Introduction-
This study is aimed at understanding the leadership qualities, which is important to enter
into an industry and to flourish the career with the leadership qualities. The hotel industry in
particular requires professionals that possess leadership qualities in him or her. Due to an
increasing business of hotel industry, there is an utmost need to possess the leadership qualities
(Rogerson, 2013). This will help at the time of interview and after joining the workplace.
Moreover, this will help in becoming an effective leader in the chosen hotel.
Answer to questions on page 23-
Personal mission statement-
My mission is very precise and clear. I believe in attaining the happiness as I believe that
this will be the one thing, which will stay with me in my lifelong journey. In order to attain the
desired mission, I needed to prepare myself in such a way that I do not get away with the
challenges that will keep on coming till the end of my life. I feel that this is necessary to live to
the fullest of happiness to keep myself firm strong against any challenges.
Job resume-
My leadership style- The leadership style that I possess is very simple. I believe in teamwork. I
believe in including everybody around me in the group who all are with me in my academics.
This is indeed challenging; however, I do this through some qualities in me such as confidence,
honesty, trustworthiness and the determination. I am very determined and goal oriented as well. I
believe in one thing that there is a way to every challenge. It is indeed better to find the way to
counter the challenges or otherwise this will give way to making of excuses (Northouse, 2015).

My strengths & weaknesses- I have recently gone through the strengths finder test to find out
the strengths in me (Bird et al., 2012). The results were indeed interesting. The result made me
understand the top strengths in me that are competitive, achiever, commanding and responsible. I
am totally satisfied with the results. These strengths are actually in me. However, I do have some
weaknesses as well. The identified strengths make me trap into few weaknesses. When I do not
find things going according to my plan, I become stressed. Additionally, whenever I fail in any
of the assignment, the failure keeps on haunting me for a long period of time.
Leadership experiences-
I have got various different moments that have helped me identify the leadership qualities
in me (Nahavandi, 2016). Some of such experiences are as follows:
Team Cluster Projects- During the cluster projects, I lead my group through effective
communication. The communication did help every other member to go thoroughly with the
project. They pumped with confidence as I communicated the importance of cluster project.
Everything went well because effective communication did help in understand the project well.
Boxing Club- I was being assigned the role of a trainer in the boxing club. I had been there for a
complete one year. This has helped me understand how to supervise such a large team. I did
effectively handle the training job. I was able to provide benefits to many who all were a part of
the boxing club.
Entrepreneurship Consulting Project- In one of the projects on Entrepreneurship, I was able to
take the lead role in presenting the project. I included everyone in the group and was able to
relate everyone with their capabilities. I was successful in keeping them organized through the
project presentation.

Five traits, motives and characteristics in me (Daft, 2014)-
Competitive- I am very competitive in nature as I have already mentioned few experiences that
show my competitiveness. The presentation project that I conducted on entrepreneurship gives a
very good example of competitiveness in me. I am competitive, which is why I get nervous when
things do not turn around according to the plan.
Achiever- I am achiever as well. I try to achieve several things that I excite me. I have shared
some of my experiences such as the cluster project, part of boxing club and entrepreneurship
project. I was successful able to handle the presentation project. I was also successful in training
the members in the boxing club. This simply shows that I have the capabilities in me to achieve
the set target.
Commanding- I am commanding, which is revealed in my experience in the boxing club. I
worked there as a trainer. I was able to successfully train the members. The commanding quality
that I have was only a responsible factor behind selecting the presentation project on
entrepreneurship.
Responsible- I take the responsibilities. This is evident in the presentation project, in the cluster
project and also in the boxing club. I was able to make the team members understand their
responsibilities during the cluster project. I was also able to make them understand during the
presentation project on the entrepreneurship. I was a successful boxing trainer at the boxing club.
Such experiences do really express that I have the capabilities in me to be responsible person
with the numerous kinds of projects that I get.

Transformative- The transformational qualities in me is very much evident in some of the
examples that I had during my cluster project, the entrepreneurship project and the boxing club.
The transformation leadership qualities in me did only encourage me in those kinds of
challenging projects (Antonakis & Day, 2017).
Required leadership skills for future-
The leadership skills that are needed to develop into myself can be understood from the
examples of some successful leaders. Some of the identified leaders are Julius Caesar, Warren
Buffet and Alexander the Great.
Julius Caesar- I get inspiration from the leadership qualities in Julius Caesar. The person was
confident to attain the success at any cost. This has helped Julius to attain his goal (Braund,
2013). I sometimes lose on confidence when things do not turn around according to the plan. I
can learn from Julius Caesar how to handle the challenging and unexpected situations by being
confident in any circumstances.
Warren Buffet- Warren follows the philosophy that patience pays off. He is known as a famous
investor (Kelly, 2017). I can learn from Warren how to be patient under the oddest of situations.
I generally lose on confidence when things are not going in my favor. Mr. Warren is a good
example for me to learn on how to be an effective leader in showing the utmost patience.
Alexander the Great- There is some very important learning in the leadership style of
Alexander the Great. Alexander was highly ambitious. The ambition is very well revealed in
attaining the desired goal. I am ambitious as well. However, I sometime lose on confidence and
left with no clues on how to proceed with the task. Additionally, Alexander was intelligent as

well, which has helped the Greta in attaining his goal (Holt, 2012). Such intelligence is missing
in me.

Action and skill development-
The ideal leaders that I took as examples helped me to understand the leadership qualities
that I need to develop into me. The identified leadership qualities for future development are as
follows (Coghlan & Brannick, 2014):
To be confident in any circumstances
To never lose the patience
To be ambitious and intelligent as well
The development of such leadership skills needs to be developed through a robust action plan.

Tricia could have asked for the suggestions on what to do if anything like such happens. This
means that Tricia should have disclosed the issue on the Twitter but not highlighting as if the
incident is related to Tricia only. This will help in getting useful suggestions without letting the
personal thing highlighted on Twitter.
Answer to question 2-
Highlighting the personal issue on the social networking sites such as Twitter is the
exaggeration that Tricia has shown. Things as such could have been resolved by interacting with

Leadership example scenarios:
Scenario 1- The admin department was less cautious about the safety parameters in a hotel. This
is indeed dangerous and can lead to fatalities. In my observation, the admin department was less
concerned with the safety parameters.
My action- I could have focused much on assuring the safety parameters such as ensuring that
currents are properly planned. Additionally, I would have also checked whether the other staffs
do maintain their roles & responsibilities properly.
Scenario 2- The chef was unfriendly to its cook in a hotel because the cook was very slow in
understanding the job requirement. Moreover, rapport building was also the problem. I did come
to know of the issue through one of my friends who is working in the same company.
My action- I could have first asked for the reasons why the cook is not able to understand the
cooking art. Afterwards, I could have move to diagnose the exact flaws. Such measures could
have helped me in relating with the cook, which is indeed necessary to drive her for success.

I wanted to purchase software to manage and edit photos on my computer. The intention
took me to an interesting journey. I ended up with a realization that life gives full opportunities
to go against the ethical behavior or for it. I did follow the ethicalities by not purchasing the

This is due to the fact that such pirates offer software on comparatively lower prices. The

Scenario- Yes, I had some opportunities to play the role of a leadership. I work in a private firm

supervisors. My colleague was very low in morale, which is expected too. On one day, I found
him in no shape. My colleague was actually frustrated. I listened to him carefully and tried to
encourage him for a better performance.
Leadership example- The experience was full of leadership exploration from me. I did produce
the example of supportive trait of leadership by listening to him and encouraging him for a
better performance (Oostlander et al., 2014). I did also help him with some useful strategies,
which will help my colleague to perform better hereafter.

I am sharing the experiences that I have with my manager. My manager has ample of
such characteristics in him that speak of the leadership quality. One of such characteristics is
persuasiveness that makes him a good speaker. The meeting that my manager takes is full of

Splendid Seniors” is an initiative, which is in process. Following are some recommendations for

of every single older employee. Democratic leadership encourages for a team-work in

Caesar, Warren Buffet and Alexander the Great have helped me to understand the importance of
being patient, ambitious, intelligent and competitive. Moreover, through the different case
scenarios I was also able to understand the importance of relevant leadership styles at the
different circumstances in organizations. Leadership styles such as transformative and
democratic are really helpful in absorbing the oddest of circumstances in organization
(Oostlander et al., 2014).
