Discussion post 1:
The professional standards are maintained in an organization with the stringent
regulation of factors that control effectiveness, efficiency, efficacy, performance and quality.
The set standards help in the process of ensuring professional credibility and at the same time
also helps in assuring adherence to government regulatory frameworks. Further, it can also be
said that the regulation of the quality standards majorly affect the economic scenario in the
global context. The current healthcare reforms have critically focused on improving the
quality as well as access to the healthcare facilities for all. The Patient Protection and the
Affordable Care Act (PPACA) can be mentioned as a landmark legislative reform that has
changed the service delivery of the healthcare system (Sklar, 2015). In addition to this, the
modifications incorporated within the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act that was
passed in 2010 has also enhanced the improvement and affordability of the healthcare
services. The health care sector can be identified as a dynamic system which is characterised
by the economic and the environmental challenges. These challenges can be identified to be
existing in the form of financial inflation and the non-uniform healthcare needs of the people.
Thus, setting up quality standards would help in rendering continuous quality improvement to
foster better service delivery.

On the basis of the case scenario, it should be mentioned that Roland Jones cannot be
forcefully kept in the hospital against his consent. The case here represents a critical violation
of the ethical standard of the medical profession. The law clearly states that a patient cannot
be retained within the healthcare facility against his/her consent. Also, care facilities must
ensure patient safety which can be seen to be violated as the patient managed to sneak out.
Therefore, the correct way to deal with the patient should have included conducting a safe
