Activity 2
Hello again! For this activity, we would like you to start gathering literature on your topic. This is an opportunity for you to check whether the topic chosen really
interests you, and to start learning more about it. Please make sure that you complete this activity by the deadline set in class and in the module handbook. So
let’s start!
We would like you to find 12 journal articles that are directly relevant for your topic. Ideally, you should focus on peer-reviewed academic journals, and avoid
textbooks, internet sources, and even books. To ensure that your list is well focused, you may want to gather more than 12 articles, and only list the 12 most
relevant.
We would also like you to use the UWE Harvard format to format your references. You can find information about this format
here: https://www1.uwe.ac.uk/students/studysupport/studyskills/referencing/uwebristolharvard.aspx
Here is an example of a reference using the conventions of the UWE Harvard format:
Robinson, S., Ratle, O. and Bristow, A. (2017) Labour pains: Starting a career within the neo-liberal university. Ephemera. 17 (3), pp. 481–508.
Remember: no books, no internet sources, and stay focused on your topic. Good luck!
Please explain your search strategy. How did you go on to seek your sources?
Literature is the review of available sources that are books, journals, articles, publication research and many others. These sources are used for collecting
accurate and in-depth information regarding the role of leadership in reduction of employee turnover.
Please list your 12 references, using the UWE Harvard format.
Using the UWE Harvard format with accuracy is not an option. It is something you have to aim to. And remember: no books, no internet sources.

Read five of your references. In approximately 500 words, can you tell us about what you have learned, and most importantly, do you still think this is an
interesting topic for you to study?
Concept of leadership and employee turnover
According to the Bennis and Thomas (2020), leadership is the capability of a person or group of individual to influence their employees towards attainment of
common goals of an organisation.
As per the opinion of Rosenbach (2018), leadership is the art of influencing and motivating employees to work effectively and helps an organisation in
accomplishment of competitive advantages.
According to the Lyons and Bandura (2019), employee turnover introduces to the total number of employees who leave an organisation over a definite time
period.
On the other hand, Zimmerman, Swider and Boswell (2019), turnover of the employee is defined as the number of workers who quite the company.
Positive and negative impact of leadership on the rate of employee turnover
According to the Northouse (2021), leadership has a positive impact in reducing the employee turnover. Leadership within a workplace is important because it
increase motivation among employees that resulted in reduced turnover.
As per the opinion of Daniëls, Hondeghem and Dochy (2019), within an organisation, leadership is essential for the company because with the help of this, they
can easily increase satisfaction and motivation among the workforce. This has a positive impact on company by reducing employee turnover.
On the other hand, Zhao and et. al., (2018), inappropriate leadership at workplace has a negative impact on employees because it increases demotivation among
workplace that turn to increase employee turnover.
According to the view presented by Skelton, Nattress and Dwyer (2019), if an organisation not use effective leadership then it increases rate of employee
turnover. This has a negative effect over business performance and growth of an organisation.
Ways that would be used for overcoming the negative impact of leadership on the rate of employee turnover
According to the Antonakis and Day (2018), in order to reduce negative impact of leadership, there is a suggestion to an organisation to increase employee
motivation by using participative leadership.
As per the opinion of Western (2019), providing equal opportunity to the employees is an effective way for overcoming the employee turnover.
On the other hand, Chiat and Panatik (2019), for reducing the negative effect of leadership on the rate of employee turnover, there is requirement for
developing positive working environment.

Activity 4
Hello! This week, you will build on what you have done before to define your project further. If you feel that some questions are repetitive, please remember
that this is an opportunity for you to improve the work you have done during previous weeks. Please make sure that you complete and submit this activity by
the deadline set in class and in the module handbook.
Now that you are more knowledgeable about your chosen topic, please explain why you think this is a topic that needs to be studied.
This topic is needed because it helps me in identifying positive and negative impact of leadership on the rate of employee turnover along with financial
performance of UK banking industry
Reading about your topic, what have you found surprising about it? Mysterious? Stimulating?
There is no wrong answer here, but this is an opportunity to reflect on whether it si really meaningful to study your chosen topic, or whether it is boring and
meaningless.
Current topic is important and essential because it helps in overcoming the negative impact of leadership on the rate of employee turnover.
What is(are) your aim(s)?
Do try to keep this to one sentence.
The aim of the current research is “To investigate the positive and negative impact of leadership on the rate of employee turnover along with financial
performance of UK banking industry: A study on Access Bank Plc
What is(are) your objective(s)?
This can be more elaborated, but keep it as list of bullet points.
To identify the concept of leadership and employee turnover
To identify the positive and negative impact of leadership on the rate of employee turnover
To determine the ways that would be used for overcoming the negative impact of leadership on the rate of employee turnover
What is your main research question? You can include subsidiary questions if needed, but do think carefully about whether it is realistic to tackle more than
one question. Having read Chapter 2 in White (2009), do you think your question(s) is well constructed?
This is where things often go wrong. It is easy to be too ambitious, and it is easy to ask a question that isn’t really helpful. When you ask a question, ask yourself:
“do I really care about the answer”?

Final proposal
We have reached the end of the classroom-based part of the module, and it is now time to take stock of everything we have done, and to produce a proposal.
This is an opportunity for you to revisit everything you have done so far, and possibly to improve it.
WARNING: At this stage, some students who have not made good progress may feel distressed, and may feel that using the services of an easy mill sounds like a
good idea. Talk to your tutor instead, as we are here to help and advise you. People who cheat generally get found out, and punished. But if you were to
miraculously succeed in passing someone else’s work as your own, you may want to take inspiration from Dostoevsky’s epic novel Crime and Punishment, where
the actions of the main character, Rodion Raskolnikov lead him to be filled with guilt, confusion, paranoia, horror and disgust for his actions. Imagine spending
your entire life knowing that you did not really write your dissertation, and did not really earned your degree. What an unberable weight that would be on your
shoulders. You can save yourself a lot and anxiety and self-doubt by simply writing a good proposal. Once you complete your dissertation, you will rightly be
truly proud of yourself.
Topic - UMOCJY-60-M
If you wish to do UMSDS8-60-M, please leave this section blank. If you wish to do UMOCJY-60-M, please describe your topic, and explain why it needs to be
studied? Please focus on the intellectual relevance, which are the reasons for studying this topic that are provided in the literature. You do need to make
references ot debates in the literature.
Topic – UMSDS8-60-M
If you wish to do UMOCJY-60-M, please leave this section blank. If you wish to do UMSDS8-60-M, please describe your topic, and how you managed to codefine
it with your host organisation.
The current research topic is to evaluate the impact of leadership on employee performance of banking industry within Nigeria. The research is performed on
Access Bank Plc which is a Nigerian bank and the bank is having presence in 12 countries with 31 million customers. As the research topic is to investigate the
impact drawn by leadership over performance of employees within banking industry so that the selected organisation is working within banking industry and
this way the topic is related with the working of selected organisation (Asrar-ul-Haq and Kuchinke, 2016). This is analysed that in banking industry tasks are
performed in the team so that using appropriate leadership this is efficient that to manage overall business functions.

To investigate the positive and negative impact of leadership on the rate of employee turnover along with financial performance of UK banking industry: A study
on Access Bank Plc
Objective(s)
What is(are) your objective(s)?
To understand the concept of leadership and employee turnover
To analyse the positive and negative impact of leadership on the rate of employee turnover?
To determine the ways that would be used for overcoming the negative impact of leadership on the rate of employee turnover
Research question(s)
What is(are) your main research question(s)? You can include subsidiary questions if needed, but if you include more than one question, do think about whether
this is really a good idea or not.
What is the concept of leadership and employee turnover?
What are the positive and negative impact of leadership on the rate of employee turnover?
What are the ways that would be used for overcoming the negative impact of leadership on the rate of employee turnover?
Review of the literature
Reviewing the literature will have given you a deeper understanding of how other researchers approach the study of your topic. Your account will be more
convincing and plausible if you use illustrative examples. You can use what you have done in previous activities, or include new ones.
Please describe the variety of research
paradigms (or methodologies) you have
encountered in your review of the
literature.
Research paradigm is defined as set of beliefs and agreements which are taken within the research for the major objectives of managing research
problem and attain research objectives. Research paradigm is the approach which helps in verifying the research situation can be managed.
There are two types of research paradigm such as positivism and interpretivism (Khan and et. al., 2016). In the current literature, interpretivism
research paradigm is used so that in qualitative manner research can be executed. Another reason of selecting interpretivism is that this method
undertakes different theories so that appropriate conclusion can be performed.
Please describe the variety of research
methods (or data collection tools) you
have encountered in your review of the
literature.
Data collection methods are defined as such process which is used for acquiring data as according to the topic of research. Data collection is one
of the essential aspect within the research so that research can be aligned with the research topic so that research objectives can be attained.
There are two types of data collection methods such as primary and secondary. In the current literature, secondary data collection methods are
used so that to gather in-depth information related with research topic. This way using books, journals and different articles information related
with research topic can be gathered.
Please describe the variety of sampling
strategies you have encountered in your
review of the literature.
Sampling is considered as the method in which samples are undertaken out of whole population so that information can be gathered related with
research topic (Chivanga, 2016). There are two types of sampling methods such as probabilistic and non probabilistic. Sampling is used with
quantitative methods and to collect primary information related with research topic within literature. The current research is based on secondary
data collection approach within quantitative research methods so that sampling strategy is not used within the research.

Please describe what you have learned
about the topic itself while reviewing the
literature.
Research design
Based on your current ideas, please outline, explain and justify your current choice of research design. If you are proposing to use a mixed methodology design,
please do consider whether it is really appropriate, or whether it is simply a way of avoiding making a choice. If it is the latter, please give more thoughts to this
matter.
Research design is defined as the methods and techniques which are used within the research in order to evaluate he research topic and to reach out to
significant conclusion. There are three types of research design such as descriptive, exploratory and experimental. For the current research descriptive research
design is selected so that to manage the research in qualitative manner and to reach out to overall conclusion as well (Alvesson and Sköldberg, 2017). Using this
method researcher will be able to manage the research in depth manner so that in systematic manner research objectives can be attained.
Data collection method
Based on your current ideas, please outline, explain and justify your current choice of data collection method. Try to explain why this type of data is the most
suitable to answer your research question(s).
The research will undertake secondary methods of data collection so that manage the research in suitable manner and to acquire research results as well.
Research site
Where will the research be taking place? (e.g., in an organisation? In which country? Desk-based?) What kind of data will you need? Are you sure you will have
access to the data you need? If you wish to do UMSDS8-60-M, we will need a high level of details and clarity. You may want to include details about the
organisation hosting you, the support it is willing to provide you, the position of your contact within the organisation, what you have agreed with them, and
anything that may be relevant for us to know.
The current research is based on Access Bank Plc which is a Nigerian bank managing their business operations by providing different financial and banking
services. The organisation was founded in the year of 1989 and in the current time the organisation is having functions in 12 countries.
Sampling
Are you using probabilistic sampling or non-probabilistic sampling? Which specific sampling technique will you be using?
The current research is based on secondary methods of data collection so that sampling is not used within the research.

Timescale
Describe the main steps in your research along with the timescale in which they will be completed bearing in mind your final completion date. You can include a
workflow diagram if you wish.
Research ethics
Doing ethical research means that you produce beneficial research (the principle of beneficence), that you do not cause harm to your participants or more
generally to any group in society (the principle of non-maleficence), and that participants are knowingly and freely consenting to participate to your research
(the principle of seeking informed consent).
1) Please describe who your research will benefit,
and how. Please also describe the steps you will take
to ensure that this benefit is real, and maximised
(e.g. presentation to the organisation, or report sent
to participants). If you plan to make your
dissertation a confidential document, it is especially
important to think about how your participants (or
host organisation) will benefit in taking part in this
research.
The research will benefit various stakeholders and the organisation in such a manner that using the same information leadership
styles can be improved. The research is going to provide different benefits to banking industry in which the organisations may
examine their leadership styles and role of leaders within attaining business objectives.
2) How will you insure that no participant suffer
harm or prejudice, and that no nuisance is caused to
any host organisation? (here, you may want to
discuss among other things, how will you store and
use data to insure confidentiality and privacy)
The research is based on Access Bank Plc which is a Nigerian bank having prominent customer base and service portfolio into the
market. In order to insure the organisation regarding no harm to the host organisation confidentiality is maintained so that
appropriate measures of privacy can be exerted (Abdolshah, Khatibi and Moghimi 2018). This manner in order to manage
confidentiality digital methods of data collection are used so that in terms of primary research information can be secured.
3) How will you insure that your participants are
knowingly and freely consenting to take part in this
research? (if you are using secondary data, there
may be similar issues that you want to consider
here, including considerations around the
appropriate permission to use data)
This research is based on secondary research which means that information is collected through various sources so that valid and
reliable data can be collected within the research. This is analysed that using appropriate permission from the host information is
acquired.
