Explain how Barnacles can take emergent approach to change
Barnacle Bay Country House Hotel is located on Scottish coast in rural setting which is
few miles from prosperous market town. Respective hotel is major local employer as they have
75 staff members out of which 55 are of locality and remaining 20 from overseas. Several issues
are facing facing by Barnacles such as staff are employed for full time but they work only when
department is busy but rest of the time chatting with others or regular customers. Along with this,
when hotel is busy in summer months or at Christmas customer face issue as they have to stand
in long queues which result in unsatisfied customers. Moreover, standards of cleanliness are not
good in hotel (Rossi, 2019).
Kurt Lewin's change model – This is an change model which involve three steps such
as unfreezing, changing and refreezing. With the assistance of this model it become easy for
Barnacle Bay Country House Hotel to implement changes in their working. Explanation of these
steps in relation of respective hotel are as follows :-
Unfreezing – In first stage of change model company's manager prepare employees to
accept necessary changes. As Barnacle Bay Country House Hotel is facing several issues
related to full time employees, long customer waiting queues as well as cleanliness
standards in hotel are not good. These are necessary to change for conducting operations
of company in effective manner.
Changing – After creating uncertainty within actual situation, this is the second stage
where a company could effectively implement the change. In context to Barnacle Bay
Country House Hotel, organisation was holding different objectives where developing the
whole new policy (wholesale cultural change) would directly lead the organisation to
reduce the number of issues like customer complaints and so on.
Refreezing – This is said to be the last stage where, changes that are already made
directly gets accepted & this is where refrozen or status quo directly gets implemented.
With the help of this, Barnacle Bay Country House Hotel may become able to attain all
the desired objectives.
