INTRODUCTION
Strategic management is mainly concerned with the development of organisational
objectives, analysis of the proposed environment as well as internal environment, evaluation of
the strategies and rightful implication of the developed strategies effectively within the entity.
The present report is based on THE BLOOMSBURY, a UK based luxury hotel which belongs
to medium sized hotel. It has been acknowledged that the respective hotel is currently facing
several issues due to the increasing workforce absenteeism within the hotel. This is directly
impacting upon overall business growth of the company as they are not able to execute their
prospected work on the predetermined time frame. The project is divided into four tasks. The
first task is the proposal document that includes specific aim which contribute in the core
organisational strategic objectives. This section covers aim, objectives, scope, methodology
adopted for the completion of the project. The next section of the project includes detailed
information sources of data, determination of alternatives and its critical evaluation. The third
task of the project includes information about critical evaluation of research analysis for
determining outcome, recommendations and its impact. In the last section, detailed discussion is
provided on the several mediums for presenting results of the project.
Task 1
A.C. 1.1 - Determine a topic of investigation that has a strategic implication
The present project provides detailed knowledge on the increasing absenteeism within the
THE BLOOMSBURY which is ultimately placing impact over their business performance in the
negative manner. It has also been seen that there is the core requirement of conducting
investigation on this topic as it is placing huge impact over the growth as well as sustainability
of the same hotel within the hospitality sector. Also, the main reason behind choosing the topic is
that by determining the core factor as well as the issues which are developed due to increasing
absenteeism within the hotel. This increasing absenteeism is also placing influence on the overall
strategic objective and its attainment in negative manner. In addition to this, the respective topic
also places direct contribution in the organisational strategic objectives as well as their
accomplishment that leads to success of the same entity.

The research aim for the current project is “To investigate about several factors behind
increasing staff absenteeism within the organisation.” A case study on The Bloomsbury Hotel.
Scope
Scope for the current project is very vast for THE BLOOMSBURY hotel as well as
whole hospitality sector because increasing absenteeism is considered as the common problem
for all hotels thus it is highly important for the business managers to develop their core
understanding on the several factors which influences employees absenteeism. Also, it would
also contribute in finding out different ways with which business manager can easily address the
problems as well as issues faced by the entity and motivate employees in such a manner so that
they can accomplish organisational objective in quicker manner.
Objectives
To determine factors increasing staff absenteeism
To ascertain several issues faced by hotel due to staff absenteeism
To suggest several ways through which hotel can reduce employee absenteeism
A.C. 1.3 – Take responsibility for and justify the topic of investigation and its aims, scope and
objectives
The main reason behind selecting this topic for this project is that it is the common
problem within the entity which is directly hampering their business performance in the negative
manner. Also, increasing employee absenteeism is also resulting in the decline in satisfaction
level of customers which would also influence occupancy rate of THE BLOOMSBURY in the
near future. Therefore, the selection of this topic contributes in finding out best way for
addressing the issue and improvising the current condition in rightful.
The aim has been developed by analysing current problem faced by the hotel that
influences their performance. With the development of the aim, manager of THE
BLOOMSBURY can easily develop interest of its team member towards the core motive so that
they can place their part of contribution towards the same in rightful manner.
Scope of the project is highly justified because after addressing the issues as well as
developing understanding on the employees core problems, THE BLOOMSBURY hotel can
easily improvising their performance because they will be able to address the problem and
develop loyalty among the employees which would definitely result in the reduction of the
employee absenteeism within the hotel in rightful manner.
