1LEADERSHIP SKILLS ASSESSMENT
Introduction:
The impact of the leadership in the modern business context is observed to be
significant. The competition among the organizations for the survival in the industry, is
forcing them to be concentrated on the scientific management of the operations (Wagner,
2016). The paper is focused on the evaluation of my leadership skills. The evaluation is
dependent on the results of a leadership test. Along with this, the paper is focusing on the
elaboration of the lapses of mine in providing effective leadership which is reflected from the
results of the leadership test.
Discussion:
In the leadership test (Mindtools.com, 2019), I scored 72 which is pretty good
according to the standards and that is visible from the comment “Excellent” posted against
my results. The result confirms that I am a good leader but at the same time, it portrays the
need of improvement in my leadership skills as well. As it is true that a leader cannot be too
good or too experienced to learn new methods and techniques of leading, I was in need to
evaluate the factors which decreased my effectiveness or ratings as a leader. This was
significant in increasing the effectiveness of the subordinates.
An effective leader must score high on two aspects which are the self-confidence and
the positive attitude or outlook. The formation of the self confidence is significantly possible
with the effective focus on the mastering of the significant skills and situations. The
development of the self confidence in me is processed by becoming well aware of all things
that I have achieved over the years. In the self-confidence aspect, I was able to score 8 out 10
which shows that I am significantly self-confident and that helps me to inspire my
subordinates. On the other hand, it is true that a leader must have a positive mindset. The
capability of being positive depends on the sense of balance that a leader must have between

the setbacks or problems and the short and long term wins. I personally feel that I approach
any particular event realistically as that helps me to assess the impact of it. Along with this, it
helps me to overcome the challenges with the exact selection of the solutions. In the aspect of
the positive attitude and outlook, I score 9 out of 10 which show my excellence in being
positive during my leadership.
Along with this, my score in the emotional intelligence aspect confirms the fact that I
am significantly approachable and the score of 10 out of 10 proves to be a proof of the fact
that I understand the emotions of my subordinates and I take care of that fact in dealing with
them. Along with this, the score is significant in stating my excellence in communicating
effectively and at the same time, having the practice of empathetic listening.
In addition to this, the transformational leadership is one key aspect of the qualities of
a good leader and in that case, a leader’s capability of creating a compelling vision for the
future becomes significant. It is unfortunate for me that I score low in this aspect. The major
reason behind this, is my incapability of identifying the key insights of the environment in
which I operate. However, I find the effective usage of the prioritization skills and the
decision making techniques to be highly helpful for me and along with that, the bite-sized
training session will help me notably (Leadershipnow.com, 2019). Being a leader, it is
important for me to extract the best out my subordinates. In this case my skills of motivating
them are instrumental in increasing their effectiveness which is visible from my score of 9
out of 10 in the aspect of motivating people to deliver the vision.
Along with the motivations skills, a leader is considered to be effective when he or
she leads by example and in this case being a good role model is significantly important. My
score of 10 out of 10 proves the fact that my skills are sufficient to be the reference for my
subordinates to follow. The efficient management of the performances is significantly
