INTRODUCTION
Leadership and management can be defined as backbones of an organization. The report
will be presenting overview of both leadership and management. At the same time a range of
theories and models would also be taken into consideration (Mango, 2018) Then a review will be
made analysing influence of external factors on adult care. At the end of the report role of
leadership and management would be analysed with respect to adult health care.
MAIN BODY
1.1 Concepts of leadership and management-
Leadership can be defied as an act of influencing others and making them ready to
perform on their merit. There are range of role or concepts come under leadership such as
Visionary, Coaching, Affiliate, Democratic, Commanding etc. these all concepts are
undisputable when it comes to leadership (Da’as and Zibenberg, 2021)
At the same time management is the act of managing a number of business activities
which make that business or certain activity carried out successfully. There are some key
concepts such as planning, organizing, staffing, coordinating, leading and then controlling the
activities. These all actions are taken by a manager.
1.2 Theories and models of leadership-
Different theorists have suggested number of theories but some salient theories are as-
1) Transformational theory- It believes that the main role of a leader is to bring transformation in
the behaviour or attitude of employees. For fulfilment of the purpose a leader is supposed to
present its great ability to collaboration, management, hard-working, honest, skilful, having both
hard and soft skills, good communication etc.
It paves way to bring severe transformation in the behaviour of employees, and they can
be driven to achieve bigger in interest of long term goals of the organization (Banerjee, 2021)
2) Transactional theory- this approach or leadership model is based on short term objectives. It
believes that by offering sort of punishments or rewards the skills and approaches of employees
can get changed. They may get driven to make their full efforts and can achieve the short term
goals or objectives of the organization. This approach is not much fruitful when it comes to
longer approach so it has been seen used for short while.

1.3 Theories and models of management-
1) Scientific model of management- This model believes that rather than practising sort of
traditional or rules of thumb, an organization is needed to impart scientific management. It
upholds the notion that there must be clear vision of the organization so can drive its resources to
that direction. Then there must be a well-structured hierarchy so can make Strone surveillance of
employees. The organization is needed to abide with performance related payments so the
employee who is performing greater will get higher salary.
2) Human relation theory- This theory believes that the modern management is nothing but just
an act of influencing human being conjoined to the organization. If employees are not satisfied
then they would not work on their merit which will ultimately cause poor operational
performance. So keeping workplace environment pleasant is quite essential and the role of a
manager is inclined to it (Hardy, et al. 2020)
2.1 Impact of external factors on leadership and management in adult care-
Adult care is one of the most significant branch of modern medical. It provides care and
sort f companionship to the older adults, it promotes their physical, social, emotional well bing
by providing planned care.
There are number of external factors such as employees, organizational environment,
available resources, prevailing culture, sociological factors, technological up-gradations,
economic and political dynamics, demographics etc.
These all elements are having their impacts on leadership and management in adult care.
These factors are having ability to impact leadership and management in both directions. There
are some aspects which are supposed to be there in a leader or manager who is engaged in such
adult care.
Being observant, having great communication, empathy with adults, having positive
approach, passionate for problem solving etc. These all elements are having their direct
relationship with external factors (Leeb, et al. 2020)
These factors are having potential to impact confidence, attentiveness, supportive,
creative, compassionate, patient etc. traits of a leader or manager engaged in adult care.

2.2 Operational functions of management in adult care-
There are number of operational functions which are performed in adult health care. A
manger or a leader is responsible to carry out these operational functions with greater efficiency
in order to maximize the final outcomes of adult health care.
1) Patient case management.
2) Coordinating with the care givers.
3) Keeping surveillance on para medical staff.
4) Ensuring quality of medical practice.
5) Management of finance (Vajro, et al. 2018)
6) Coordination with patients.
7) Timely making reviews of both operational and non-operational elements.
Along with these operational functions there are some minute factors or actions too, Which are
supposed to be managed by manager itself.
2.3 Role of operational activities in adult care-
These operational activities are having their comprehensive impact on the final outcomes
of adult care. From so long, there are significant number of issues are prevailing in adult care
such as Lack of mobility, unique issues with individuals, complicated grief, growing population,
mistreatment, using intoxicating products etc.
By practising operational activities efficiently these all perils can be eliminated to certain
degree and the outcomes of adult health care can be boosted up with higher rate. It has been seen
that with the progress of time adult care is becoming a severe jeopardy so the role of these
operational activities are quite mammoth.
There is a great constellation of youth or adult which is not having sufficed confidence in
such health care. One of the biggest issue with adults is their emotional weakness and often they
suffer form the emotional turmoil. With this regard, taking supportive actions are inevitably
needed, which is only possible with better management of such operational activities (Badejo, et
al. 2018)
2.4Role of leadership and management in influence the delivery of adult care-
Delivery of adult care can be defined as a process of extending health related services to
adults in order to eradicate their ailments and making their life happy and cheerful. Adult care is

still not well groomed and a wide amount of youth is suffering form various ailments and are not
being given proper treatments.
The role of better leadership and management is quite essential when it comes to
transform the adult care delivery system. There are sorts of types of care delivery such as Home
health care, adult daycare centres, Nursing at home, assisting their lives etc.
These all delivery systems can be improved with the help of better management and
leadership. A well-structured leadership and management will enable to install some better
practiser so can wipe out all hindrances (Hobart and Phan, 2019)
Aligning with proper care delivery system, keeping the community satisfied, fetching
collaborative practises, incorporating good behaviour and social health perspective, making
communication intensive, development of social norms and approaches in favour of such
patients etc.
So it can be said that the entire adult care delivery system can be revolutionized with the
help of strong installation of leadership and management.
6.5 Actions for own development as a manager and a leader in adult care-
There are number of fields where I can make improvements, but these are some areas
where would like to work deeply in order to make personal skilled mammoth with respect to be a
good leader and manager in adult care setting.
There is need to work on professional competence, so with higher confidence can work
on the field. Being a leader or a manger just managing the tasks and activities is not needed there
is need to have good understanding of the realm so can proceed with higher efficiency.
Strong communication is another area to work upon. Such adult patients are having
emotional issues which not only make them weaker but kicks off need to have sensitive
communication. It will be helpful to bring the morale of such patients higher.
There is strong need to work on some ethical rules and principles too. Adult care delivery
and services are seen as lacking in term of ethics so with this regard being a successful leader
and manager in this field, the need of being highly ethical can not be nullified.
Being attentive is one of the most affecting aspect. Now the adult care is getting new shape in the
society. People are getting conscious which is giving it higher priority. So for becoming a
successful leader and manager in this field. There is burning requirement to work on personal
ability to decipher the prevailing environment and pouring out needs.

So form the evaluation above it can be justified that for owns development as a manager
and leader in adult care setting, can not rely on only professional realm, working on some
associated factors is a must need.
CONCLUSION
Form the report above it can be concluded that the role of a leader and manager with
respect to adult care giving is very dynamic in nature. The report evaluated a range of theories
and models of both leadership and management. Furthermore, it has presented a wide picture of
adult health care and role leadership and management play in order to make adult care effective.
