LEAN PROJECT MANAGEMENT
1 Introduction
The foremost determination of the paper is the implementation of lean project
management for the FIFA world cup which is going to be held in Qatar in the year 2022. The
paper will be focussing on the correct usage of the processes for effective stakeholder’s
management, professional identification of the critical stakeholders of the project, the different
ways of implementing lean project management and the implementation of different categories
of project management such as PMBOK, PRINCE 23, OPM, Agile and Lean Six Sigma
(Machado et al., 2017). The lean project management of FIFA world cup 2022 will be conducted
in such a way so that it maintains its good reputation in the market compared to the other global
sports evets such as the 2022 Common wealth Games which is going to be held in Birmingham,
UK.
2 Usage of processes for effective stakeholder management
This project has different types of internal and external stakeholders associated with it,
the responsibilities and roles of the stakeholders should be effectively managed so that the
effectiveness of the project is maintained (Verzuh, 2015). The role and responsibilities of each of
the stakeholders of this project depends upon the needs and requirements of the stakeholders of
the project such as the fans who will be coming to Qatar from all the participating and the non-
participating nations, as well as the team members of the football teams and their background
team. The international celebrities such as the former football legends also falls in the category
of the stakeholders of this project (Sunder, 2016). Interests and expectations of the clients of this
project are considered in the first place by the stakeholders.
Identification of the different types of stakeholders associated with this project is the
main challenge of stakeholder management. Each type of stakeholder has a different type of job
role within the project and management of the stakeholders are very much important for the
success of the project (Anholon & Sano, 2016). The different types of stakeholders associated
with the project should be agreeing on the deliverables of the project. The different phases of the
projects are always subjected to changes and each stakeholder associated with this project should
be accepting the changes and work accordingly. Effective communication between the

2 Usage of processes for effective stakeholder management
This project has different types of internal and external stakeholders associated with it,
the responsibilities and roles of the stakeholders should be effectively managed so that the
effectiveness of the project is maintained (Verzuh, 2015). The role and responsibilities of each of
the stakeholders of this project depends upon the needs and requirements of the stakeholders of

and vision of the project should be static in from the initial to the final time period of the project
(Sohi et al., 2016). Engagement of the stakeholders is a very important aspect considering the
wide range of stakeholders which are there in the FIFA world cup 2022, Corporate Social
Responsibility of each of the stakeholders are needed to be achieved in the first place in this
global project (de Carvalho, Patah & de Souza Bido, 2015). Each stakeholder should be
addressed professional before they start escalating regarding any issue.
2.1 Project Management Body of Knowledge

The different categories of management
which can be applied to this project is the
time management, cost management, quality
management, risk management and
communication management.
The implementation of the discussed
different types of management techniques
will be helping the project manager of this
project to deal with the complexities of the
project such as time, every proposed
requirement of the project should be
finished within the deadline assigned by
the task administrators (Orzen & Bell,
2016). The cost of the technologies,
materials and the human labours should be
within the released budget funded by the
FIFA governing council. The quality of
products and service should be maintained
throughout the project. The risks
associated with the project such as the
availability of the resources and cost of the
technologies have to be pre-evaluated so
that the reliability of the outcome of the
project is maintained (Ansah, Sorooshian

The identification of the critical stakeholders associated with this project is followed by
the engagement of the stakeholders which starts from the year 2018 when the world cup is
organised in Russia. The strategies of the stakeholders have been identified in the month of
October 2018. The following month will be discussing the management levels which are
required for each of the critical stakeholders of this project (Cooper, 2017). October 2019 will
initiate the discussion forums so that the stakeholders can understand their role in the project as
well as what is expected from them at the end of the project. The following month will evaluate
the findings of the previous month and strategies will be created based on the needs and
requirements of the project (Dave et al., 2016). The progress of the work done by the
stakeholders will be evaluated in December 2020, and in case any changes are required then it
will be presented to the authorising committee who will be guiding the stakeholders across the

3 Areas to implement lean project management
The successful implementation of lean project management practise requires few areas
which are needed to be identified will be focussed in this unit of the paper. The following best
practices are very much required to implement lean project management in this project.
o Customer Focus: The consumers are the prime stakeholders of this project and every
aspect of the lean project practices have to be implemented in such a way that it met the
demands and the requirements of the consumers. The data gathering process regarding
the needs and requirements of the consumers should be conducted in a professional way
so that there are no complexities associated with the project in the closing stages of the
project (Kerzner, 2017). Efficient data gathering process will be useful to maintain the
standard of services considering this project. The role of the quality analysists along with
their supervisors are very much important in focussing on the customer needs and
requirements. Undertaking directors should be playing his role in maintaining the quality
of service this project has to offer to its clients.
o Service Value: Stakeholders from every corner of the globe will be coming to Qatar to
attend this prestigious sports event, the standard of services which is going to be
presented to the foreign stakeholders should be high quality products (Browning &
Ramasesh, 2015). The tournament will be conducted over a period of 40 days hence the
needs and requirement of the stakeholders may keep on changing. The changing needs
and requirements of the stakeholders needs to be pre-analysed so that efficiency is
maintained throughout the project. The application of lean think may be very much suited
for this purpose (Tonchia, Tonchia & Mahagaonkar, 2018). The role of the project
managers is very much important for the implementation of the lean thinking into this
project considering the project scheduling also. The feedback platforms are important for

o Agile Thinking: The role of the project managers for each of the department of this
project for maintaining agility in the project deliverables of this project. The project
deliverables will be changed during the course of the project as this project will continue
for 40 days across different cities in Qatar. Flexibility should be maintained in all the
phases of the project so that the vulnerabilities associated with the project can be resolved
(McMahon, 2016). Agility should be maintained by the project managers during the
efficient utilization of all the available resources of this project.
3.1 Area of waste needed to be eliminated
Disposal of the waste is one if the most essential aspect of this project. The project
managers along with their supervisors should be applying the lean project management
principles to minimize the extra resources which are assigned for a specific task of the project.
Resource management skills can be very much useful to manage all the available resources of
this business organization. The inventories used for managing the wastes should be identified by
the project managers in the first place along with that detailed planning of the processing of those
wastes should be properly planned by project managers and their supervisors (Rivera &
Kashiwagi, 2016). Extension of deadlines regarding any aspect of the project should be
minimized as it results in project delay. The role of the task administrator is also very much
significant to eliminate the wastes associated with the project.
