Hello everyone and thank you for joining me in the picturised presentation about leadership.
Slide 1: Introduction
The aim of today is to enlighten about the positive characteristics of the leader and the
strategies used by the leaders to motivate the emotional labour. It will also cover the skill
development strategies which will boost the morale of the nurses and will help in enhancing
their performance. Before we get into detail the first thing we will discuss is about leadership.
In the complex business environment, “A leader is one who has the ability to guide, direct
and influence the behaviour of others”. The term leadership describes the ability of an
individual to motivate and influence others in order to make them more committee towards
the goals of the organization.
It is analysed that application of different leadership styles allows the leader to develop an
emotional connection with the employees and develop a positive working culture. A stronger
culture of compassionate love allows providing psychological satisfaction to the nurses and
will help to provide safe practices at the hospitals. Implementation of authentic leadership
will allow the leader to maintain honest relations with the labour and will ensure transparency
in actions. The leaders focus on employee satisfaction and promote the well-being of the
employees

In the second slide, I have stress upon the characteristics of an authentic leader.

“Authentic leader is the one that focuses on positive outcomes by making people aware and
taking honest actions”. It is defined as a modern and inclusive approach that the leaders use
in nurturing genuine relationships with its subordinates and providing importance to the
inputs of the employees.
Supportive: The authentic leader encourages the employees to be open and supports them in
developing their individual and group performance. It develops the vision and focuses on
developing strong relationships with employees.
Self-Aware: The authentic leader is self-aware about its strengths and weaknesses and
makes the effort to enhance productivity. Such a leader focuses on long term results and
provides the hope to the emotional labour to have patience in solving the temporary setbacks.
Integrity is considered as the main characteristics of such leaders and develops trust among
the employees.
Slide 3: Characteristics of an authentic leader
The other characteristics of the authentic leader are:
A good listener and open-minded: An authentic leader is a good listener and is open-
minded to allow the employees for their constructive suggestions. They believe in open
communication and ensure transparency in their operations. They do not hide any
information with their employees and are behaving consistently. These leaders share their
success with the team members and reward them for success. Such attributes help in
motivating the employees and make them more committed towards the organizations.
Optimism: The authentic leader leads the team with vision and develops the attitude of
optimism among the labour to develop the capacity for resolving the complex situations and

develops confidence among the employees to improve their well-being. The leaders get
evolved from real-life experiences and have the ability to lead the team in a better way.
Applications of such positive characteristics will help in reducing the stress at the workplace
and improving the psychological capital of the nurses. It creates positive organizational
behaviour and supporting climate to improve the productivity of the employees and providing
higher employee satisfaction.
Slide 4: Dimensions of Authentic leadership
This slide will throw light upon the dimension of authentic leadership that helps in creating
positive outcome outcomes. Such dimensions inspire the workforce to be self-aware about
the strengths and develop their own personality. It engages the employees and motivates
them to enhance the productivity of the company.
The detailed explanation of dimensions is given below:
Self-Awareness: Such leaders allow the employees to be self-aware and learn about oneself.
This, in turn, helps them in analyzing their motives, goals, and values. The authentic leaders
inspire them and further motivate them to perform. It helps the employees in developing their
own personality.
Balanced processing: Authentic leaders focus on balanced processing i.e. self-regulation
after analyzing all the information and make the decision accordingly. Such factors provide
openness and increase satisfaction among the employees.
Internalized moral perspective: The authentic leaders focus on internalized moral
perspective under which it inspires the employees to behave according to moral standards
and values rather than depending upon the external pressures. It focuses on self-regulation to

develop harmonize relations and collaborate the efforts to increase the productivity of the
organization.
Relational transparency: It involves exhibiting open, transparent relations with co-workers.
It includes the representation of an individual’s true interior.
Slide 5: Role of Authentic Leader
In this slide, I have covered the role the authentic leader plays in increasing productivity and
employee satisfaction.
It is analyzed that the Leader inspires the workforce and motivates them to perform by
designing various rewards and training that provides an advantage to the employees. It builds
trust among the employees and develops cordial relations with employees which further
makes them more committed towards the organization.
It considers the employee engagement in important decisions of the company and ensures
transparency with employees to motivate them and increases their level of satisfaction which
further contributes towards increased productivity. The leaders provide the flexibility and
freedom to the employees.
Slide 5: Difference between leader and manager
In this slide, I have discussed the differences between the manager and the leaders.
A manager is the one who manages the things to increase the profit of the business but the
leader focuses on inspiring its team members and the growth of the team members. The
manager does not try to implement change and adopts the same old process for working
while the leaders focus on implementing change for long term sustainability of the business

The manager implies its power on lower-level employees while the leader focuses on
developing power among the employees by standing with them and encouraging them to
grow themselves
The leaders make followers and are unique. They are self-aware and develop their personality
differently while the mangers try to copy leaders and adapt their leadership style and
competencies.
Slide 6: Psychological capital
During the course, I have learned that a higher level of psychological capital brings positive
outcomes and is attained through hope, efficacy, resilience, and optimism. The slide will
provide a deep insight into the role of psychological capital in bringing positive
organizational outcomes.
The theory of culture of compassionate love describes that the feeling of affection,
compassion, caring for others influences the outcomes of the nurses and the clients. It is
analyzed that the employees have the trait positive affectivity which describes the tendency
of the employees to emotionally engage and have a positive working environment. It allows
the nurses to be more committed towards the organization goals and provide quality of life in
the health care industry.
It is analyzed that the development of positive psychological capital helps in making the
person more productive and improving the state of well-being. It focuses on creating hopes
by developing the determination and developing pathways for the achievement of the goals.
The leader must focus on developing the confidence among the nurses to achieve the goals
under particular situations.

It focuses on engaging the employees and making them self-aware about their strengths and
weakness. The leader must develop positive attitude among the nurses .i.e. it must focus on
building optimism among the nurses so as to solve the complex situations and creates hope
and confidence for solving complex situations in life. The leaders must develop resilience
among employees to recuperate from stress and allows the nurses to perform increased
responsibility.
Development of a higher level of psychological capital will help in creating a supportive
working environment and will develop positive employee attitudes and behaviors. It allows
improving the well-being of the nurses and reduces their stress at the workplace. A higher
level of psychological capital reflects a positive attitude and behaviours of employees. The
nurses will become more committed to delivering safe practices.
Slide 8: Strategies to improve the well-being of employees
In this slide, I have the cover the strategies that will help the leader in improving the well-
being of employees. The strategies are as follows:
Understanding of psychological patterns
It is analyzed that the leader must focus on understanding the psychological patterns of the
employees. It includes emotions, behaviors, values, facial expressions, presence and reactions
in particular situations. This will allow the leader to develop the strategies that motivate the
employees and meet the expectations of the employees.

The employees in the current scenario focus on grabbing the opportunities that help them in
the advancement of career and creates the platform for growth. The leaders must design
individual development plans for the employees to motivate them and retain them for a
longer period of time.

The employees must recognize their own responses and must be honest to oneself. They must
realize their own strengths and weakness to learn from past experience and grow as
individuals.
Such strategies will help the leaders in understanding their employees and act in accordance
to meet the expectations of the employees.

This slide reflects upon the exercise that the leaders can use in developing the skills of the
employees and further providing the opportunity of growth.
Questionnaire
Under this, the employees must focus on developing the questionnaire for oneself and make
self-evaluation. It will help in a greater understanding of one own self. For example: what is
the easiest and challenging task, how effectively do I communicate and what learning am I
have received from recent failures.
Practicing of self-evaluation
The employee must keep track of the progress and must set the regular goals to achieve the
desired state of level.
