizational culture, they can handle
and manage the crisis in organization as well as able to make decision as regarding the
problems. For the positive environment, leader can motivate the team members and use
the language of motivation for influence the group to accomplish the task and project at
the given periods of time. The leaders should show the caring behaviour and build bond
of team work just as the Shackleton leader.
 Diffuse conflicts: At the time of organization crisis, the leaders should diffuse the
conflict which are most important for the organization condition because it helps in create
the mutual respects between the team members and leaders. Leaders must remind to the
crew members about the respects and maintain the sense of civility.
2. Leadership style of Tesco organization
The chosen organization is Tesco. It is the largest retailing company in UK with the
British multinational groceries in United Kingdom. Tesco company is adopted the democratic
leadership style in organization and it is known as the participative leadership. This leadership
style is included the employees in decision of business. The leaders of company present the
problems on front of employees and get the creative suggestion from the entire team as well as
they establish the official courses of action (Akpoviroro, Kadiri and Owotutu, 2018). It is the
most effective leadership style which are adapted by the Tesco because it helps in achieve the
long term ideas and goals for the company as well as company get the benefits from this style
with the inspiration and creativity. This style helps in boost the employees engagements,
retention rate and morale.
It also helps in build the confidence and trust in the company leadership. It represents the
foster creativity. This leadership style helps in motivate employees and extract better perform,ace
from employees and it helps in achieve the business objectives effectively and efficiently. This
leadership style of company is contrast from authoritative leadership style because in this
leadership style the whole decision are depended on the leaders. The participative leadership
style is included the various characteristic which have the company leaders such as
communication skills, curiosity, broad mindedness, good listening and ability to empower
workers (Chan, 2019).

But the company face some disadvantage of democratic leadership style that the process
of decision-making is taking so long time. Conducting and sharing information with the
employees are also takes a long time. The leaders and managers depend on the group and team
dynamic and theta create the productive debate which are face by the company and it impacts on
the productivity as well as culture of organization (Joyami and Salmani, 2019). The conflicts are
also occurred in organization due to the decision-making process and it directly impacts on the
reputation of organization. That's why business face some difficulties in democratic leadership
styles.
RECOMMENDATION
If company use the democratic leadership style, then they should take individual ideas of
employees as regarding the decision-making in organization. They should listen to the
employees and create a cohesive decision-making regarding the business as well as they must
hide the every individual employees decisions because it helps in diffuse the conflicts between
the employees. The company should conduct the survey for employees regarding the employees
satisfactions, and they must listen to results as well (Batool, Arif and Nadeem, 2021). They
should improve the process of decision-making and message covey because it takes a lot of time
so, they improve process helps in decrease the wastages of time and lack of message as well as it
helps in reduce the errors. The company should push the employees to develop in the career
enhancements within the organization as well as they provide opportunities to employees for
identify the areas of improvements.
CONCLUSION
As the conclusion, the leadership crisis in the organization, so the leaders should give a
clear direction, focus on employees, be trans parents with employees that all helps in manage the
leadership style just according to the Shackleton leader. He was the best leader. In the
conclusion, this report discussed characterize of Shackleton leadership style and described the
learning outcomes form them contemporary management issues. This report also elaborated the
Tesco leadership style and recommended some improvements in leadership.
