INTRODUCTION
Leadership is one of the most important element in individual’s life, this simply means they
have to lead and manage their people allowing them to become stable in critical situation. It is
very clear that leadership quality is area which is found in limited people, leaders have ability to
provide clear direction to their team and leading them to success (Goleman, 2017). This study is
based on Barker and Stonehouse, this is one of the most finest furniture brand in the UK. This
report will discuss Shackleton leadership style and its 7 characteristic to become great leader and
review a business situation.
MAIN BODY
Characterising Shackleton leadership style and lesion learned from this:
Leadership is one of the most common but important element in the business world which
allow firm to become stable, this is common term where individual use leadership style to
manage critical situation. There are many cases where leaders tried to manage critical situation
with their characteristic (Bennis and Thomas, 2020). For example; case of Shackleton where he
used style of leadership to manage such situation, Shackleton’s story provide depth details how a
leaders should act in tough or challenging situation. There are certain characteristic of
Shackleton leadership style which allow individual to manage every situation, focusing on story
of great leader, highlighting important characteristic, these are:
Honest: Shackleton was honest which is one of the most important characteristic of leader, this
simply means if an leader is honest enough to lead a team then they can achieve success in
critical situation also. In the business area, leaders need to have honesty to win their follower and
their trust, honest leader provide clear vision and highlight obstacles that will arrive in the road.
Employees demand their leader to be honest, if they promise to motivate employee after critical
situation then they have to motivate them with certain process including financial benefit and
rewarding honestly.
