INTRODUCTION
Leadership is an act and process so leading, motivating and guiding individuals of the firms
so that they can perform and execute their task and work in effective manne (Kim and et. al.,
2020). The overarching aim for each in hospitality sector is accomplishing and exceeding
requirements of visitors. This document will discuss about effective leadership and traits,
motives as well as characteristics of effective leaders. Further, will explain about example of
effective leader and personal development plan.
MAIN BODY
Effective leadership
Leadership is an activity of leading a team of individual or an establishment bys effective
leadership quality and skills. Effective leadership is about performing the organisation’s vision
and setting the tone and the culture for that specific organisation’s vision. It is crucial as with the
help of it, the individual can manage integral part of success of the company (Batool, 2013).
Along with this, transformational leadership is an action within, the leader performs with groups
to found out required modification, framing a vision to lead the change by motivation and
performing the change in process with dedicated people of a unit (Al Harbi, Alarifi and Mosbah,
2019). There are different roles are execute of effective leaders in term of appropriate operation
and running of hospitality sector organisations. In form of this, they play an effective role by
encouraging, managing and directing team members. For this, they use their effective skills and
competences like communication, motivation, problems solving and many more.
Traits, motives and characteristics of effective leaders
Traits of effective leaders
Self confidence- It is an effective quality of an effective leader which help in attaining
goal of the task as self confidence states to behaviour and interpersonal ability which is used by
the individual in diverse situation (Nordbäck and Espinosa, 2019). With the assistance of the
person pay its all attention on the task.
Motives of effective leaders
Power- Effective leaders have an immense requirement to manage and control assets.
Due to having this ability, they think how to change the behaviour of others so that they can
execute in well manner (Ohunakin and et. al., 2019). They have personalised and socialised

power and with the help of them they inspire people to attain set aims and goals of hospitality
ventures.
Drive and achievement- Effective leaders are acknowledged as working hard to
accomplish their aims. Due to having drive and accomplishment quality they use their all ability
and energy to achieve aims and attain them in effective manner within set time frame.
Characteristics of effective leaders
Effective leaders have several characteristics which help in performing their duties and
responsibilities in more developed manner. Due to have good senses of humour they help in
dissolve issues and minimise complexities in team. The quality of assertiveness help in executes
task like confronting teammates, demanding high execution and making legitimate need on top
management (Wu and Jing, 2013).
Example of an effective leader:
Elon Musk is one of the most effective leaders and the leader I truly admire. Elon Musk is
the founder of many tech-companies including TESLA and his latest space venture SpaceX
(Vance, 2015). His ability to communicate and influence the behaviour of employees marks his
effective leadership. The reason I strongly feel that Elon Musk is a true example of successful
and effective leadership is his ability to demonstrate compassion and overcome failures and
setbacks. I admire Elon Musk as he is a leader who constantly strives for innovation and
creativity and gives his followers the opportunity to look for better and more innovative solutions
to real-life problems. I believe the path followed by Elon Musk to lead by example is what
contributes to his effective leadership.
Analysis of own leadership skills, motives and characteristics:
Strengths:
I have good interpersonal skills that allows me to communicate openly and freely which
is an essential skill desired in the hospitality industry to lead and manage team of diverse
backgrounds.
I am a self-confident person which is one of my biggest strength.
I have high emotional quotient and I can demonstrate empathy to understand the needs
and concerns of other team members.
