Introduction
The following report is prepared in order to
understand how different conflicts can be
resolved through effective leadership.

Selection of the Scenario
A situation of leadership wherein the
communication barriers between John
and Harry was selected. The first
scenario is between John who is blue
collar worker is dissatisfied with his
supervisor as he seems pre-occupied
with his work and does not involve in
performance improvement issues.
Second scenario is wherein Harry who
is furious with John because of his
dissatisfied behaviour towards work.

Questions posed (Scenario 1)
What could be the ways the
communication barriers can be
eradicated?
Can John converse with Harry
regarding improvement in
performance issues;
Does the performance improvement
issues have to be measured
regularly?

Questions posed (Scenario 2)
Which is the best method: Two way
communication or one way?
Can Harry discuss and guide John for
his behaviour towards work?
Are the relations between an
employer-employee have to be
healthy?

Strategies to resolve the
issue
• Scenario 1: The employer should take the
use of mitigating speech as it will develop
better relation between employee and
employer. This means that employers
should command in a manner that they do
not sound so bossy.
• Scenario 2: Employees need proper
direction for the work allotted to them so
that they can continue their work.
Performance Review should be done
monthly or quarterly.

Methods
Proper methods of listening can be done
to resolve both scenario’s.

Models
McGregor suggested Theory X and
Theory Y which well suits with this
scenario’s.

Methods to solve the issue
Scenario 1
Theory Y is appropriate in John-Harry
scenario wherein former wants to work
but is concerned regarding the
improvement of his performance.
Scenario 2:
Theory X wherein Harry is dissatisfied
with the John’s behaviour towards the
work.

With / Without Interventions
Scenario 1
In this, either John would be relaxed enough
seeing to the supervisor being busy and
monitoring his work properly; or he would not
feel agitated to continue with the organization as
there is no coaching and guidance provided
properly.
If this scenario is properly examined, only barrier
is the communication flow. If John provides the
feedback in a healthy note to Harry, lot of such
issues can be resolved in no time. This will
augment the performance of company.

With / Without Interventions
Scenario 2
In this, Harry would be so furious that he would
gradually become an autocratic leader who is
always at commanding position rather than
being a democratic leader who believes in
teamwork.
With the analysis of this scenario, if a wrong
intervention is done, this may lead to Harry
becoming an autocratic leader and commanding
John which will make him dissatisfied towards
the work. This will make him more irresponsible
towards the work.

Conclusion
Both the scenario’s have to be examined
carefully before dealing out and
concluding to a decision. These are
simply communication issues which can
be resolved by following proper chain
of communication.
